Effect of Working Discipline Toward Performance: An Empirical Investigation

    Get PDF
This research was conducted at the FIF Group Company in Riau Indonesia. The aim of this study is to determine the influence of work discipline on employee performance. The research sampled the views of every employeeat the company.Data analysis was undertaken via a simple linear regression test and coefficient of determination test. The research results showed that t_count (7.782) is bigger than t_value (2.015), and we concluded that Ha accepted and H0 is rejected, so there is a significant relationship between work discipline with performance. While the R2 test of 57.9%, while 42.1% influenced by other factors are not examined in this study. Keywords: Discipline Work, Employee Performance, Indonesi

The Usage of Banana Peels and Soybean Hull for the Treatment of Lake Water: Turbidity and Total Suspended Solids

    Get PDF
Lake water get contaminate due to the growth of population and modernization which can causing problems. Therefore, it is crucial for wastewater to go through wastewater treatment to improves the quality of water. One of the processes involved is coagulation process. Chemical coagulants may have an adverse effect on the consumer and the environment. The use of natural coagulants can be a secure replacement for chemical coagulants. Hence, this study was conducted to reduce the usage of chemicals in the coagulation process by using natural coagulant of banana peels and soybean hulls. The main aim of this study is to investigate the effect of natural coagulant for wastewater treatment of lake water. Banana peels and soybean hulls were the main materials in making a plant-based coagulant by drying, grinding, and sieving. Jar test was carried out to investigate the effectiveness of natural coagulant by determining their turbidity and total suspended solids. It was found that banana peels perform effectively at a dosage of 400mg/L with turbidity removal achieved is almost 50%. On the other hand, soybean hulls work effectively at a dosage of 600mg/L with turbidity removal achieved is 54%.  Based on the result, it is shown that using banana peels as a natural coagulant has effectively reduced the turbidity and total suspended solids of lake water with the optimum number of dosages of 600mg/L

Garcinia atroviridis pastilles with anti-obesity potential

    Get PDF
Garcinia atroviridis has been used as food seasoning since ancient times. Garcinia atroviridis was reported to contain anti-inflammatories, anti-fungal, antioxidant and anti-obesity properties. Nowadays, modern society has become more health conscious and was especially against obesity. Thus, it was important to search for a new solution to fight obesity using the more natural and toxin-free approaches

    Paper making from bagasse

    Get PDF
Though the revolution of technology has reduced paper production everywhere around the world, the amount of paper consumed each day is still tremendously large. The paper industry remains a growth industry globally, with volumes forecast to increase 50% by 2035 with most of the growth occurring in the packaging and tissues sector. The main material used in paper production is wood fibre. In order to satisfy the large demand for paper, thousands of trees must be cut down every year. Deforestation caused by worldwide consumption of wood-based paper has been a huge environmental issue. As the awareness of sustainability continues to rise, the demand for sustainable paper increases. The investigation of looking for alternatives has been a critical issue. The new alternative on the market is sugarcane fibre paper [1]

Photocatalytic degradation of industrial dye wastewater using zinc oxide polyvinylpyrrolidone nanoparticles

    Get PDF
Due to the lack of studies regarding the potential of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) as capping agent in precipitation of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles, this research focused on the performance of ZnO nanoparticles with presence of PVP loading on photocatalytic degradation treatment for industrial dye wastewater. Three different samples of ZnO-PVP were successfully synthesized via precipitation method. The degradation rate of dye approached 90.61% under pH7 in the presence of ZnO-PVP (0.025g/L of PVP). The chemical bonds in ZnO-PVP was analysed using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR)

Urban coral reefs: Degradation and resilience of hard coral assemblages in coastal cities of East and Southeast Asia

© 2018 The Author(s) Given predicted increases in urbanization in tropical and subtropical regions, understanding the processes shaping urban coral reefs may be essential for anticipating future conservation challenges. We used a case study approach to identify unifying patterns of urban coral reefs and clarify the effects of urbanization on hard coral assemblages. Data were compiled from 11 cities throughout East and Southeast Asia, with particular focus on Singapore, Jakarta, Hong Kong, and Naha (Okinawa). Our review highlights several key characteristics of urban coral reefs, including “reef compression” (a decline in bathymetric range with increasing turbidity and decreasing water clarity over time and relative to shore), dominance by domed coral growth forms and low reef complexity, variable city-specific inshore-offshore gradients, early declines in coral cover with recent fluctuating periods of acute impacts and rapid recovery, and colonization of urban infrastructure by hard corals. We present hypotheses for urban reef community dynamics and discuss potential of ecological engineering for corals in urban areas
