Reply to Comment on “The earthquakes of 29 July 2003, 12 February 2007, and 17 December 2009 in the region of Cape Saint Vincent (SW Iberia) and their relation with the 1755 Lisbon earthquake

Indeed, the Lisbon earthquake is a very unusual seismic event and an exception to the rule because most great tsunami-generating earth- quakes are related to well-defined subduction zones. The epicentral region, focal mechanism and the structures involved at the origin of this earthquake are still a matter of debate, with several models having been proposed (e.g. Baptista et al., 2003; Grandin et al., 2007a,b; Gutscher et al., 2006; Ribeiro et al., 2006; Vilanova et al., 2003; Zitellini et al., 2001)

Urban Art and Digital Technologies for Autopoiesis in Citizen Tourism

    Get PDF
This research proposes a “conversation” that connects urban art and digital technologies for autopoiesis of citizen tourism, through observations of artistic interventions that use the city as support and spread on cyberspace. In this study, we will develop a discussion from the gables’ graffiti of Elevado Presidente João Goulart in São Paulo, a place also known as “Minhocão”. The general objective of this study is to reflect on how the combination of urban art and digital technologies can contribute to an autopoietic reinvention of citizen tourism. In this way, the specific objectives are: a) discuss the autopoiesis concept in relation to citizen tourism; b) discuss the relationship between urban art and digital technologies for citizen tourism. The theoretical references concerning urban art are based on Pesavento (2007), Eckert and Rocha (2016), Harvey (2012), and Campos (2021). To approach digital technologies, the principal references are Lévy (2010), Kerckhove (1997, 2003), and Taufer (2020). The autopoiesis concept had as a theoretical substrate the thought of Maturana and Varela (2003), Luhmann (1992, 2009), Guattari (1992), and Baptista (2015), while the tourism approach is established by Gastal (2006), Baptista (2020) and Moesch and Beni (2016). This study is guided by Cartography of Knowledge (Baptista, 2014), a strategic methodology that is divided into four trails, explored simultaneously by researchers: Personal Knowledge, Theoretical Knowledge, Production Plant, and Intuitive Research Dimension. In terms of preliminary results, it was perceived that the association between urban art and digital technologies shows new autopoietic constructions between the subject and the tourist citizen. The art interventions create agencies that shift the tourist citizen of their routine, thus they share their new perceptions of the city through digital technologies.   CITE THIS PAPER: Picinini, Rudinei; Fontana, Sara; Baptista, Maria L. Network Mutual Information and Synchronization under Time Transformations

We investigate the effect of general time transformations on the phase synchronization (PS) phenomenon and the mutual information rate (MIR) between pairs of nodes in dynamical networks. We demonstrate two important results concerning the invariance of both PS and the MIR. Under time transformations PS can neither be introduced nor destroyed and the MIR cannot be raised from zero. On the other hand, for proper time transformations the timing between the cycles of the coupled oscillators can be largely improved. Finally, we discuss the relevance of our findings for communication in dynamical networks.Comment: 15 p

La enseñanza de la combinatoria orientada bajo la teoría de situaciones didácticas

    Get PDF

V4140 Sgr: a short period dwarf nova with a peculiar behavior

We report on time series of CCD photometry of V4140 Sgr between 1991 and 2001. The analysis reveals that the object was in the decline from an outburst in 1992 and again in outburst in 2001. The historical light curve collected by amateur astronomers shows low amplitude (1-2 mag) outbursts 5-10 days long, recurrent every 80-90 days, confirming its dwarf nova nature. We derive an outburst decline time scale of 1.2 days mag1^{-1}. Eclipse mapping techniques were applied to data both in quiescence and in outburst to derive accretion disc surface brightness maps. A distance of d=170±30d = 170 \pm 30 pc is obtained from a method similar to that used to constrain the distance to open clusters. From this distance, disc radial brightness temperature distributions are determined. The temperatures in the quiescent disc vary from 60006 000 K in the inner regions to 30003 000 K near the outer disc and are flatter than the Tr3/4T \propto r^{-{3/4}} law for optically thick steady-state disc. The outburst occurs mainly with a significant increase in brightness of the intermediate and outer disc regions. The disc temperatures remain below the critical effective temperature TcritT_{\rm crit} at all disc radii during outburst. The radial temperature distributions in quiescence and in outburst are significantly different from those of other dwarf novae of similar orbital period. These results cannot be explained within the framework of the disc instability model. We suggest that the small amplitude outbursts of V4140 Sgr are caused by bursts of enhanced mass transfer rate from the secondary star.Comment: 12 pages, 11 figures, accepted by A&
