Fluctuations about the Fubini-Lipatov instanton for false vacuum decay in classically scale invariant models
For a scalar theory whose classical scale invariance is broken by quantum effects, we compute self-consistent bounce solutions and Green's functions. Deriving analytic expressions, we find that the latter are similar to the Green's functions in the archetypal thin-wall model for tunneling between quasi-degenerate vacua. The eigenmodes and eigenspectra are, however, very different. Large infrared effects from the modes of low angular momentum j = 0 and j = 1, which include the approximate dilatational modes for j = 0, are dealt with by a resummation of one loop effects. For a parametric example, this resummation is carried out numerically
Glaciers of the Koryak Highlands: assessment of the state using satellite images and field studies
The Koryak Highlands are a poorly explored area in terms of glaciation and its connection to climate. The purpose of this work is, using Sentinel-2 images (2019), to assess the state of glaciers at present against the background of climatic trends. Spatial patterns of trends of mean summer and annual temperatures, total precipitation and precipitation for the cold period from 1966 to 2019 were compiled: the temperature trends increase towards the Kamchatka Peninsula, and the mean summer temperature trends increase from 2 to 3°C. Precipitation trends increase from the continent to the coastal zone, with cold season trends changing from 0 to minus 50 mm. As a result, 212 glaciers and 279 rock glaciers were discovered in the Highlands, whereas 112 objects that had previously been recognised were not identified: either there is no glacier, or its area is less than 0.001 km2. The reduction in glacier areas compared to the USSR Glacier Inventory (1960s) varies widely by river basin, from 35 to 74%. The mean present glacier area varies from basin to basin from 0.4 to 0.11 km2. The glaciers are mainly corrie type of the N, NE and NW aspects. The change of average glacier firn line is from several tens of metres to 400–500 m.The Koryak Highlands are a poorly explored area in terms of glaciation and its connection to climate. Currently, the need for escalated organizational transformations has become imminent, taking into account the intensifying development of the differentiated information society, which requires properly interactive and transparent policy-making. Correct understanding of information and effective implementation of information technologies is a rational attempt to harmonize the modern organizational environment reducing the level of conflict and improving efficiency indexes
Two-loop Correction to the Instanton Density for the Double Well Potential
Feynman diagrams in the instanton background are used for the calculation of
the tunneling amplitude, up to the two-loops order. Some mistakes made in the
previous works are corrected. The same method is applied to the next-order
corrections to the ground state wave function
This article presents the results of an empirical study of the "sportification" of amateur-level competitive computer gaming. How do amateur players, who are unlikely to become professional esports players, turn what is considered to be enjoyable entertainment into a collective activity that demonstrates traits traditionally associated with professional sports, such as self-discipline, a focus on achieving results and overcoming personal limitations? Ethnographic research, consisting of in-depth interviews and participant observations, was conducted in the last quarter of 2019 based on a series of tournaments (Rocket League, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, League of Legends, and Rainbow Six Siege) managed by a student esports club of a Moscow-based university. Such clubs combine different levels of esports practice: players who consider themselves amateurs who attend tournaments "for fun", players seeking professionalization and who have already received the first modest revenue from their activity, as well as players who achieved the status of a cyberathlete through membership in one of the university teams. Thus, student esports represents an ideal environment for exploring the dynamics of changes in the meanings that players put into their activity, as well as for finding elements holding together what could be called "esports culture". The analysis conducted in the present article is based not so much on the interpretations of the phenomenon of esports that exists in the field of game studies, as on two classical sociological traditions: the writings of Erving Goffman and Howard Becker, on the one hand, and those of Max Weber and Norbert Elias on the other. As a result, the process of the "sportification" of the amateur practice of competitive computer games is presented in the article as a change in the actors' level of reflexivity: towards the game, towards themselves during play, and towards the world around the game, occurring as they move through the stages of the "career of a competitive player"
The article is devoted to the examination of A.Platonov's stories about Makar Ganushkin, in particular, examination of some features of creative strategy of the writer who recreates «external material» in the text: newspaper and references, historical and biographic facts. Platonov›s text connects fairy tales and realities, propaganda and the art. We introduce the documents earlier not known and not published which have essential value for studying of creativity of A. Platonov in the 1920th - the 1930th years (during his work on short stories «The Dubious Makar», «The Kept Separate Makar»).
In article A. Platonov’s stories about the Great Patriotic War in the light of creative strategy of the writer are analyzed. Specifics of an art reflection of the writer about the past and the future of the Russian people, discrepancy of the discourse realized in military prose of A. Platonov with ideology and practice of the Soviet press, a ratio of an art and propaganda discourse become clear. Ways of an embodiment «opinions national», values of democratic consciousness are investigated. A subject of the analysis is the art prognostics of the writer in the conditions of a subacceptable narrationВ статье анализируются рассказы А.
The first annually resolved analysis of slash-and-burn practices in the boreal Eurasia suggests their strong climatic and socio-economic controls
Slash-and-burn (SAB) was a widespread agricultural practice across large parts of the boreal region until the early 20th century. Despite its paramount importance in the procurement of food and particularly in supporting frontier populations of settlers during the colonization of the Eurasian boreal zone, analyses of spatial and temporal patterns in the use of SAB at annual and sub-annual scales are currently missing. We present the first such analysis of climatic and social controls of SAB practices in a remote region in the northern Ural mountains from 1880 to 1894. We observed a significant positive correlation between the total number of burns and the village population (p = 0.005, R-2 = 0.26), indicating that the frequency of burns directly reflected the local demand for food. The amount of agricultural land, regarded as a cumulative measure of burning activity over multiple decades, showed a strong positive correlation with the village population (p < 0.001, R-2 = 0.60). This result supported our interpretation of burns as an important food procurement tool, probably also positively affected by higher labour availability in larger villages. Villages where the number of burns were higher than predicted by the "the population vs. burns" regression tended (p = 0.15) to have larger areas of arable land than predicted by the "population vs. arable land" regression. This pattern implied that variability in the local environmental and/or socio-economic settings of the villages made some of them more (or otherwise less) favourable for agricultural activities based on SAB. Most reported burns occurred in June and July. The three years with the maximum number of reported burns had a tendency to be wetter during these months when compared to the same period during an "average" year (p = 0.19). The pattern suggested that farmers preferred conducting burns during years with a below-average climatological fire hazard. An earlier start of the fire season favoured burning activity (p = 0.10 R-2 = 0.33), while its later ending had no significant effect on the number of burns (p = 0.53). Our study documented strong climatic controls of SAB practices at the annual scale and their social controls at above-annual scales. These patterns emerged despite the common use of slash-and-burn to mitigate generally limited food availability in the northern Ural mountain region and likely conservative estimates of these practices in available records
There’s the short review of the collective monograph about poetics of the novel of A. Platonov, «The Juvenilnoe Sea» which was published at Belgrad›s university. In dialogue with predecessors we consider such questions as «system of prospect», language practice, strategy of the story, hints and memoirs, development of style, gender roles and system of symbols, spatial structure of work, science and the myth in creative consciousness of the writer, axiological model, the parody phenomenon, ways of an embodiment of position of the author.
