Optimization of the master equation set for a multidot tunnel structure

    No full text
In the present paper, we report a procedure to calculate tunnel currents as a function of the applied voltage, by an optimization of the master equation, for a highly disordered tunnel junction array. We take a very large scatter of the tunnel resistances of the individual junctions. In order to reduce the number of equations, several approaches have still been considered in the past. Here, we propose a procedure without any decoupling: we show that relevant results can be obtained inside and outside the Coulomb gap once the charge state range is automatically centered, already from a ±2 truncation of the equation set, for small offset charges or low applied voltage. This last step is achieved in a straightforward way, through the calculation of the total tunneling rate leaving a given configuration. This has been assessed there for the first time on a highly disordered array of five junctions

Simulation of stationary and dynamic responces of organic solar cells

    No full text
The model allowed distinguishing different regimes of the charge transport. It was shown that 2D time-dependent model can be applied to simulate transient photocurrent measurements in order to study sweep-out and recombination kinetics of the charges in the organic solar cells. The model can supply qualitative description of the transient processes in addition to the quantitative description of the simulated bulk heterojunction organic solar cells

Organic solar cells: Extraction of physical parameters by means of markov chain Monte Carlo techniques

    No full text
This paper presents an alternative approach to obtain, from experimental measurements, physical parameters of organic solar cells> associated with a given model. In order to get rid of the limitations of common fitting methods, we use a specific Markov chain Monte Carlo technique. This method is applied to a two-dimensional model of an organic solar cell. Measurements carried out under dark and one sun conditions, from two complementary cells, allow access to more reliable values of the active layer parameters. The corresponding set of parameters generates JV-curves in excellent agreement with the measurements for a range of different illumination intensities. Similar extractions are applied on temperature-dependent parameters, from experimental data acquired at various temperatures. As the simulation results reproduce the measurement data rather well, we show that this approach can also be useful to test or determine the governing law associated with some of the temperature-dependent parameters. In addition, analyzing the simulated responses of the model allows the identification of model limitations. The approach discussed in this paper, not specific to organic solar cells, can be applied to a large range of condensed matter topics

99% random telegraph signal-like noise in gold nanoparticle mu-stripes

In this paper, we report on a process to prepare gold nanoparticle stripes on SiO2 by convective/capillary assembly without any patterning of the substrate. Electrical devices were then fabricated using stencil lithography in order to avoid any contamination. I(V) measurements at room temperature show that these stripes have an ohmic behavior between ± 0.5 V with a resistivity ranging from one to two orders higher than the gold bulk value. Furthermore, I(V) and I(t) measurements reveal current fluctuations that were interpreted in terms of charging and discharging of nanoparticle islands leading to a very large electrostatic perturbation of current conduction paths. Unconventional relative amplitudes of up to 99% RTS fluctuations were observed

Internalized stigma in psoriasis: A multicenter study

Internalized stigma is the adoption of negative attitudes and stereotypes of the society regarding a person's illness. It causes decreased self-esteem and life-satisfaction, increased depression and suicidality, and difficulty in coping with the illness. The primary aim of this study was to investigate the internalized stigma state of psoriatic patients and to identify the factors influencing internalized stigma. The secondary aim was to identify the correlation of internalized stigma with quality of life and perceived health status. This multicentre, cross-sectional study comprised 1485 patients. There was a significant positive correlation between mean values of Psoriasis Internalized Stigma Scale (PISS) and Psoriasis Area and Severity Index, Body Surface Area, Dermatological Life Quality Index and General Health Questionnaire-12 (P < 0.001 in all). Lower percieved health score (P = 0.001), early onset psoriasis (P = 0.016), family history of psoriasis (P = 0.0034), being illiterate (P < 0.001) and lower income level (P < 0.001) were determinants of high PISS scores. Mean PISS values were higher in erythrodermic and generalized pustular psoriasis. Involvement of scalp, face, hand, genitalia and finger nails as well as arthropathic and inverse psoriasis were also related to significantly higher PISS scores (P = 0.001). Our findings imply that psoriatic patients experience high levels of internalized stigma which are associated with psoriasis severity, involvement of visible body parts, genital area, folds or joints, poorer quality of life, negative perceptions of general health and psychological illnesses. Therefore, internalized stigma may be one of the major factors responsible from psychosocial burden of the disease. © 2017 Japanese Dermatological Associatio

Parameters of Patients with Diabetes Mellitus (TEMD Obesity Study)

    No full text
Background: Obesity is the main obstacle for metabolic control in patients with type 2 diabetes. Turkey has the highest prevalence of obesity and type 2 diabetes in Europe. The effect of obesity on the metabolic control, and the macro-and microvascular complications of patients are not apparent. Objectives: This nationwide survey aimed to investigate the prevalence of overweight and obesity among patients with type 2 diabetes and to search for the impact of obesity on the metabolic control of these patients. We also investigated the independent associates of obesity in patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods: We consecutively enrolled patients who were under follow-up for at least 1 year in 69 tertiary healthcare units in 37 cities. The demographic, anthropometric, and clinical data including medications were recorded. Patients were excluded if they were pregnant, younger than 18 years, had decompensated liver disease, psychiatric disorders interfering with cognition or compliance, had bariatric surgery, or were undergoing renal replacement therapy. Results: Only 10% of patients with type 2 diabetes (n = 4,648) had normal body mass indexes (BMI), while the others were affected by overweight (31%) or obesity (59%). Women had a significantly higher prevalence of obesity (53.4 vs. 40%) and severe obesity (16.6 vs. 3.3%). Significant associations were present between high BMI levels and lower education levels, intake of insulin, antihypertensives and statins, poor metabolic control, or the presence of microvascular complications. Age, gender, level of education, smoking, and physical inactivity were the independent associates of obesity in patients with type 2 diabetes. Conclusion: The TEMD Obesity Study shows that obesity is a major determinant of the poor metabolic control in patients with type 2 diabetes. These results underline the importance of prevention and management of obesity to improve health care in patients with type 2 diabetes. Also, the results point out the independent sociodemographic and clinical associates of obesity, which should be the prior targets to overcome, in the national fight with obesity.
