Using Factorial Design Methodology to Assess PLA-g-Ma and Henequen Microfibrillated Cellulose Content on the Mechanical Properties of Poly(lactic acid) Composites

In this work, a 22 factorial design was used to study the effect of microfibrillated henequen cellulose fibers (HENCEL) and PLA-g-MA coupling agent contents on the tensile, flexural, and impact mechanical properties and the heat deflection temperature (HDT) of biodegradable PLA composites. The results show that the principal effects of HENCEL and MA are statistically significant for the tensile, flexural, HDT, and impact strength properties of PLA composites. Regarding the interactions between the principle effects, MA-HENCEL, there are differences with respect to the mechanical property; for example, for tensile and flexural mechanical properties, there is a synergistic effect between MA and HENCEL, whereas for HDT and impact strength there is not any. The micromechanical analysis shows an excellent agreement between the measured and the estimated values for both the composite tensile strength and the elastic modulus and only slight deviations were noticed for high microfibrillated cellulose fibers content. The morphological analysis via SEM indicated that the addition of PLA-g-MA improved the fiber-matrix adhesion because of the HENCEL unbounding and pull-out decreases from the PLA matrix. The use of appropriate values of matrix strength and stiffness and considering the improved fiber-matrix adhesion of the coupling agent yield a good agreement between experimental and estimated values

A general relativistic mass-to-distance ratio for a set of megamaser AGN black holes

In this work we perform a Bayesian statistical fit to estimate the mass-to-distance ratio and the recessional redshift of 10 different black holes hosted at the centre of active galactic nuclei, namely the galaxies NGC 5765b, NGC 6323, UGC 3789, CGCG 074-064, ESO 558-G009, NGC 2960, NGC 6264, NGC 4388, J0437+2456 and NGC 2273. Our general relativistic method makes use of the positions in the sky and frequency shift observations of water megamasers circularly orbiting the central black hole on their accretion disks. This approach also allows us to quantify the gravitational redshift which is not considered in a Newtonian analysis. The gravitational redshift of the megamasers closest to the black hole is found to be within the range 1-6 km/s. The order of the fitted black hole masses corresponds to supermassive black holes and lies on the range 10610710^6 - 10^7 M_{sun}Comment: 7 pages, 1 figure, 3 table

    Revan-degree indices on random graphs

Given a simple connected non-directed graph G=(V(G),E(G))G=(V(G),E(G)), we consider two families of graph invariants: RXΣ(G)=uvE(G)F(ru,rv)RX_\Sigma(G) = \sum_{uv \in E(G)} F(r_u,r_v) (which has gained interest recently) and RXΠ(G)=uvE(G)F(ru,rv)RX_\Pi(G) = \prod_{uv \in E(G)} F(r_u,r_v) (that we introduce in this work); where uvuv denotes the edge of GG connecting the vertices uu and vv, rur_u is the Revan degree of the vertex uu, and FF is a function of the Revan vertex degrees. Here, ru=Δ+δdur_u = \Delta + \delta - d_u with Δ\Delta and δ\delta the maximum and minimum degrees among the vertices of GG and dud_u is the degree of the vertex uu. Particularly, we apply both RXΣ(G)RX_\Sigma(G) and RXΠ(G)X_\Pi(G) on two models of random graphs: Erd\"os-R\'enyi graphs and random geometric graphs. By a thorough computational study we show that \left and \left, normalized to the order of the graph, scale with the average Revan degree \left; here \left denotes the average over an ensemble of random graphs. Moreover, we provide analytical expressions for several graph invariants of both families in the dense graph limit.Comment: 16 pages, 10 figure
