    Fatty Acids in Fish

    The human body cannot synthesize certain fatty acids: these essential fatty acids must be consumed in the diet. Fish and other aquatic foods are known to be the main sources of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA); therefore, humans obtain most of their eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) by consuming fish, aquatic invertebrates, and algae. The increasing demand for fish and the stabilization of marine fish and freshwater landings have contributed to a widening gap between demand and supply for fish and fish products. This leads to a necessity to improve aquaculture production. Fish are the main contributors of n‐3 PUFA in the human diet, although there are some interspecific and intraspecific differences in fatty acid profiles. The fatty acid composition of fish differs depending on a variety of factors, including species, diet, as well as environmental factors such as salinity, temperature, season, geographical location, and whether the fish are farmed or wild.     Trimming of Finite Subsets of the Manhattan Plane

    V. Turaev defined recently an operation of "Trimming" for pseudo-metric spaces and analysed the tight span of (pseudo-)metric spaces via this process. In this work we investigate the trimming of finite subspaces of the Manhattan plane. We show that this operation amounts for them to taking the metric center set and we give an algorithm to construct the tight spans via trimming.Comment: 24 pages, 14 figure

    Electrospun poly(glycidylmethacrylate) (PGMA) and poly(acrylonitrile-co-glycidyl methacrylate) (P(AN-GMA)) nanofibers were coated with monodisperse silver nanoparticles by using an electroless plating technique at ambient conditions. Oxirane groups on the surface of nanofibers were replaced with reducing agent, hydrazine. Surface modified nanofibers were allowed to react with ammonia solution of AgNO3. A redox reaction takes place and metallic silver nucleate on fibers surface. Parameters affecting the particle size were determined

    Amaç: Çalışmamızda basılmış ilk Türkçe (Osmanlıca) anatomi kitabı olan Miratü'l Ebdan fi Teşrih-I Azaü'l İnsan'da açıklanan üriner sistem ile modern anatomi kitaplarında açıklanan üriner sistemi inceledik. Amacımız çalışmamızın sonuçları ile günümüz anatomistlerine Türk tıp ve anatomi tarihinin gelişimi üzerine bir kaynak sağlamaktır. Çalışma Planı: Şanizade'nin çalışmasındaki üriner sisteme ilişkin açıklamalar günümüz Türkçesine tercüme edildi. Miratü'l Ebdan fi Teşrih-I Azaü'l İnsan'da yer alan üriner sisteme ilişkin bilgiler, aynı konuda günümüz modern anatomi kaynak kitaplarında yer alan bilgiler ile mukayese edildi. Bulgular: Miratü'l Ebdan fi Teşrih-I Azaü'l İnsan üriner sistem üzerine böbrek, kapsül ve mesane olmak üzere çeşitli bölümler içermektedir. Üretere ilişkin bilgiler böbrek bölümünde verilmiştir. İlk olarak organların yerleri, daha sonra organların görünümü ve iç yapıları açıklanmıştır. Böbreğin iç yapısının ve damar sisteminin detaylı olarak açıklanmış olması tarafımızdan dikkat çekici bulunmuştur. Sonuç: Şanizade orjinal yabancı kaynağı tercüme ederken Osmanlı Türkçesi terimlerini kullanmıştır. Zamanının bilgisini en iyi şekilde ifade etmiştir. Üriner sistem üzerine pek çok noktada modern bilgi ile uyumludur.Objectives: In our study, we examined the urinary system explained in the first printed Turkish anatomy book “Miratü'l Ebdan fi Teşrih-i Azaü'l İnsan”, and the urinary system existing in the contemporary anatomy reference books. With the results of our study, we aimed to provide a reference on the development of Turkish medicine and anatomic history for today's anatomists. Study Design: Urinary system explanations of Şanizade's work were translated into today's Turkish. The information on urinary system included in Miratü'l Ebdan fi Teşrih-i Azaü'l İnsan was compared with the information on the same topic existing in today's modern anatomy reference books. Results: Miratü'l Ebdan fi Teşrih-i Azaü'l İnsan consists of several parts on urinary system, which are kidney, capsulitis and vesica urinaria. The information about ureter is given under the part on kidney. Initially, positions of the organs, and then the physiognomy and internal structures are covered. Notably, we determined that the internal structure of kidney and the vein system is expressed in detail. Conclusion: Şanizade used Ottoman Turkish terminology when he translated the original foreign source. He expressed the knowledge of his time in the best way. There are numerous points that correspond to contemporary knowledge on urinary system

    The rapid transition of all areas of our lives to the digital environment has kept people away from their intertwined social lives and made them dependent on the isolated cyber environment. This dependency has led to increased cyber threats and, subsequently, cyber-attacks nationally or internationally. Due to the high cost of cybersecurity systems and the expert nature of these systems\u27 management, the cybersecurity component has been mostly ignored, especially in small and medium-sized organizations. In this context, a holistic cybersecurity architecture is designed in which fully open source and free software and hardware-based Raspberry Pi devices with low-cost embedded operating systems are used as a honeypot. In addition, the architectural structure has an integrated, flexible, and easily configurable end-to-end security approach. It is suitable for different platforms by creating end-user screens with personalized software for network security guards and system administrators

    Bu yazı; Türkiye’nin önemli restorasyon uzmanlarından Orhan Cezmi Tuncer’i (d. 1931-…) anlamak, tecrübelerinden haberdar olmak ve gerek kamuda ve özel sektörde çalıştığı yıllarda ve gerekse akademik hayatı süresince, yaklaşık atmış yıllık meslek hayatı boyunca ürettiği bilgilerin ortaya çıkarılmasına vesile olmak amacıyla kaleme alınmıştır. Mimarlık mesleğine ilk adım attığı İstanbul Devlet Güzel Sanatlar Akademisindeki öğrencilik döneminden itibaren sürekli öğrenme ve öğretme gayreti içinde olan Orhan Cezmi Tuncer, Türkiye’nin korumacılık serüveninde, uygulamacı, araştırmacı ve eğitimci olarak etkili olmuş önemli mimarlardan biridir. Günümüze kadar çok sayıda kitap, makale, konferans bildirisi yayımlamış, özellikle Vakıflar Genel Müdürlüğünde çalıştığı yıllarda iki yüzden fazla tek yapı ölçeğinde vakıf kültür varlığının projelendirilmesi ve restorasyonu aşamalarından görev almıştır. Orhan Cezmi Tuncer, always full of the endeavor of learning and teaching even starting from the period he began to his architectural education at Istanbul State Fine Arts Academy, is one of the important architects in Turkey’s conservation adventure, being effective as practicer, researcher, and educator. Until today, he published many books, journal papers and conference papers, and was assigned at project preparation and implementation work of more than two hundred waqf cultural heritage especially during his work experience at Directorate General of Foundations.     Cephalometric Evaluation of The Patients with Osas: Uvulo-Glossophareyngeal And Cervico-Craniofacial Skeletally Morphology

    Aim:In the current study, it was aimed to determine the importance of the cephalometrical radiographic evaluation for the localization of posterior airway obstruction in patients with obstuctive sleep apne syndrome (OSAS).Subjects and Methods:Cephalometric radiographs were obtained from 61 patients diagnosed with OSAS (27 females, 34 males) to assess the uvulo-glossofarengeal and cervico-craniofacial skeletal morphology. These measurements were compared with the cranial and pharyngeal values of skeletally Class 180 healthy individuals' (36 females, 44 males) standard lateral cephalographs.Results:The length of the soft palate (P-Pm) in OSAS patients was found significantly greater than the control group. The thickness of the soft palate in midsagittal plane (x-y) in OSAS patients was found significantly greater than the control group. In OSAS patients, hyoid bone localized significantly to inferior than the control group; the tongue height (TH-Z) was significantly greater in patients with OSAS than the control group. At all levels of pharyngeal airway in the anteroposterior direction (af1-pf1, af2-pf2, af3-pf3, af4-pf4), significant narrowing were found in the OSAS subjects. One of the most significant finding was an extension of the head position in accordance with increased cranioservical angle in OSAS patients.Conclusion:OSAS patients' posterior airway distance narrowed at all levels from nasopharynx to hypopharynx. The craniofacial and pharyngeal anatomy of OSAS patients can be examined in detail by lateral cephalometry and cephalometric examination is an important contribution of OSAS diagnosis

    Yerel Diatomit Topraklarının Kokusuz Toz Sarımsak İle Karışımının Kırma Biti, Tribolium confusum du Val. (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae)’ne Karşı Etkinliği

    Bu çalışmada iki yerel diatomit toprağı preparatının (Detech® ve Demite®) tek başına ve bunların kokusuz sarımsak tozuyla belli oranlardaki karışımlarının Kırma Biti, Tribolium confusum du Val. Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae)’ne karşı etkinliklerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaçla buğday üzerinde 25±1 ?C sıcaklık ve % 65±5 nispi nem ortamında tek başına iki yerel diatomit topraklarının ve bunların kokusuz sarımsak tozuyla karışımlarının 600, 900 ve 1500 ppm (mg DE/kg ürün) konsantrasyonlarda 7 ve 14 gün süreyle biyolojik testler yürütülmüştür. Mevcut çalışmada elde edilen sonuçlara göre buğday üzerinde tek başına Demite® ve Detech® diatomit toprağı uygulamaları ile Demite® ve Detech® diatomit toprağı ile kokusuz sarımsak karışımlarının (E3, E4, E5 ve E6) test edilen böceklere karşı etkinlikleri uygulama konsantrasyonuna ve süresine göre önemli farklılıklar gösterdiği görülmüştür. Düşük konsantrasyonda (600 ppm) genel olarak Demite® ve Detech® diatomit toprakların kokusuz sarımsak karışımlarının (E5 ve E6) T. confusum erginlerine karşı etkinliklerinin tek başına Demite® diatomit toprağı uygulamasına göre daha yüksek olduğu bulunmuştur. Bu çalışmada düşük konsantrasyonda Demite® ve Detech® diatomit toprağı uygulamasına kokusuz sarımsak eklemesinin T. confusum erginlerine karşı etkinliğin artmasına neden olduğu, dolayısıyla bu iki ticari yerel diatomit toprağı ile kokusuz sarımsak karışımlarının düşük konsantrasyonlarda (<900 ppm) T. confusm’un kontrolünde kullanılabileceği sonucuna varılmıştır

    Sleep Quality and Self-compassion as Predictors of Aggression in High School Students

    In the current study, the relationships between Aggression, Self-compassion and Sleep Quality of high school students have been examined. 529 high school students (66% females and 34% males) participated in the study. Data were collected from participants through using a Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Aggression Questionnaire (AQ), Self-Compassion Scale (SCS), and Descriptive Questionnaire. The predictors of aggressiveness of the variables determined by simple correlation were investigated by multiple linear regression. According to the results, there was a positive and significant relationship between aggression levels and all sub-dimensions of self-compassion and sleep quality. In addition, it was observed that the levels of aggressiveness were significantly predicted by the sub-dimensions of self-compassion and sleep quality, and that the first three most effective predictive variables were over-identification, self-judgment and sleep quality
