Modeling and experimental verification of an ultra-wide bandgap in 3D phononic crystal
This paper reports a comprehensive modeling and experimental characterization of a three-dimensional phononic crystal composed of a single material, endowed with an ultra-wide complete bandgap. The phononic band structure shows a gap-mid gap ratio of 132% that is by far the greatest full 3D bandgap in literature for any kind of phononic crystals. A prototype of the finite crystal structure has been manufactured in polyamide by means of additive manufacturing technology and tested to assess the transmission spectrum of the crystal. The transmission spectrum has been numerically calculated taking into account a frequency-dependent elastic modulus and a Rayleigh model for damping. The measured and numerical transmission spectra are in good agreement and present up to 75 dB of attenuation for a three-layer crystal

The Role of Theory of the Mind and Deontic Reasoning in the Evolution of Deception
Modern Darwinist perspective enables to deal with the study of several human phenomena, one of which is deception, that we define as a behaviour unfolded with the deliberate intention of producing or sustaining a state of ignorance or false belief in another person. volutionary Psychology, an emerging area inside Cognitive Science, represents a promising conceptual approach to the study of deception. According to it, knowledge on human mind can be improved by understanding the processes which, during evolution, shaped its rchitecture. This work traces back to the Evolutionary Psychology arguments (for a review see Cosmides & Tooby, 1987; Barkow, Cosmides & Tooby, 1992; Buss, 1995; 1999) and develops the hypothesis that deception is a behaviour underpinned by two psychological echanisms that evolved in response to problems posed by group living: the theory of mind and deontic reasoning

Defining user perception of distributed multimedia quality
This article presents the results of a study that explored the human side of the multimedia experience. We propose a model that assesses quality variation from three distinct levels: the network, the media and the content levels; and from two views: the technical and the user perspective. By facilitating parameter variation at each of the quality levels and from each of the perspectives, we were able to examine their impact on user quality perception. Results show that a significant reduction in frame rate does not proportionally reduce the user's understanding of the presentation independent of technical parameters, that multimedia content type significantly impacts user information assimilation, user level of enjoyment, and user perception of quality, and that the device display type impacts user information assimilation and user perception of quality. Finally, to ensure the transfer of information, low-level abstraction (network-level) parameters, such as delay and jitter, should be adapted; to maintain the user's level of enjoyment, high-level abstraction quality parameters (content-level), such as the appropriate use of display screens, should be adapted
Therapeutic Alliance and Outcome of Psychotherapy: Historical Excursus, Measurements, and Prospects for Research
This paper proposes a historical excursus of studies that have investigated the therapeutic alliance and the relationship between this dimension and outcome in psychotherapy. A summary of how the concept of alliance has evolved over time and the more popular alliance measures used in literature to assess the level of alliance are presented. The proposal of a therapeutic alliance characterized by a variable pattern over the course of treatment is also examined. The emerging picture suggests that the quality of the client–therapist alliance is a reliable predictor of positive clinical outcome independent of the variety of psychotherapy approaches and outcome measures. In our opinion, with regard to the relationship between the therapeutic alliance and outcome of psychotherapy, future research should pay special attention to the comparison between patients’ and therapists’ assessments of the therapeutic alliance. This topic, along with a detailed examination of the relationship between the psychological disorder being treated and the therapeutic alliance, will be the subject of future research projects

Search for 14.4 keV solar axions from M1 transition of Fe-57 with CUORE crystals
We report the results of a search for axions from the 14.4 keV M1 transition
from Fe-57 in the core of the sun using the axio-electric effect in TeO2
bolometers. The detectors are 5x5x5 cm3 crystals operated at about 10 mK in a
facility used to test bolometers for the CUORE experiment at the Laboratori
Nazionali del Gran Sasso in Italy. An analysis of 43.65 kg d of data was made
using a newly developed low energy trigger which was optimized to reduce the
detectors energy threshold. An upper limit of 0.63 c kg-1 d-1 was established
at 95% C.L.. From this value, a lower bound at 95% C.L. was placed on the
Peccei-Quinn energy scale of fa >= 0.76 10**6 GeV for a value of S=0.55 for the
flavor-singlet axial vector matrix element. Bounds are given for the interval
0.15 < S < 0.55.Comment: 14 pages, 6 figures, submitted to JCA
