Exact correspondence between Renyi entropy flows and physical flows
We present a universal relation between the flow of a Renyi entropy and the
full counting statistics of energy transfers. We prove the exact relation for a
flow to a system in thermal equilibrium that is weakly coupled to an arbitrary
time-dependent and non-equilibrium system. The exact correspondence, given by
this relation, provides a simple protocol to quantify the flows of Shannon and
Renyi entropies from the measurements of energy transfer statistics.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figure
Development of a versatile laser light scattering instrument
NASA Lewis Research Center is providing and coordinating the technology for placing a compact Laser Light Scattering (LLS) instrument in a microgravity environment. This will be accomplished by defining and assessing user requirements for microgravity experiments, coordinating needed technological developments, and filling technical gaps. This effort is striving to brassboard and evaluate a miniature multi-angle LLS instrument. The progress of the program is reported
Development of a versatile laser light scattering instrument
A versatile laser light scattering (LLS) instrument is developed for use in microgravity to measure microscopic particles of 30 A to above 3 microns. Since it is an optical technique, LLS does not affect the sample being studied. A LLS instrument built from modules allows several configurations, each optimized for a particular experiment. The multiangle LLS instrument can be mounted in the rack in the Space Shuttle and on Space Station Freedom. It is possible that a Space Shuttle glove-box and a lap-top computer containing a correlator card can be used to perform a number of experiments and to demonstrate the technology needed for more elaborate investigations. This offers simple means of flying a great number of experiments without the additional requirements of full-scale flight hardware experiments
Record catch of rock perch, Epinephelus fasciatus by bottom trawling off Ratnagiri
A productive fishing ground for rock perch (Epinephelus fasciatus) was located off Ratnagiri between 17 degree 00' to 17 degree 10' N latitude and 72 degree 20' to 72 degree 30' E longitude, around a depth of 96m during November, 1983. An average catch of 2 ton/hr. was recorded. Length frequency studies of E. fasciatus indicate the probability of a nursery ground consisting of three brood stocks. Hydrographic studies of the ground revealed that the bottom water was oxygen deficient below a strong thermocline extending from 15-75 m depth with the recorded bottom temperature amounting to 20.5 degree C
Synthesis and characterization of selected fused isoxazole and pyrazole derivatives and their antimicrobial activity
New potent antibacterials, fused isoxazole and pyrazole derivatives, were synthesized using 5,5-dimethylcyclohexane-1,3-dione (1) and 3-[(4-chlorobenzylidene)amino]-2-thioxoimidazolidin-4-one (2) as synthons. Aromatic aldehydes on condensation with 1 and 2 gave 2-arylidene-5,5-dimethylcyclohexane-1,3-dione (3) and 5-arylidene-3-[(4-chlorobenzylidene)amino]-2-thioxoimidazolidin-4-one (4), respectively. Compounds 3 and 4 were forced to undergo heterocyclization reaction with nucleophilic reagents to give the title compounds. The newly synthesized heterocyles (5–8) were characterized based on their chemical properties and spectroscopic data, and were found to inhibit Staphylococcus aureus and Corynebacterium diphtheriae
