Influence of Polymers on the Physicochemical Properties of Benzonal in Solid Dispersions

    No full text
Abstract: The influence of solid dispersions (SDs) on some physicochemical properties of benzonal is studied. Investigated: benzonal and its SD with polyvinylpyrrolidone-10 000 (PVP), polyethylene glycol-1500 (PEG), Ξ²-cyclodextrin (CD). The preparation of SD by the solvent removal method increases the solubility and dissolution rate of benzonal in water. The solubility increases by 3.5–5.5 times; and the speed of dissolving, by 4.0–10.0 times. The complex of physical and chemical research methods suggests that the preparation of an SD with the studied polymers is accompanied by loss of crystallinity and formation of a solid solution of benzonal in the polymer, as well as solubilization and formation of colloidal solutions of benzonal during subsequent dissolution of SD in water. The results obtained can be used in the development of fast-dissolving benzonal tablets with increased release and bioavailability. Β© 2020, Allerton Press, Inc

    No full text
Plants of Galanthus L. genus (snowdrops) used in Russian medicine for obtaining neurological and cardiovascular remedies, contain different types of carbohydrates (polysaccharides, monosaccharides) as additional biological active substances group. In present research the carbohydrate composition and content were investigated in the snowdrops herbal pharmaceutical substances (Galanthus woronowii Losinsk, Galanthus nivalis L.). Optimal conditions for TLC analysis, the extraction of crude herbal drugs, were determined; spectrophotometric procedures for quantifying the total carbohydrate content in terms of monosaccharides (fructose, glucose) were successfully developed. The results of the investigation can be used in quality control and standardization of crude herbal drugs containing carbohydrates, and for inclusion in pharmacopoeial monographs. No full text
Background: Today, there are some unresolved issues and discussions concerning inulin quantitative determination in medicinal plant raw materials (MPRM). MPRM containing polyfructans or fructosans (inulin and others) are rather complex multicomponent matrixes with many interacting compounds. The article discusses the prospects for further standardization of inulin-containing pharmacopoeial MPRM that include, in addition to polysaccharides (inulin), other biologically active compounds with pharmacological activity. Materials and Methods: Different types of search tools such as Google scholar, Google, scientific literature, normative documentation of Russian Federation (State Pharmacopoeia of Russian Federation IV edition and others) electronic databases such as e-Library, Scopus, Web of Science, Pubmed had been searched and data obtained. Results: The pharmacopoeial spectrophotometric procedures of inulin determination in the Russian Federation are approved in a version that does not fully satisfy modern standardization criteria. Regulatory changes required in the near future. Conclusion: Undoubtedly, to determine inulin quantitatively, it is necessary to modify the existing spectrophotometric procedures and introduce an additional alternative, more specific HPLC-RID (or similar) ones.
