Interaction between Kondo impurities in a quantum corral

We calculate the spectral densities for two impurities inside an elliptical quantum corral using exact diagonalization in the relevant Hilbert subspace and embedding into the rest of the system. For one impurity, the space and energy dependence of the change in differential conductance Δ=dI/dV\Delta = dI/dV observed in the quantum mirage experiment is reproduced. In presence of another impurity, Δ=dI/dV\Delta = dI/dV is very sensitive to the hybridization between impurity and bulk. The impurities are correlated ferromagnetically between them. A hopping 0.15\gtrsim 0.15 eV between impurities destroy the Kondo resonance.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

Acquisition of 50 bathymetry and high resolution profles (echosounder transducers of 200 and 12 Khz respectively) col-lected under the EAFIT-COLCIENCIAS project "Geomorphology of the shallow shelf of Departamento de Cordoba and Golfo de Morrosquillo" allowed mapping the morphology and stratigraphic architecture of the inner shelf (depths < 10 m) seafoor and sub-seafoor under Gulf of Morrosquillo. The morphology of the inner shelf, as depicted on a bathymetry map based on 200 kHz soundings, appears broadly as a concave up, largely erosive surface that reaches the 10 m isobath at distances of 2 and 3.5 km from the shoreline. At several localized sites (such as in the NE of the study area), echosounder data provide evidence of positive terrain anomalies, apparently corresponding to recent mud volcanoes of well preserved tops tens of meters across, or recently faulted. The 12 kHz records, which offer a vertical resolution of 30 to 80 cm, were able to penetrate 5 m below the seafoor at various places, and allowed recognition of several buried erosional and deposi-tional features including scarps, angular unconformities, and flled paleochannels. These seafoor and subseafoor features are evidence of an extremely active Holocene dynamics, with important eustatic and tectonic components.   Keywords: Continental shelf, high resolution Geophysics, Holocene, coastal geomorphology.               &nbsp

Twist Deformations of the Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics

The N-extended Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics is deformed via an abelian twist which preserves the super-Hopf algebra structure of its Universal Enveloping Superalgebra. Two constructions are possible. For even N one can identify the 1D N-extended superalgebra with the fermionic Heisenberg algebra. Alternatively, supersymmetry generators can be realized as operators belonging to the Universal Enveloping Superalgebra of one bosonic and several fermionic oscillators. The deformed system is described in terms of twisted operators satisfying twist-deformed (anti)commutators. The main differences between an abelian twist defined in terms of fermionic operators and an abelian twist defined in terms of bosonic operators are discussed.Comment: 18 pages; two references adde

Effectiveness of mobile telemonitoring applications in heart failure patients: systematic review of literature and meta-analysis

Q2Q1Pacientes con Insuficiencia cardiacaClose and frequent follow-up of heart failure (HF) patients improves clinical outcomes. Mobile telemonitoring applications are advantageous alternatives due to their wide availability, portability, low cost, computing power, and interconnectivity. This study aims to evaluate the impact of telemonitoring apps on mortality, hospitalization, and quality of life (QoL) in HF patients. We conducted a registered (PROSPERO CRD42022299516) systematic review of randomized clinical trials (RCTs) evaluating mobile-based telemonitoring strategies in patients with HF, published between January 2000 and December 2021 in 4 databases (PubMed, EMBASE, BVSalud/LILACS, Cochrane Reviews). We assessed the risk of bias using the RoB2 tool. The outcome of interest was the effect on mortality, hospitalization risk, and/or QoL. We performed meta-analysis when appropriate; heterogeneity and risk of publication bias were evaluated. Otherwise, descriptive analyses are offered. We screened 900 references and 19 RCTs were included for review. The risk of bias for mortality and hospitalization was mostly low, whereas for QoL was high. We observed a reduced risk of hospitalization due to HF with the use of mobile-based telemonitoring strategies (RR 0.77 [0.67; 0.89]; I2 7%). Non-statistically significant reduction in mortality risk was observed. The impact on QoL was variable between studies, with different scores and reporting measures used, thus limiting data pooling. The use of mobile-based telemonitoring strategies in patients with HF reduces risk of hospitalization due to HF. As smartphones and wirelessly connected devices are increasingly available, further research on this topic is warranted, particularly in the foundational therapy.https://orcid.org/0000-0002-4189-4317https://orcid.org/0000-0002-8244-2958https://orcid.org/0000-0001-5401-0018https://orcid.org/0000-0003-1490-1822https://orcid.org/0000-0002-3606-2102Revista Internacional - IndexadaA1N

    Dyons in N=4 Gauged Supergravity

    Get PDF
We study monopole and dyon solutions to the equations of motion of the bosonic sector of N = 4 gauged supergravity in four dimensional space-time. A static, spherically symmetric ansatz for the metric, gauge fields, dilaton and axion leads to soliton solutions which, in the electrically charged case, have compact spatial sections. Both analytical and numerical results for the solutions are presented.Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures. Minor changes, references adde

Validation of a rapid analytical method by HPLC for determining coumarin in guaco (Mikania glomerata Sprengel) confirmed with mass spectrometry

    Get PDF
The species Mikania glomerata Sprengel, popularly known in Brazil as guaco , is widely used as an expectorant to treat respiratory diseases. Its pharmacological activity is mainly attributed to coumarin. The results showed that the method for determining coumarin presented linearity from 0.05 to 0.8 mg mL-1. It was considered selective, accurate, and precise according to the specific resolution from ANVISA, the Brazilian regulatory agency. The proposal of a rapid method for the determining coumarin in extracts of guaco is interesting for routine industrial quality control in order to obtain standardized, efficient, and safe phytotherapic medicines.A espécie Mikania glomerata Sprengel, popularmente conhecida no Brasil como guaco, é amplamente utilizada como expectorante para tratar doenças respiratórias e tem a sua atividade farmacológica atribuída principalmente a cumarina. A study of open strings ending on giant gravitons, spin chains and integrability

We systematically study the spectrum of open strings attached to half BPS giant gravitons in the N=4 SYM AdS/CFT setup. We find that some null trajectories along the giant graviton are actually null geodesics of AdS_5x S^5, so that we can study the problem in a plane wave limit setup. We also find the description of these states at weak 't Hooft coupling in the dual CFT. We show how the dual description is given by an open spin chain with variable number of sites. We analyze this system in detail and find numerical evidence for integrability. We also discover an interesting instability of long open strings in Ramond-Ramond backgrounds that is characterized by having a continuum spectrum of the string, which is separated from the ground state by a gap. This instability arises from accelerating the D-brane on which the strings end via the Ramond-Ramond field. From the integrable spin chain point of view, this instability prevents us from formulating the integrable structure in terms of a Bethe Ansatz construction.Comment: 38 pages+appendices, 9 figures.
