    0.5V 3rd-order Tunable gm-C Filter

    This paper proposes a 3rd-order gm-C filter that operates with the extremely low voltage supply of 0.5V. The employed transconductor is capable for operating in an extremely low voltage power supply environment. A benefit offered by the employed transconductor is that the filter’s cut-off frequency can be tuned, through a dc control current, for relatively large ranges. The filter structure was designed using normal threshold transistors of a triple-well 0.13μm CMOS process and is operated under a 0.5V supply voltage; its behavior has been evaluated through simulation results by utilizing the Analog Design Environment of the Cadence software

    This paper presents a comprehensive study of various possible solutions for power quality improvement in common applications and supply system. This includes improved power quality converters (IPQC), multi-pulse converters, active compensation, passive compensation and their hybrid configurations. Various configurations and topologies of custom power devices such as DSTATCOM (Distribution Static Compensator), DVR (Dynamic Voltage Restorer) and UPQC (Unified Power Quality Compensator) are also described in detail. Main applications of these devices are for reactive power compensation, harmonic elimination, voltage sag/swell mitigation, voltage regulation, load balancing, neutral current reduction etc. Many such cases of power quality problems have been taken up and suitable solutions have been identified for those cases. As an example, a model of DSTATCOM is developed and its performance is presented for a distribution system feeding nonlinear loads

    We analytically compute a localization criterion in double scattering approximation for a set of dielectric spheres or perfectly conducting disks uniformly distributed in a spatial volume which can be either spherical or layered.     The purpose of this study was to determine the role of emotional response in the consumer environment to mediate the effect of store impulse buying is done at the buyer at Carrefour Denpasar. This study uses qualitative research is by using observation and questionnaires to 140 buyers in Carrefour Denpasar. The data analysis technique used is structural equation modeling (SEM). Obtained findings that the store environment variable positive and significant impact on impulse buying and store environment variable positive and significant effect on positive emotions. Furthermore, it was found that the emotional response variables and significant positive effect on impulse buying. Finally, the emotional response in mediating store significant effect on the environment of impulse buying

The proof uses certain determinantal point processes given by the extended Krawtchouk kernel.     Network-theoretic modeling of fluid-structure interactions

    The coupling interactions between deformable structures and unsteady fluid flows occur across a wide range of spatial and temporal scales in many engineering applications. These fluid-structure interactions (FSI) pose significant challenges in accurately predicting flow physics. In the present work, two multi-layer network approaches are proposed that characterize the interactions between the fluid and structural layers for an incompressible laminar flow over a two-dimensional compliant flat plate at a 35-degrees angle of attack. In the first approach, the network nodes are formed by wake vortices and bound vortexlets, and the edges of the network are defined by the induced velocity between these elements. In the second approach, coherent structures (fluid modes), contributing to the kinetic energy of the flow and structural modes, contributing to the kinetic energy of the compliant structure constitute the network nodes. The energy transfers between the modes are extracted using a perturbation approach. Furthermore, the network structure of the FSI system is simplified using the community detection algorithm in the vortical approach and by selecting dominant modes in the modal approach. Network measures are used to reveal the temporal behavior of the individual nodes within the simplified FSI system. Predictive models are then built using both data-driven and physics-based methods. Overall, this work sets the foundation for network-theoretic reduced-order modeling of fluid-structure interactions, generalizable to other multi-physics systems.Comment: 20 pages, 10 figure

    Locating Depots for Capacitated Vehicle Routing

    We study a location-routing problem in the context of capacitated vehicle routing. The input is a set of demand locations in a metric space and a fleet of k vehicles each of capacity Q. The objective is to locate k depots, one for each vehicle, and compute routes for the vehicles so that all demands are satisfied and the total cost is minimized. Our main result is a constant-factor approximation algorithm for this problem. To achieve this result, we reduce to the k-median-forest problem, which generalizes both k-median and minimum spanning tree, and which might be of independent interest. We give a (3+c)-approximation algorithm for k-median-forest, which leads to a (12+c)-approximation algorithm for the above location-routing problem, for any constant c>0. The algorithm for k-median-forest is just t-swap local search, and we prove that it has locality gap 3+2/t; this generalizes the corresponding result known for k-median. Finally we consider the "non-uniform" k-median-forest problem which has different cost functions for the MST and k-median parts. We show that the locality gap for this problem is unbounded even under multi-swaps, which contrasts with the uniform case. Nevertheless, we obtain a constant-factor approximation algorithm, using an LP based approach.Comment: 12 pages, 1 figur

    A STUDY ON PATTERN OF PRESCRIBING MEDICATIONS USED IN SECONDARY PREVENTION OF STROKE

    ABSTRACTObjectives: The main objectives of this study were to estimate the demographic details of patients with the first incidence of stroke and to study thevarious risk factors for ischemic stroke.Methods: It was a retrospective, observational study carried out for 1 year at the Department of Stroke Medicine of a tertiary care teaching hospitalin Kerala, India. A total of 636 patients were admitted under stroke medicine during the period from July 1, 2014, to July 1, 2015, and who satisfiedthe inclusion and exclusion criteria were included in the study. A standardized data collection form was prepared and necessary data were collectedfrom patient's medical records.Results: The maximum number of patients was in the age group of 60-69 years. 65.1% patients were residing in the rural area. 60.7% patients weremale. Most of them had hypertension as common comorbidity (21.35%) and the highest number of patients had diabetes mellitus and hypertension(21.7%). Majority of the patients were prescribed with antiplatelets (94.91%), followed by statins (93.8%).Conclusion: A strict control on the comorbid conditions and sticking on to the medications can prevent the occurrence of future stroke.Keywords: Stroke, Secondary prevention, Drugs, Prescribing pattern

These technologies were incorporated into several advanced viscoplastic models and were applied to a wide spectrum of structural engineering problems involving extremes of thermal/mechanical loading. Results of the research performed under the grant were presented at a number of scientific meetings and conferences and have resulted in numerous publications
