    Internet gaming disorder, aggression and psychological distress in young adults

    Introduction: Internet gaming has become a topic of interest since it has positive but also negative effects. Objectives: To explore the relationship between internet gaming, aggression and psychological distress in young adults. Methods: 229 Portuguese subjects (55.5% females), with a mean age of 21.13 years old (SD = 2.075, range: 18-29) filled in the Internet Gaming Disorder Scale-Short Form, the Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire, and the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scales-21. Results: The total score of internet gaming was of 15.90 (SD=6.32), 79.9% (n=183) of the sample used to play videogames and 24.5% (n=56) spent more than ten hours playing a week. Internet gaming was correlated with physical aggression (r=.23**), anger (r=.31**) and hostility (r=.35**); and with depression (r=.36**), anxiety (r=.28**), and stress (r=.31**). A Mann Whitney U test revealed significant differences in internet gaming disorder levels of males (Md=130.75, n=102) and females (Md=102.35, n=127), U=4871.000 z=-3.232, p=.001, r=4.49. Conclusions: Internet gaming disorder is associated with aggression and psychological distress, and males presented higher internet gaming disorder levels.     Natural-origin polymers as carriers and scaffolds for biomolecules and cell delivery in tissue engineering applications

    The present paper intends to overview a wide range of natural–origin polymers with special focus on proteins and polysaccharides (the systems more inspired on the extracellular matrix) that are being used in research, or might be potentially useful as carriers systems for active biomolecules or as cell carriers with application in the tissue engineering field targeting several biological tissues. The combination of both applications into a single material has proven to be very challenging though. The paper presents also some examples of commercially available natural–origin polymers with applications in research or in clinical use in several applications. As it is recognized, this class of polymers is being widely used due to their similarities with the extracellular matrix, high chemical versatility, typically good biological performance and inherent cellular interaction and, also very significant, the cell or enzyme-controlled degradability. These biocharacteristics classify the natural–origin polymers as one of the most attractive options to be used in the tissue engineering field and drug delivery applications

    Contextual CMA-ES

    Many stochastic search algorithms are designed to optimize a fixed objective function to learn a task, i.e., if the objective function changes slightly, for example, due to a change in the situation or context of the task, relearning is required to adapt to the new context. For instance, if we want to learn a kicking movement for a soccer robot, we have to relearn the movement for different ball locations. Such relearning is undesired as it is highly inefficient and many applications require a fast adaptation to a new context/situation. Therefore, we investigate contextual stochastic search algorithms that can learn multiple, similar tasks simultaneously. Current contextual stochastic search methods are based on policy search algorithms and suffer from premature convergence and the need for parameter tuning. In this paper, we extend the well known CMA-ES algorithm to the contextual setting and illustrate its performance on several contextual tasks. Our new algorithm, called contextual CMAES, leverages from contextual learning while it preserves all the features of standard CMA-ES such as stability, avoidance of premature convergence, step size control and a minimal amount of parameter tuning

The results show a maximum entropy change -Delta S = 30 J/kg K @ 5 T, which is the highest value for the R3M compounds. With a non-hysteretic transition of first order type at T-C = 54 K, it presents a temperature change Delta T-max = 5.7K around 59K with a refrigerating cooling power of 700 J/kg and these results are comparable to values found for giant MCE materials. This compound is stable and able to operate at temperatures between 90K and 40K with a minimum -Delta S = 5 J/kg K. These figures were obtained by sweeping the magnetic field without using sample preparation routines. This methodology is appropriate to evaluate the MCE for the cycling process of a cryogenic magnetic refrigerator.
