    Search for the Standard Model Higgs boson decaying to a b-quark pair with ATLAS

    Summary of first ATLAS results is given for the Standard Model Higgs boson in the mass range 110 < m_H < 130 GeV, when produced in association with a W/Z boson and decaying to a pair of b-quarks. No evidence for the Higgs boson production is observed in a dataset of proton-proton collisions at a center of mass energy of 7 TeV and corresponding to 1.04 fb^-1 of integrated luminosity, recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC in 2011. Upper limits on Higgs boson production cross sections for the channels considered are presented.Peer Reviewe

    La reacción institucionalista : un estudio sobre la heterodoxia económica en los Estados Unidos de América

    El artículo estudia el nacimiento y la trayectoria del institucionalismo económico en su etapa formativa. Se analizan sus fundamentos y temas principales junto a sus autores más relevantes. Para comprender la unidad intelectual de un grupo aparentemente heterogéneo, se sostiene que la historia del institucionalismo económico debe ser interpretada bajo el análisis de los contextos de investigación y la figura de un movimiento económico. Se concluye que este último posee rasgos de heterodoxia frente a la corriente principal de la ciencia económica.The article studies the beginning and the path of the economic institutionalism in its formative stage. It will be analyzed its roots, main issues and more relevant authors. In order to understand the intellectual unity of a group that seems to be heterogeneous, it is stated that the institutionalist history must be understood from the research contexts and the economic movement figure approaches.     Albendazole Solid Dispersions: Influence of Dissolution Medium Composition on In Vitro Drug Release

    The rate-limiting step to drug absorption is often dissolution from the dosage form, especially for poorly soluble com-pounds. Two possibilities for improving the dissolution of these drugs are to increase the available surface area and to im-prove their apparent solubilities under physiologically relevant conditions with surfactants as wetting agents. Albendazole (ABZ), one of the most effective broad-spectrum antihelminthic agents, has a very low aqueous solubility, which leads to an erratic availability. Solid dispersions (SD) with different amounts of carriers (P188 and PEG6000) were formulated to improve the ABZ dissolution rate. When the dissolution test is used to infer biopharmaceutical properties of the dosage form, it is es-sential that the method simulates the gastrointestinal conditions. The objective of this study was to examine the applicabil-ity of different dissolution media to the evaluation of ABZ and ABZ-SD dissolution rates. Dissolution profiles were performed by the official method (0.1 N HCl) and Simulated Gastric Fluid modified with a surfactant. Wetting was evaluated through the determination of surface tension and contact angle of the solutions. The dissolution rate of ABZ was clearly affected by the variables assessed in this study.     Recharging process of commercial floating-gate MOS transistor in dosimetry application

    This research was funded by Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia, under the project No.43011, grant No.451-03-9/2021-14/200026 and European Com-mission, WIDESPREAD-2018-3-TWINNING, grant No.857558-ELICSIR.We investigated the recharging process of commercial floating gate device (EPAD) during the six different dose rates and ten irradiation cycles with the highest dose rate. Dose rate dependence of the floating gate dosimeter was observed from 1 Gy/h to 26 Gy/h (H2O). There is no change of the dosimetric characteristic with a constant dose rate of 26 Gy/h for ten cycles. The absorbed dose does not affect the drift of the threshold voltage readings after the irradiation steps.     Commercial P-Channel Power VDMOSFET as X-ray Dosimeter

    This research was funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 857558, and the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia under the project No. 43011.The possibility of using commercial p-channel power vertical double-diffused metal-oxidesemiconductor field-effect transistors (VDMOSFETs) as X-ray sensors is investigated in this case study. In this aspect, the dependence of sensitivity on both the gate voltage and the mean energy for three X-ray beams is examined. The eight gate voltages from 0 to 21 V are applied, and the dependence of the sensitivity on the gate voltage is well fitted using the proposed equation. Regarding X-ray energy, the sensitivity first increases and then decreases as a consequence of the behavior of the mass energy-absorption coefficients and is the largest for RQR8 beam. As the mass energy-absorption coefficients of SiO2 are not found in the literature, the mass energy-absorption coefficients of silicon are used.     En la presente investigación, se realizó un estudio basado en la capacidad de adopción de las Normas Internacionales de Información Financiera para Pequeñas y Medianas Empresas en Matagalpa y Jinotega en el 2012, con el propósito de Evaluar la estructura que presenta la mediana empresa Transportes Soza de acuerdo a lo establecido en dichas Normas de Información Financiera. Esta temática es de suma importancia para la empresa Transportes Soza porque, la adopción de estas Normas tiene como objetivo la implementación de un único conjunto de normas contables de carácter global que sean de alta calidad, comprensibles, que requieran información de alta calidad, transparente y comparable en los estados financieros que ayuden a participar a las empresas en los mercados de capitales de todo el mundo y a tomar decisiones económicas eficientes. Actualmente la empresa Transportes Soza no tiene conocimiento sobre el marco de referencia conceptual y legal que aborda el tema. Cuenta con una estructura organizativa que le permite una mayor eficiencia y eficacia en el desarrollo de sus funciones operativas, así como también cuenta con los recursos necesarios y la disposición para la implementación de estas Normas Financiera. La empresa se encuentra en una etapa de actualización y formalización de su sistema contable con el propósito de que la información generada sea confiable, oportuna y precisa para la toma de decisiones.     The influence of the Brazil and Malvinas Currents on the Southwestern Atlantic Shelf Circulation

    The oceanic circulation over the southwestern Atlantic shelf is influenced by large tidal amplitudes, substantial freshwater discharges, high wind speeds and – most importantly – by its proximity to two of the largest western boundary currents of the world ocean: the Brazil and Malvinas currents. This review article aims to discriminate the dynamical processes controlling the interaction between this extensive shelf region and the deep-ocean. The discussion is focused on two broad regions: the South Brazil Bight to the north, and Patagonia to the south. The exchanges between the Brazil Current and the South Brazil Bight are characterized by the intermittent development of eddies and meanders of the Brazil Current at the shelfbreak. However, it is argued that this is not the only – nor the most important – influence of the Brazil Current on the shelf. Numerical simulations show that the thermohaline structure of the South Brazil Bight can be entirely ascribed to steady state, bottom boundary layer interactions between the shelf and the Brazil Current. The Malvinas Current does not show the development of eddies and meanders, but its influence on the Patagonian shelf is not less important. Models and observations indicate that the Malvinas Current not only controls the shelfbreak dynamics and cross-shelf exchanges but also influences the circulation in the shelf's interior.Fil: Matano, Ricardo.     The surface salinity maximum of the South Atlantic

    Like most other ocean basins, the maximum sea surface salinity region (MSR) in the South Atlantic shows a large displacement from the region of maximum difference between evaporation and precipitation (E-P), suggesting that ocean processes play a key role in determining the location of the MSR. We use outputs from a general circulation model (ECCO v4r3) to analyze the mixed layer salinity balance and disentangle the interaction of atmospheric forcing and oceanic processes in both regions. The MSR balance is dominated by evaporative surface fluxes and entrainment, while advection and diffusion play a secondary role. On the other hand, in the region of maximum E-P, the high surface freshwater loss is partially compensated by horizontal advection of low salinity waters, which is responsible for decreasing the salinity below that observed in the MSR. Using a particle tracking model, we find that MSR waters originate mostly from re-circulation in the Tropical South Atlantic and from the Tropical North Atlantic and Indian Oceans. After reaching the MSR, most of those waters flow southward in austral summer along the Brazil Current (1.6 Sv, 1 Sv = 106 m3 s−1), and northward in winter along the North Brazil Current (3.5 Sv). This seasonal variability in the fate of the salty water is modulated by the seasonal migration of the South Equatorial Current bifurcation region. Tracking of particles released at the base of the MSR mixed layer shows a subducted salt river with an estimated transport of 2.6 Sv on the 25.2 kg m−3 neutral density surface that flows northward along the North Brazil Current and retroflects just north of the equator as part of the Equatorial Undercurrent. These high-salinity waters are a significant contributor to the upper limb of the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation and the eastern Tropical Atlantic and their variability.Fil: Aubone, N..     One datum and many values for sustainable Industry 4.0: a prognostic and health management use case

    Industrial context of today, driven by the Industry 4.0 paradigm, is overwhelmed by data. Decreasing cost of innovative technologies, and recent market dynamics have pushed and pulled respectively for those architectures and practices in which data are the masters. While advancing, we have to take care of waste, even though intangibility of data makes them hardly connected to waste. In this paper we are going to reflect on data intensive context of today, focusing on the industrial sector. A smart approach for fully exploiting data collecting infrastructures is proposed, and its declination in a prognostic and health management (PHM) use case set inside an automatic painting system is presented. The contributions of this papers are mainly two: first of all, the general conceptual take-away of "data re-use" is presented and discussed. Moreover, a PHM solution for painting system's number plates, based on optical character recognition (OCR), is proposed and tested as a proof-of-concept for the "data re-use" concept. Summarizing, the already-in-use data sharing principle for achieving transparency and integration inside Industry 4.0, is presented as complementary with the proposed "data re-use", in order to develop a really sustainable shift toward the future

    Cross-Shelf Exchange in the Southwestern Atlantic Shelf: Climatology and Extreme Events

    The variability and drivers of the cross-shelf exchanges between the Southwestern Atlantic shelf and the open ocean from 30 to 40°S are analyzed using a high-resolution ocean model reanalysis at daily resolution. The model's performance was first evaluated using altimetry data, and independent mooring and hydrographic data collected in the study area. Model transports are in overall good agreement with all other estimates. The record-mean (1993–2018) cross-shore transport is offshore, 2.09 ± 1.60 Sv. 73% of the shelf-open ocean exchange occurs in the vicinity of Brazil-Malvinas Confluence (~38°S) and 20% near 32°S. This outflow is mostly contributed by northward alongshore transport through 40°S (63%) and the remaining by southward transport through 30°S (37%). The cross-shore flow presents weak seasonal variations, with a maximum in austral summer, and high variability at subannual and weekly time scales. The latter is mainly associated with abrupt wind changes generated by synoptic atmospheric systems. Alongshore wind variations set up sea-level changes in the inner shelf which in turn drive large anomalies in the associated geostrophic alongshore flow. The difference in inner shelf sea-level anomalies at 30 and 40°S is a good indicator of cross-shelf exchange at seasonal and shorter time scales. Episodes of extreme offshore transport that reach up to 9.45 Sv and last about 2 days are driven by convergence of these alongshore flows over the shelf. Large exports of shelf waters lead to freshening of the upper open ocean as revealed by in-situ and satellite observations. In contrast, onshore extreme events drive open ocean water intrusions of up to 6.53 Sv and last <4 days.
