Antibacterial Solution Using Cinnamomum verum (Cinammon) and Cympobogon citratus (Lemongrass) Essential Oils with Hydrogen Peroxide Against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli

Amidst the pandemic, millions of impoverished Filipinos lack sufficient access to sanitation services that protect them from bacterial infections. As such, this study endeavored to formulate a disinfectant spray of hydrogen peroxide and varying concentrations of lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) and cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum) essential oils to produce a maximally effective solution. Due to their natural origin, these essential oils were chosen for their extensive antibacterial properties, affordable price, and low toxicity levels. Six disinfectant spray solutions containing different concentrations of either essential oil were tested against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria through the agar disk diffusion method. After analyzing the data using mean, standard deviation, and MANOVA, it was found that including cinnamon and lemongrass essential oil had no statistically significant effect on the antibacterial activity of the hydrogen peroxide solution, regardless of the concentration of essential oil used, p \u3e 0.05. However, the lemongrass samples were slightly more effective than the cinnamon solutions. Thus, future researchers are encouraged to investigate other components that can potentially increase the antibacterial activity of a disinfectant spray

AbstractThe routine use of anti-CD20 monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) has improved patient outcomes in CD20-positive non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL) and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Despite the clinical success achieved with rituximab, relapses are still common with further improvements in anti-CD20 mAb efficacy required. Many novel anti-CD20 antibodies are in development, but obinutuzumab is currently the only type II glycoengineered anti-CD20 mAb in clinical testing.Obinutuzumab has increased antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity, reduced complement-dependent cytotoxicity and enhanced direct non-apoptotic cell death. In preclinical models, obinutuzumab induced superior tumor remission compared with rituximab at the equivalent dose levels, and was active in rituximab-refractory tumors. Obinutuzumab exhibits encouraging efficacy as monotherapy in NHL, and combined with chemotherapy in relapsed/refractory NHL and treatment-naïve symptomatic CLL. In a recent randomized, phase III trial in patients with untreated comorbid CLL, overall response rate was significantly greater (78% vs. 65%, P<0.0001) and median progression-free survival was significantly prolonged (26.7 vs. 15.2months, P<0.0001) for obinutuzumab plus chlorambucil vs. rituximab plus chlorambucil.Obinutuzumab is a type II anti-CD20 antibody that utilizes distinct mechanisms of action relative to type I antibodies like rituximab and has led to significant clinical improvement over rituximab in a phase III trial in CLL. Further trials are ongoing to determine whether such improvements in outcome will be seen in CD20-positive B-cell malignancies

The screenplay is a text in transit. Evolving between two forms, it is most of the times written to be lost once the movie is finished, after a long process of rewriting and anticipating the filmic texture. From these observations, the present dissertation aims to highlight the potentiality of screenwriting right from its in-between position, from its particular interzones. Taking into account this multiplicity, this research explores the different perspectives surrounding the subject through a trans-disciplinary approach. Starting from an analysis of the different relations between writing and audiovisual within literature and cinema, the work focuses on retracing a genealogy of the screenplay, or more precisely, the origin of a hegemonic discourse which had been defining what screenwriting should be, based on fixed notions of standard cinema. In opposition to this prescriptive tradition which prevents a wider understanding of the screenplay, it is possible to consider, based on different theoretical contributions such as Pasolini’s theory, Barthe’s concepts of text and scriptor, or Derrida’s idea of spectrality, the screenplay text as a complex process in which the filmic and written forms merge into a potentialized and dynamic textuality. Thus, the creation of the kinetexte concept intends to assemble those many movements, traces and temporalities which operate within screenwriting, while the analysis of the chosen screenwriters-directors’ screenplays helps us demonstrate an expanded use of writing, far beyond the conventional guidelines of « adequate » screenwriting. Clearly, screenwriting exceeds a state of subordination in relation to the film and reveals a zone of great aesthetic experimentation. This dissertation eventually points out that the construction of an expanded idea of screenplay clashes, ethical and politically, against a specific conception of screenplay which is, as a matter of fact, the product of a historical process and of a hegemonic idea of cinema itself

Local magnetization and strain in single magnetoelectric microrod composites

Magneto-optic Kerr effect microscopy and nanofocus X-ray diffraction are combined to investigate the local mapping of the magnetoelectric microcomposite properties of ZnO microrods coated with an amorphous (Fe90Co10)78Si12B10 layer. We follow the magnetic domain behavior and lattice deformation upon applying an external magnetic field. In addition to the expected field induced strain, we observe a local magnetic induced strain in the 10−5 range in the ZnO localized near the (Fe90Co10)78Si12B10 /ZnO interface

Tunable Strain in Magnetoelectric ZnO Microrod Composite Interfaces

The intrinsic strain at coupled components in magnetoelectric composites plays an important role for the properties and function of these materials. In this in situ X-ray nanodiffraction experiment, the coating-induced as well as the magnetic-field-induced strain at the coupled interface of complex magnetoelectric microcomposites were investigated. These consist of piezoelectric ZnO microrods coated with an amorphous layer of magnetostrictive (Fe90Co10)78Si12B10. While the intrinsic strain is in the range of 10–4, the magnetic-field-induced strain is within 10–5, one order of magnitude smaller. Additionally, the strain relaxation distance of around 5 μm for both kinds of strain superposes indicating a correlation. The value of both intrinsic and magnetic-field-induced strain can be manipulated by the diameter of the rodlike composite. The intrinsic interface strain within the ZnO increases exponentially by decreasing the rod diameter while the magnetic-field-induced strain increases linearly within the given range. This study shows that miniaturizing has a huge impact on magnetoelectric composite properties, resulting in a strongly enhanced strain field and magnetic response
