Thermodynamics Characterization of Density models for an Effective Solar Water Heater Sizing

    Get PDF
The problem faced in Sizing of an effective Solar Water Heater (SWH) by engineers to meet certain design requirement is highly enormous. Using the thermodynamic characterization relation and the knowledge of Solar Water Heater (SWH) density’s model; various design were evaluated. The result shows that density model actually predicts adequately and providing alternative means of estimating these design parameters. Also, the properties of the system, such as entropy and enthalpy (specific heat capacities), which cannot be determined directly from experimental axiom, were evaluated. These evaluations therefore, give room to express the thermodynamics properties of the system and consequently improve the design performance. Further comparisons with experimental results reveal a better outfit. Therefore through the knowledge of thermodynamic relation an efficient Solar Water Heater is operated and empirical data is expanded

Nigeria’s Energy Policy: Issues of Sustainable Energy Development in Nigeria

The concerns for environmental sustainability have become the subjects of global discussion. This has prompted debates, negotiations, declarations and legislations world over. The outcome of these engagements has favoured the reduction of anthropogenic emissions that are deleterious to the environment and at the same time promote environmental sustainability in the face of economic development. One of the major sources of anthropogenic emissions has been linked to energy production. The Nigeria energy development process has gone through various policy developmental phases. This has led to the creation of some policy statements which include the energy policy of vision 20:2020 and the Renewable Energy Master Plan. This study was therefore used to critically assess the various policy issues of sustainable energy development in Nigeria. It appraised the level of development as highlighted in the policy statements and also analyzed the index of renewable energy production as stated by the policy statement. Further to this, some challenges impinging on the development and utilization of sustainable energy in the nation were identified and discussed. Some suggestions and legal proposals which may aid the promotion of renewable energy development in Nigeria and also improve the nation’s energy policy are also highlighte

Production of Biodegradable Detergent from Castor Oil

This research work was carried out with the objective of extraction of oil from castor seeds and its utilization to produce a biodegradable detergent. Solvent extraction method was employed in extracting the oil and the total percent oil yield was found to be 23.8%. The experimentally determined saponification value of the oil was 183.7275mgKOH/g of oil. The detergent efficiency, determined as a measure of the foamability of the detergent was found to be 2.6cm. The pH tests revealed mildly basic properties. The color, scent and efficiency of the detergent were improved with the addition of bleaching agent, perfume and foaming agents respectively. INCREASING THE ACCESS OF WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS TO FINANCE IN NIGERIA

One of the challenges of women entrepreneurs in Nigeria, amid the marginalisation, denial of property rights and socio-cultural drawbacks they suffer, is limited access to finance. This chapter examines the available financial windows for the funding of women’s businesses in the country and advocates that for there to be increase in the access of women entrepreneurs to more funding opportunities, there needs to be increase in the education of women, their management and financial literacy, and there should be removal of entrenched barriers to finance such as collateral and credit history, and cultural limitations which have hamstrung women’s entrepreneurial ventures up until now

Waning Cultural Values and Adolescent Chastity: A Study of Arugba in Nigeria

The rapid increase in moral decadence among adolescents has become a recognized social problem in Nigeria. The study focuses on the role of cultural values and how it has helped to promote chastity. It examines the perception of female adolescents and their parents towards chastity and also the role media play in upholding the value. Survey and in-depth interview were employed to gather data. 160 Respondents are drawn from Osogbo Local Government in Osun State, Nigeria. Findings reveal a decline in cultural values and practices over time and this is linked to the impact of westernization on value placed on female adolescent chastity. The study revealed that the media has really not helped by portraying pictures or videos that encourage adolescents to remain chaste. As much as culture influences our way of life, the role of the family in maintaining moral sanctity cannot be over emphasized as the family is the primary agent of socialization. Economic related risks and dirt of investment at both national and international scales have been reported in research. There is a correlation between the existence of such multi-dimensional risks and business expansion across major cultures. In view of this fact, this study engages the analysis of the effect of cyber fraud on investment decisions in Nigeria. It adopts mixed method design thus culminating into the use of few research instruments. The population of the study is divided into two and six local government areas of Lagos state, Nigeria was selected and used for data collection. It was found that investment decision in this technological era is also mitigated by the existence of risk and this trend conforms to what research have documented for all known investible environments. It is recommended that nations should do more to assuage investors the fear of losing their hard earned resources. This is expected to be achieved by promoting citizen friendly policies that will reduce the likelihood of experimenting with unlawful behaviours that are capable of inhibiting socio-economic development and this will invariably promote a favourable investment atmosphere that will spur economic growth
