    L'oeil rouge

    No full text
The red eye is a frequent symptom in emergency consultation. The general practitioner should be aware about the sample of possible etiologies. The diseases causing redness are various, sometimes benign but sometimes threatening vision. The most frequent diagnostic hypotheses will be summarized here, as well as the practical methodological elements allowing gross differential diagnosis in the absence of specific instrumentation.SCOPUS: ar.jinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe

The Key Success Factors for the Moroccan Handicraft Industry

    No full text
Today, the Moroccan handicrafts suffers at the level of production management, in this sense it is very important to put in place tools effective enough to increase productivity and performance of the handicraft sector in Morocco. A key success factor is an element that leads to the various elements of a company, it remains a very important point to be implemented in the craft units so that they can succeed in terms of efficiency and performance

Numerical simulation of the advection-diffusion-reaction equation using finite difference and operator splitting methods: Application on the 1D transport problem of contaminant in saturated porous media

    No full text
The combined advection-diffusion-reaction (ADR) equation, which describe the transport problem of a contaminant in porous medium, does not generally admit an analytical solution. In general, when solving the ADR equation, the numerical methods (such as finite differences, finite elements, splitting), for most practical problems, the ADR equation is too difficult to solve analytically. The finite difference method is the oldest and most commonly used method for the numerical solution of this kind of equation. Although newer techniques, such as those based on finite elements and splitting are appropriate for the solution of equilibrium-type problems, the finite difference remains the most appropriate for the solution of time-dependent phenomena. The transport of a contaminant can also be written by the ADR equation; hence, our objective is to choose the most efficient method to study the 1D transport problem of a contaminant and its evolution in a porous medium. In this work, we will simulate the ADR equation using two different methods: those of finite difference and splitting ones. The numerical result will be compared with the analytical solution in order to discuss the stability and the convergence of each of them using those two different methods. In the end, we will show that the splitting technical method is more efficient for solving this kind of problems in comparison with the finite difference method despite the fact that the latter is the most widely used by researchers. The validation of the efficiency of this method, implemented in this simulation, is tested on a 1D-transport problem of contaminant in a saturated porous medium

Spectral domain optical coherence tomography findings in early deferoxamine maculopathy: Report of two cases

    No full text
Purpose: To describe spectral domain optical coherence tomography features in two cases of early deferoxamine induced retinal toxicity. Methods: Two patients complained of sudden bilateral visual loss and dyschromatopsia. Both suffered from acute myelocytic leukemia with severe aplastic anemia and were treated with intravenous deferoxamine for 1 month. First ophthalmologic exploration and follow-up included fundoscopic examination, fluorescence angiography, fundus autofluorescence, and spectral domain optical coherence tomography. Results: Initially, both patients presented with a decreased visual acuity, inferior to 20/ 100. Fundus examination revealed a loss of transparency of the outer retina in the two cases. Autofluorescence pictures displayed hypoautofluorescence in the macular area, whereas fluorescein angiography unveiled an annular hyperfluorescence staining in the macular zone. Spectral domain optical coherence tomography showed a serous detachment of the neuroepithelium associated with photoreceptor outer segment elongation. Deferoxamine toxicity was immediately suspected and therapy promptly interrupted. One week later, both patients recovered visual acuity of 20/20 but retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) mottling was noticed in the macular areas. Spectral domain optical coherence tomography monitoring showed a progressive resolution of serous retinal detachment. Elongation of the photoreceptor outer segment disappeared but the RPE remained thickened, interrupted, and fragmented at different macular loci. Conclusion: Serous detachment of the neuroepithelium associated with photoreceptor outer segment elongation in the early stage of deferoxamine maculopathy is described for the first time. Early drug discontinuation allowed a fast resolution of the serous detachment but the typical RPE pigment mottling observed at the resolution phase was noticed 1 week later. Cost-effective non-noble metal supported on conducting polymer composite such as nickel nanoparticles/polypyrrole as efficient anode electrocatalyst for ethanol oxidation

International audienceThe adoption of fuel cells for portable electronic devices appears to be an efficient promising approach to alleviate the energetic dependence to fossil fuels. Poly-pyrrole (PPy) and nickel nanoparticles (NiNPs) based electro catalyst was synthesized by galvanostatic and potentiostatic modes respectively using the regeneration approach with the aim to accelerate the kinetics of anodic oxidation of ethanol with a low production cost, good catalytic activity, high resistance to poisoning species and long term stability. The electrochemical, morphological, structural, and catalytic features of the nanocomposite were investigated using several techniques such as cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical Impedance spectroscopy (EIS), scanning electron spectroscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The effect of the NiNPs content on the electrocatalytic performance of NiNPs/PPy was investigated which lead to the optimized composition. An excessive amounts of nickel particles reduces the number of active sites of the material causing a sluggishness of the electron transfer path. Consequently, the optimal concentration of nickel which reveals the best electrocatalytic activity of NiNPs/PPy/CPE nanocomposite for ethanol electrooxidation is 6 mM. At this concentration, the value of the anodic current is dramatically amplified from 3.58 mA/cm2 to 20.1 mA/cm2 on the regenerated electrode proving the effectiveness of the regeneration approach on enhancing the current density and magnifying the anodic peak. The regeneration of the electrode reduces the electrocatalyst tolerance towards poisoning intermediate carbonaceous species accumulated on the catalyst surfaces and increased the current density with a good stability for more than 5000s
