Development of a high-throughput microsatellite typing approach for forensic and population genetic analysis of wild and domestic African Bovini
Conservation management and forensic traceability of African buffalo and cattle rely on the timely provision of unbiased and accurate genetic information. An approach in which 17 cattle microsatellite markers are co-electrophoresed, following amplification in three core multiplex reactions was established for this purpose. Mean allelic richness per locus was 8.24 and 6.47, for buffalo and Bonsmara cattle, respectively, whilst an unbiased match probability of 6.5x×10-17 and 1.03 × 10-16 was obtained for each. These results confirm the usefulness of this rapid, cost-effective typing approach for forensic, paternity and fine-scale genetic analyses of wild and domestic African Bovini tribe member

Bruton's tyrosine kinase inhibition—An emerging therapeutic strategy in immune‐mediated dermatological conditions
Bruton's tyrosine kinase (BTK), a member of the Tec kinase family, is critically involved in a range of immunological pathways. The clinical application of BTK inhibitors for B-cell malignancies has proven successful, and there is strong rationale for the potential benefits of BTK inhibitors in some autoimmune and allergic conditions, including immune-mediated dermatological diseases. However, the established risk-to-benefit profile of "first-generation" BTK inhibitors cannot be extrapolated to these emerging, non-oncological, indications. "Next-generation" BTK inhibitors such as remibrutinib and fenebrutinib entered clinical development for chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU); rilzabrutinib and tirabrutinib are being studied as potential treatments for pemphigus. Promising data from early-phase clinical trials in CSU suggest potential for these agents to achieve strong pathway inhibition, which may translate into measurable clinical benefits, as well as other effects such as the disruption of autoantibody production. BTK inhibitors may help to overcome some of the shortcomings of monoclonal antibody treatments for immune-mediated dermatological conditions such as CSU, pemphigus, and systemic lupus erythematosus. In addition, the use of BTK inhibitors may improve understanding of the pathophysiological roles of mast cells, basophils, and B cells in such conditions.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
ARTIC: Augmented Reality Tangible Interface by Color Evaluation
We present ARTIC, a novel tangible interface that offers 3D user interaction which can be explored in the con· text of Augmented and Mixed Reality. Our system consists in tracking a portable artifact based on color evalua· tion by computer vision, and use it as a 3D input device. Using vision-based techniques, we are able to detect and track the motion of a physical object through color analysis and segmentation, and then perform virtual interactivity to the user, which is extremely important in a Tangible Augmented Reality approach.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Biological treatment of a contaminated gaseous emission containing monochlorobenzene
This study presents the operation of a biotrickling filter when treating a monochlorobenzene (MCB) contaminated gaseous
emission. Treatment dynamics were characterised by exposing the reactor to various MCB Organic Loads (OL). The use of
different growth support materials, namely limestone, sand, ceramic and PVC pall-rings, was investigated. Limestone led to
clogging of the reactor due to the accumulation of surface precipitates, but PVC pall-rings allowed for a uniform biofilm
growth. The biotrickling filter presented maximum removal efficiency (RE, 95%) under OL regimes of 10 g m-3-reactor h-1.
Treatment inhibition was observed when the reactor was exposed to OL of 45 g m-3-reactor h-1 with RE reaching a minimum
value (8%) and elimination capacity of 8 g m3-reactor h-1 The first half of the reactor height was the predominant section for
MCB biodegradation and increasing the mineral medium redrculation rate was beneficial for the overall treatment
Experiência de realidade virtual imersiva no ambiente CaveHollowspace do Lousal
Evidence of vertical transmission of Senecavirus A in naturally infected sows.
Abstract: Senecavirus A (SVA) is a Picornaviridae RNA virus that causes vesicular disease (VD) and transitory neonatal losses in pigs. The major ways SVA is spread are by oral, nasal, and feces. Vertical transmission of SVA was investigated during a VD epidemic in a farrow-to-finish herd in Brazil. Vesicular lesions were observed on sows before farrowing and on piglets within 24 h of birth. Analyses included RT-qPCR, viral isolation, sequencing, and virus-neutralization assays on serum, vesicular fluid, colostrum, and milk. Five out of ten sows were viremic before farrowing, and 46.7% of tested piglets had high viral loads in the first 24 h after birth. Infectious virus was detected in colostrum and milk from one postnatal sow. Despite high levels of neutralizing antibodies (nAbs) in piglet serum, colostrum, and milk, piglets were not protected from viremia and clinical illness. These findings support the vertical and congenital transmission of SVA
