Explicit expressions are obtained for this descriptor Kalman filter allowing for the possible singularity of the observation noise covariance. Asymptotic behavior of the filter in the time-invariant case is studied ; in particular, a method for constructing the solution of the algebraic descriptor Riccati equation is presented

    Graph structure and recursive estimation of noisy linear relations

    Projet META2This paper examines estimation problems specified by noisy linear relations describing either dynamical models or measurements. Each such problem has a graph structure, which can be exploited to derive recursive estimation algorithms only when the graph is acyclic, i.e. when it is obtained by combining disjoint trees. Aggregation techniques appropriate for reducing an arbitrary graph to an acyclic one are presented. The recursive maximum likelihood estimation procedures that we present are based on two elementary operations, called reduction and extraction, which are used to compress successive observations and discard unneeded variables. These elementary operations are used to derive filtering and smoothing formulas applicable to both linear and arbitrary trees, which are in turn applicable to estimation problems in settings ranging from 1-D descriptor systems to 2-D difference equations to multiscal models of random fields. These algorithms can beviewed as direct generalizations to a far richer setting of Kalman filtering and both two-filter and Rauch-Tung-Striebel smoothing for standard causal state space models

    Temperature enhanced persistent currents and "Ï•0/2\phi_0/2 periodicity"

    We predict a non-monotonous temperature dependence of the persistent currents in a ballistic ring coupled strongly to a stub in the grand canonical as well as in the canonical case. We also show that such a non-monotonous temperature dependence can naturally lead to a ϕ0/2\phi_0/2 periodicity of the persistent currents, where ϕ0\phi_0=h/e. There is a crossover temperature T∗T^*, below which persistent currents increase in amplitude with temperature while they decrease above this temperature. This is in contrast to persistent currents in rings being monotonously affected by temperature. T∗T^* is parameter-dependent but of the order of Δu/π2kB\Delta_u/\pi^2k_B, where Δu\Delta_u is the level spacing of the isolated ring. For the grand-canonical case T∗T^* is half of that for the canonical case.Comment: some typos correcte

I argue that the analysis of these early texts, which were written in the years in which Gramsci was active in party organisation and leadership, is fundamental not only for understanding the nature of Gramsci’s early and continued involvement with questions of cultural strategy and institutions, but also as a key for interpreting cultural policy themes that he later developed in the prison notebooks, and which originated in earlier debates

    Martensitic transition and magnetoresistance in a Cu-Al-Mn shape memory alloy. Influence of aging

    We have studied the effect of ageing within the miscibility gap on the electric, magnetic and thermodynamic properties of a non-stoichiometric Heusler Cu-Al-Mn shape-memory alloy, which undergoes a martensitic transition from a bccbcc-based (β\beta-phase) towards a close-packed structure (MM-phase). Negative magnetoresistance which shows an almost linear dependence on the square of magnetization with different slopes in the MM- and β\beta-phases, was observed. This magnetoresistive effect has been associated with the existence of Mn-rich clusters with the Cu2_2AlMn-structure. The effect of an applied magnetic field on the martensitic transition has also been studied. The entropy change between the β\beta- and MM-phases shows negligible dependence on the magnetic field but it decreases significantly with annealing time within the miscibility gap. Such a decrease is due to the increasing amount of Cu2_2MnAl-rich domains that do not transform martensitically.Comment: 9 pages, 9 figures, accepted for publication in PR

    PT-symmetric Solutions of Schrodinger Equation with position-dependent mass via Point Canonical Transformation

    PT-symmetric solutions of Schrodinger equation are obtained for the Scarf and generalized harmonic oscillator potentials with the position-dependent mass. A general point canonical transformation is applied by using a free parameter. Three different forms of mass distributions are used. A set of the energy eigenvalues of the bound states and corresponding wave functions for target potentials are obtained as a function of the free parameter.Comment: 13 page
