Molecular Quantum Dynamics
We provide a brief introduction to some basic ideas of Molecular Quantum Dynamics. We discuss the scope, strengths and main applications of this field of science. Finally, we also mention open problems of current interest in this exciting subject
Multiplane 3D superresolution optical fluctuation imaging
By switching fluorophores on and off in either a deterministic or a
stochastic manner, superresolution microscopy has enabled the imaging of
biological structures at resolutions well beyond the diffraction limit.
Superresolution optical fluctuation imaging (SOFI) provides an elegant way of
overcoming the diffraction limit in all three spatial dimensions by computing
higher-order cumulants of image sequences of blinking fluorophores acquired
with a conventional widefield microscope. So far, three-dimensional (3D) SOFI
has only been demonstrated by sequential imaging of multiple depth positions.
Here we introduce a versatile imaging scheme which allows for the simultaneous
acquisition of multiple focal planes. Using 3D cross-cumulants, we show that
the depth sampling can be increased. Consequently, the simultaneous acquisition
of multiple focal planes reduces the acquisition time and hence the
photo-bleaching of fluorescent markers. We demonstrate multiplane 3D SOFI by
imaging the mitochondria network in fixed C2C12 cells over a total volume of
without depth scanning.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figure
Generalized necessary scaling condition and stability of chemical reactors with several educts
We present, for a class of industrially relevant chemical reactions with two educts the dependence of stability on important chemical parameters, such as coolant, dilution and diffusion rates. The main analytical tools are generalized upscaling balance condition for the equilibria concentrations and spectral properties of corresponding operators. Although we illustrate the stability analysis for a model reactor (2 educts, E1 and E2), it should be emphasized that our approach is applicable to more complex reaction mechanisms
Energy Level Crossings in Molecular Dynamics
Energy level crossings are the landmarks that separate classical from quantum mechanical modeling of molecular systems. They induce non-adiabatic transitions between the otherwise adiabatically decoupled electronic level spaces. This review covers results on the analysis of propagation through level crossings of codimension two, a mathematical justification of surface hopping algorithms, and a spectral study of a linear isotropic system
