La prudencia militar: el capitán y el soldado en el 'Examen de ingenios' de Huarte de San Juan

    Get PDF
In the 16th Century, the polemical works of Machiavelli highlighted the ambiguity surrounding the virtue of prudence, especially when this virtue was applied to descriptions of the model warrior. Where did the boundary lie between prudence and deceptive dissimulation, that is to say, lieing? In his 'Examen de ingenios', Juan Huarte de San Juan employs the theory of the humors, along with a series of analogies –such as that based on the game of chess– to explore the ethical problem of prudence on the field of battle, demonstrating through analysis of this problem the laxity and open-mindedness characteristic of the author of this treatise

Dark matter from dark energy-baryonic matter couplings

We present a scenario in which a scalar field dark energy is coupled to the trace of the energy momentum tensor of the baryonic matter fields. In the slow-roll regime, this interaction could give rise to the cosmological features of dark matter. We work out the cosmological background solutions and fit the parameters of the model using the Union 2 supernovae data set. Then, we develop the cosmological perturbations up to linear order, and we find that the perturbed variables have an acceptable behavior, in particular the density contrast of baryonic matter grows similar to that in the Λ\LambdaCDM model for a suitable choice of the strength parameter of the coupling.Comment: 10 pages, 8 figures, in this version small typos are corrected and it matches the published version in Phys. Design of an Adiabatic Calorimeter for Cementitious Mixtures by Multi-Objective Optimization

    Get PDF
This study aims to design an adiabatic calorimeter for cementitious mixtures using NSGA-II and the Pareto optimal solution set. In this multi-objective optimization, the controller effort and heating time are selected as objective functions. Likewise, the volume and the material to be heated were chosen as decision variables. The optimal solution was selected using Nash bargaining methods. After implementing the optimal solution, the Wilcoxon test was applied to statistically validate the developed work. The measurements performed were compared with other research and it was observed an improvement in the measurement of heat of hydration in cementitious mixtures. Also, it was noted a decrease in the error in the temperature measurement

Real-Time Big Data Analytics in Smart Cities from LoRa-Based IoT Networks

The currently burst of the Internet of Things (IoT) tech-nologies implies the emergence of new lines of investigation regarding not only to hardware and protocols but also to new methods of pro-duced data analysis satisfying the IoT environment constraints: a real-time and a big data approach. The Real-time restriction is about the continuous generation of data provided by the endpoints connected to an IoT network; due to the connection and scaling capabilities of an IoT network, the amount of data to process is so high that Big data tech-niques become essential. In this article, we present a system consisting of two main modules. In one hand, the infrastructure, a complete LoRa based network designed, tested and deployment in the Pablo de Olavide University and, on the other side, the analytics, a big data streaming sys-tem that processes the inputs produced by the network to obtain useful, valid and hidden information.

Discovering Spatio-Temporal Patterns in Precision Agriculture Based on Triclustering

    Get PDF
Agriculture has undergone some very important changes over the last few decades. The emergence and evolution of precision agri culture has allowed to move from the uniform site management to the site-specific management, with both economic and environmental advan tages. However, to be implemented effectively, site-specific management requires within-field spatial variability to be well-known and character ized. In this paper, an algorithm that delineates within-field management zones in a maize plantation is introduced. The algorithm, based on tri clustering, mines clusters from temporal remote sensing data. Data from maize crops in Alentejo, Portugal, have been used to assess the suit ability of applying triclustering to discover patterns over time, that may eventually help farmers to improve their harvests.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad TIN2017-88209-C2Fundaçao para a Ciéncia e a Tecnologia (FCT) UIDB/04561/202
