Changes and innovations to the English language teacher education undergraduate program in Turkey have taken place quite often over the last two decades, and related research has focused predominantly on the effectiveness of the program, along with the implemented changes. Yet, evaluation studies on the specific components of the program remained scarce. Within this perspective, this study aims to evaluate the testing and materials courses of an undergraduate English Language Teaching (ELT) program offered at a state university through the voices of pre-service teachers, teacher educators, mentor teachers, and graduates. Using the evaluation model for foreign language teacher education designed by Peacock (2009), and the checklist of parameters by Weir and Roberts (1994) as the framework for analysis, questionnaires, interviews and document analysis for data collection, this case study was designed to uncover the theory/practice link among Materials and Testing courses, and the practicum component. The findings indicate a lack of theory/practice link among the components; therefore, suggestions are offered to strengthen the link related to testing and materials and their applications in the pre-service teaching practicum contexts. © 2021 Karadeniz Technical University. Lemierre's Syndrome: A case report

    Get PDF
Lemierre's syndrome is a syndrome with high mortality, causing internal jugular vein (IJV) thrombophlebitis, septic lung and other organ embolism, which often develops as a complication of oropharyngeal infections. Mortality can be reduced with early diagnosis and appropriate antibiotic treatment. It is a rare syndrome and the case we have presented here differs from the cases with lemierre syndrome previously reported because of the involvement of superior vena cava (SVC) and subclavian vein

Konferans Bildirisi -- Teorik ve Uygulamalı Mekanik Türk Milli Komitesi, 2008Conference Paper -- Theoretical and Applied Mechanical Turkish National Committee, 2008Bu çalışmada örgülü cam-elyaf/epoksi kompozit plakların darbe davranışları incelenmiştir. In this study, impact behavior of woven glass fabric -epoxy composite plates is examined. It is shown that the damage process of individual specimens can be reconstructed from comparing the energy profile diagram, images of damaged specimens and corresponding load-deflection curves. The effect of weave angle on impact resistance and damage mechanisms of laminated plates is also investigated. In addition, variation of the impact characteristics such as maximum force, maximum deflection and maximum contact time versus impact energy is presented. The correlation between those characteristics and damage process is also constructed

Konferans Bildirisi -- Teorik ve Uygulamalı Mekanik Türk Milli Komitesi, 2008Conference Paper -- Theoretical and Applied Mechanical Turkish National Committee, 2008Bu çalışmada, cam lifi-epoksi kompozitlerinde tabaka sıralanışının darbe davranışına etkileri incelenmiştir. In this study, the stacking sequence effects on impact behavior of glass-epoxy composite laminates have been investigated. Three different laminated composites designated as [90/0]₆, [30/0]₆ and [15/0]₆ were manufactured with the same fiber volume fraction and layer numbers. They were then cut into 100mm x 100mm specimens for impact testing. The low velocity impact tests were performed on the specimens by using a DYNATUP GRC 8200 drop weight testing machine. The impact energy was gradually increased for consecutive tests until perforation took place. The instrumented impact test machine gives the time versus load, velocity, deflection and absorbed energy histories. Energy profiling method was used showing the relationship between impact energy and absorbed energy. Results show that the [15/0]₆ composite load-deflection curve has a large plateau around the peak force and highest deflection value, resulting in the highest perforation threshold. However, the [90/0]₆ composite has the highest peak force but lowest deflection value, resulting in the lowest energy absorption capacity for perforation

Background: Spoken word recognition and speech perception tests in quiet are being used as a routine in assessment of the benefit which children and adult cochlear implant users receive from their devices. Cochlear implant users generally demonstrate high level performances in these test materials as they are able to achieve high level speech perception ability in quiet situations. Although these test materials provide valuable information regarding Cochlear Implant (CI) users' performances in optimal listening conditions, they do not give realistic information regarding per-formances in adverse listening conditions, which is the case in the everyday environment.Aims: The aim of this study was to assess the speech intelligibility performance of post lingual CI users in the presence of noise at different signal-to-noise ratio with the Matrix Test developed for Turkish language.Study Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: The thirty post lingual implant user adult subjects, who had been using implants for a minimum of one year, were evaluated with Turkish Matrix test. Subjects' speech intelligibility was measured using the adaptive and non-adaptive Matrix Test in quiet and noisy environments. Results: The results of the study show a correlation between Pure Tone Average (PTA) values of the subjects and Matrix test Speech Reception Thresh-old (SRT) values in the quiet. Hence, it is possible to asses PTA values of CI users using the Matrix Test also. However, no correlations were found be-tween Matrix SRT values in the quiet and Matrix SRT values in noise. Similarly, the correlation be-tween PTA values and intelligibility scores in noise was also not significant. Therefore, it may not be possible to assess the intelligibility performance of CI users using test batteries performed in quiet conditions. Conclusion: The Matrix Test can be used to assess the benefit of CI users from their systems in every-day life, since it is possible to perform intelligibility test with the Matrix test using a material that CI us-ers experience in their everyday life and it is possible to assess their difficulty in speech discrimination in noisy conditions they have to cope with
