(E)-2-[(4-Fluorophenyl)iminomethyl]-5-methoxyphenol
In the molecule of the title compound, C14H12FNO 2, the aromatic rings are oriented at a dihedral angle of 48.17 (1)°. An intra-molecular O - H?N hydrogen bond results in the formation of a six-membered ring. The title molecule is a phenol-imine tautomer, as evidenced by the C - O [1.351 (3) Å], C - N [1.282 (3) Å], and C - C [1.416 (3)-1.445 (3) Å] bond lengths. In the crystal, molecules are linked by inter-molecular C - H?? interactions
Essential oils of Mentha species from Marmara region of Turkey
The genus Mentha L. (Lamiaceae) is represented in the world by 62 taxa including 18 species and 11 hybrids. In Turkey, 15 taxa exist. In the course of the present work, 90 samples belonging to 11 Mentha taxa collected from the Marmara region of Turkey in north western Turkey were hydrodistilled to obtain essential oils, which were then subjected to gas chromatographic (GC) and GC/mass spectrometric (GC/MS) analyses. Fifty-six percent of the samples contained 3-oxo-1,2-epoxy type compounds (piperitenone oxide, cis- and trans-piperitone oxide) as the main constituents in their oils, whereas 25% contained 3-oxo compounds (menthone, isomenthone, pulegone, menthofuran, piperitone, piperitenone and isopulegol). Ten percent of the samples comprised 2-oxo compounds such as carvone, cis-and trans-dihydrocarvone; 2% contained 1,8-cineole and 1% contained trans-sabinene hydrate as the main constituent in the oils; 5% belonged to an unknown category found in the five oils of Mentha longifolia
Simulation and experimental measurement of radon activity using a multichannel silicon-based radiation detector
In this study, high-precision radiation detector (HIPRAD), a new-generation semiconductor microstrip detector, was used for detecting radon (Rn-222) activity. The aim of this study was to detect radon (Rn-222) activity experimentally by measuring the energy of particles in this detector. Count-ADC channel, eta-charge, and dose response values were experimentally obtained using HIPRAD. The radon simulation in the radiation detector was theoretically performed using the Geant4 software package. The obtained radioactive decay, energy generation, energy values, and efficiency values of the simulation were plotted using the root program. The new generation radiation detector proved to have 95% reliability according to the obtained dose response graphs. The experimental and simulation results were found to be compatible with each other and with the radon decays and literature studies
Quality of life, depression, and anxiety in Turkish children with vitiligo and their parents
BACKGROUND: Vitiligo is a chronic skin condition among psychocutaneous diseases that significantly affect psychiatric well-being of patients, social interactions, and overall quality of life. Only a limited number of studies about psychiatric well-being and quality of life in children with vitiligo and their parents are available. AIMS: With this study, we aimed to assess anxiety, depression, and quality of life in children diagnosed with vitiligo and their parents. METHODS AND MATERIAL: Forty-one vitiligo patients aged 9–16 years 30 healthy controls along with their parents were asked to fill out self-report forms that assessed quality of life (Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory–Child Form; PedsQL-C and Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory–Parent Form; PedsQL-P), anxiety (State–Trait Anxiety Inventory–STAI-C for children and Beck Anxiety Inventory–BAI for parents), and depression (Children’s Depression Inventory–CDI and Beck Depression Inventory–BDI for parents). RESULTS: Between groups, significant differences were found in PedsQL-C subscales measuring school functioning, psychosocial health, and overall quality of life. Regarding PedsQL-P scores, there was a significant difference in physical functioning, social functioning, and overall quality of life. No statistical significance was found between groups regarding CDI and STAI-C scores. There was a significant difference in BDI, with higher scores in parents of children with vitiligo. CONCLUSIONS: We believe measuring life quality with standardized instruments and techniques would be important in the assessment of the patient to evaluate the efficacy of treatment, specifically in chronic disorders. Further studies addressing these issues, especially in children, adolescents, and their parents are warranted. © 2018, © 2018 The Author(s).
