Giuseppe Ungaretti and Anglo-Saxon World

Il lavoro di ricerca s'è occupato di indagare il rapporto tra Giuseppe Ungaretti e il mondo anglosassone, rapporto, sinora, relativamente inesplorato da parte della critica letteraria, soffermandosi, particolarmente, sulle traduzioni dall'inglese del poeta italiano. Apre una breve introduzione riguardo le motivazioni principali che hanno portato il poeta italiano ad interessarsi alla cultura anglosassone. Segue il nucleo della tesi, costituito dall'analisi delle versioni ungarettiane dei 40 Sonetti di Shakespeare e di numerosi testi blakiani, raccolti nel volume Visioni; ad essa s'aggiunge quella, più marginale, relativa alle traduzioni da altri due autori anglofoni, Joyce e Pound. L'indagine condotta ha portato alla luce una dipendenza intrinseca tra i poeti inglesi, in special modo Blake e Shakespeare, e Ungaretti, che si struttura in base a consonanze tematiche, ma, anche, a livello testuale e lessicale.This research work is an inquiry about the relationship between Giuseppe Ungaretti and Anglo-Saxon world, a relationship partially unexplored by literary criticism till now. A particular interest is given to Ungaretti's translation of English poems. First of all there's a presentation of the main reasons that led the Italian poet to take an interest in Anglo-Saxon culture. The core of the thesis is represented by the analysis of Ungaretti's versions of 40 Sonnets by Shakespeare and of many poems by Blake, collected in Visioni; then follows a study, even if less important, of the translations from other two Anglophone poets, Joyce and Pound. This enquiry shows an intrinsic dependence between English poets, above all Shakespeare and Blake, and Ungaretti; this dependence is structured through thematic affinities, but it's present, also, at a textual and lexical level

An implementation of sharpe’s capital asset pricing model

This paper implements computationally Sharpe (1964) Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) in order to provide a script that collects data, calculates the parameters of CAPM and tests the statistical significance of those parameters for any asset traded in Brazilian Stock Exchange (B3). The model is estimated using Brazilian’s interbank interest rate (CDI) as the risk free return and B3 stock market index (Ibovespa) return as a proxy for market return. We implemented the CAPM by using Python programming language and tested the program operation for a subset of B3 stock market assets. The results has shown the application was able to attend all functional requirements and, in addition, it is amenable to be developed to provide new features such as parameters of international capital asset pricing model as stated in Frankel (1982).Esse artigo implementa computacionalmente Sharpe (1964) Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) com o objetivo de prover uma aplicação que coleta dados, calcula os parâmetros do CAPM e testa a significância estatística desses parâmetros para qualquer ação negociada na bolsa de valores brasileira (B3). O modelo é estimado utilizando o Certificado de Depósito Interbancário como a taxa livre de risco e o Ibovespa como uma proxy para o retorno de mercado. Nós implementamos o CAPM utilizando a linguagem de programação Python e testamos a operação do programa para um conjunto de ações da B3. Os resultados mostraram que a aplicação foi capaz de atender todos os requerimentos funcionais e, em adição, é passível de desenvolvimento para prover novas funcionalidades, como parâmetros do CAPM internacional como exposto em Frankel (1982)

The role of neurodegeneration-associated proteins in ALS and medulloblastoma

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disease for which there is currently no effective treatment. Therefore, it is essential to investigate the mechanisms leading to motor neuron death to find potential therapeutic targets. In this thesis, we deepen our understanding of 3 proteins involved in the pathogenesis of ALS (Fused in Sarcoma -FUS, Vesicle-associated Membrane Protein B -VAPB, and the ephrin receptor A4-EPHA4) by analyzing their effects when mutated, absent, or when their activity is inhibited. There is increasing evidence that suggests that overlapping mechanisms play a role in neurodegeneration and cell transformation. Therefore, we investigated these ALS -related proteins in neurodegeneration and medulloblastoma development. We describe that protein translation –a well-known mechanism that cells upregulate when transformed- is one of the first and most fundamental pathways decreased in cells with ALS -related mutations. We also show that interferon-gamma (IFN-y) upregulates translation-associated genes, specifically in ALS MNs. Regarding the function of ALS-associated proteins in medulloblastoma, we reveal novel roles for VAPB and EPHA4 in tumor progression. In summary, we provide evidence to support the hypothesis that neurodegeneration and tumorigenesis are the results of the same deregulated signaling pathways, which could lead to a better understanding of these devastating diseases and generate new intervention strategies to improve the lives of patients in the future

Este artigo contém reflexões sobre a importância da descentralização fiscal na implementação da forma democrática de Governo, em particular, ressaltando o potencial da participação popular na racionalização da gestão financeira estatal realizada no âmbito local. Para tanto, o autor analisa criticamente o federalismo fiscal brasileiro, sugerindo mudanças em nossa ordem jurídica capazes de promover, de fato, a autonomia financeira dos entes subnacionais.This article brings reflections about the importance of tax decentralization in the enforcement of democratic government form, in particular, highlighting the potential of popular participation in the rationalization of tax management in local area. The author critically analyses the Brazilian Tax Federalism, by the suggestion of legal changes to promote definitively the tax autonomy of subnational entities

A produção de cervejas especiais no Distrito Federal e seu potencial uso turístico

Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (graduação)—Universidade de Brasília, Centro de Excelência em Turismo, 2018.A cerveja atualmente está entre as bebidas mais consumidas do mundo, fazendo parte do turismo gastronômico, com crescente mercado e oferta de eventos e festivais específicos para os apreciadores da bebida.Nesse contexto, o presente trabalho tem como objetivo inventariar a produção de cervejas especiais no Distrito Federal para fins de visitação turística, com a finalidade de agregar atratividade à oferta turística da região.Trata-se de um estudo sobre as cervejarias locais, com coleta de dados realizada através de revisão bibliográfica e visitas de campo, com aplicação de questionário e entrevista. Os resultados apontam que o cenário da produção de cervejas especiais no que tange a estruturas e serviços para a recepção de visitantes é ainda embrionário, visto que a maioria começou as atividades recentemente, há cerca de dois anos ou menos, e ainda tem como prioridade a consolidação do seu negócio. Um número pequeno de empreendimentos possui espaço para receber visitantes e ainda ficam abertos para tal fim em poucos dias da semana. Portanto, o uso turístico dessas cervejarias inda carece de muito trabalho, desde o planejamento, estruturação e promoção inerentes à oferta turística de qualidade que o mercado atualmente requer.Beer is currently among the most consumed beverages in the world, being part of the gastronomic tourism, with growing market and offer of events and festivals specific for the lovers of the drink. The goal of the following paper is to inventory the Distrito Federal Craft Beer production and their tourist potential use. It is a case study of local breweries, with data collect carried out through bibliographic review, field visit, questionnaire and interviews. The study pointed out that the current scenario of breweries is very embryonic yet. Some factors contribute negatively to open new ventures of this type, like the high investments and the bureaucratic delay. Most of the breweries started their activities less than two years ago and nowadays has higher priority to consolidate their business first. A small number of breweries have their own space to receive visitors and remain open a few days a week. Therefore, the potential tourist use of the breweries is not yet a reality in the capital of Brazil

RELAÇÕES BILATERAIS ENTRE BRASIL E ÁFRICA DO SUL: DO PERÍODO COLONIAL À POLÍTICA AFRICANA DO PRESIDENTE LULA

O propósito da pesquisa que originou esse artigo é estudar as relações bilaterais entre o Brasil e a África do Sul em um contexto de renovação e recrudescimento das relações brasileiras com o continente africano. No intuito de melhor entender a dinâmica das relações entre os dois países, destaca-se importância a dois momentos históricos que contribuíram para essa aproximação recente: o fim do apartheid na África do Sul e a política externa africana do Governo Lula no Brasil. Após as considerações históricas e diplomáticas, a cooperação entre os dois países foi analisada nos seus mais diferentes níveis e se evidenciou a necessidade de transpor as barreiras da cooperação econômico-comercial para uma cooperação mais horizontal que inclua também aspectos políticos, sociais, culturais, ambientais e técnicos

Stability of circulating miRNA in saliva: The influence of sample associated pre-analytical variables

Background and aims: Increasing evidence supports the practicability of salivary cell-free (cf) miRNA as liquid biopsy markers in cancers. Its successful translation in the clinical setting requires reproducible approaches for saliva manipulation, in order to control for pre-analytical variables influencing miRNA stability. This study aims to define the optimal conditions to maintain the integrity of saliva during collection, transport and processing with respect to cf-miRNA quantification. Materials and methods: Saliva was collected from 20 healthy subjects and 8 oral cancer patients. Two sampling methods were tested and different storage temperatures and times were evaluated. Salivary expression level of target miRNAs was quantified by qPCR. Comparison between group mean values at specific conditions were performed using paired t-tests. Agreement between measurements was evaluated using a Bland-Altman plot. Results: Different collection methods revealed comparable levels of salivary miR-484 and miR-106b-5p in both subject cohorts. MiRNAs were stable for up to 48 h at 4 °C in saliva supernatant, showing significant alteration after 96 h. Mid-term storage of supernatant at -20 °C decreased miRNA stability significantly compared to standard -80 °C. Conclusions: Cf-miRNA in saliva were slightly altered by collection methods and storage conditions, both in healthy and in pathological contexts, and remained stable for a period of time compatible with main clinical routine needs
