Estimates of Radiation by Superluminal Neutrinos
We show that the more energetic superluminal neutrinos with quadratically
dispersed superluminalities \delta=\beta^2-1, for \beta=v/c where v is the
neutrino velocity, also lose significant energy to radiation to the \nu+e^-+e^+
final state in travelling from CERN to Gran Sasso as has been shown to occur
for those with constant superluminality by Cohen and Glashow if indeed \delta
\simeq 5\times 10^{-5}. In addition, we clarify the dependence of such
radiative processes on the size of the superluminality.Comment: 6 pages, no figures; text re-arranged for journal purposes; improved

Quark mass hierarchy in 3-3-1 models
We study the mass spectrum of the quark sector in an special type I-like
model with gauge symmetry . By
considering couplings with scalar triplets at large () and small
() scales, we obtain specific zero-texture mass matrices for the
quarks which predict three massless quarks () and three massive quarks
() at the electroweak scale ( GeV). Taking into account mixing
couplings with three heavy quarks at large scales predicted by the model, the
three massless quarks obtain masses at small order that depends on the inverse
of the large scale. Thus, masses of the form
and can be obtained naturally from the gauge structure of
the model
Internal conversions in Higgs decays to two photons
We evaluate the partial widths for internal conversions in the Higgs decays
to two photons. For the Higgs masses of interest at LHC in the range of 100-150
GeV, the conversions to pairs of fermions represent significant fraction of
Higgs decays.Comment: one .tex file and two .eps figure
Employee Creativity and Information Technology in the Context of COVID-19 Pandemic: Effect of Large-Scale Unexpected Event on Organizational Innovation
In this study, we propose a theoretical model of factors influencing employee creativity as well as a proposed approach to testing this model. In the past, employee creativity and organizational innovation have been studied in the context of a stable work environment. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has altered the fundamentals of the traditional work environment in such a way that existing IS theories may not address creativity and innovation issues. We address this gap by proposing a theoretical model to investigate the antecedents and moderators of employee creativity and innovation in a pandemic context
CORPORATE ECOLOGICAL RESPONSIVENESS, ENVIRONMENTAL AMBIDEXTERITY AND IT-ENABLED ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGY
An increased focus on creating a sustainable society has thrust environmental sustainability issues to societal and governmental forefront. Organizations can seize this opportunity to use environmental sustainability initiatives to set themselves apart from competitors. Achieving sustainability requires organizations to incorporate sustainability as part of their corporate strategy. A review of extant Information Systems (IS) literature on environmental sustainability revealed that the strategic role of Information Technology (IT) in enabling environmental sustainability strategy is one perspective that has not been explored in depth. Our paper addresses this gap in research. In this research paper, we propose that firms that use IT strategically to enable their environmental sustainability strategies and are able to demonstrate environmental ambidexterity are set to achieve competitive advantage, legitimacy, and reputation from their corporate ecological responsiveness initiatives. We present preliminary results from interviews that were part of our in-depth case study approach
FACEBOOK, THE SPICE OF LIFE?
Facebook is both a social and commercial entity. The large revenues generated by Facebook’s context-based advertising system ($600 million in 2009), attest to the fact that people go to Facebook not just to socialize but also to learn about new products and services. When Facebook friends discuss commercial products, Facebook is providing the social platform for a commercial context. Since Facebook has features that expose people to new products, forms of entertainment, and social settings, it provides users with a great deal of variety of experience. The findings of this study show that feelings of satiation in one’s life motivate people to seek out variety on Facebook. Facebook’s ability to mediate this variety-seeking behavior is used to explain the dual nature of Facebook usage as both a commercial and social platform
XmnI polymorphism: Relation to β-thalassemia phenotype and genotype in Egyptian Children
Background: β-Globin mutations with Xmn1 site might be associated with elevatedHbF expression which may in turn ameliorate the severity of β-thalassemia phenotype.Aim of the study: To investigate the frequency of 158 (C > T) XmnI polymorphism among Egyptian Children and young adults with β-thalassemia, to examine the relationship between XmnI polymorphism and β-thalassemia genotypes and phenotypes and to assess the possible relation of XmnI polymorphism and response to hydroxyurea (Hu) therapy.Patients and methods: Seventy-two β-thalassemia patients (37 females; M/F ratio 0.95) with a mean age of 7.53 ± 6.99 were included. Laboratory investigations included Complete blood count (CBC), Hb electrophoresis by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), β-thalassemia mutation identification by the reverse dot blot hybridization technique (RDB) and detection of XmnlGg polymorphism by RFLP.Results: The frequency of positive heterozygote XmnI gene polymorphism was 8.3%. Eightythree percent of XmnIGγ+/- patients were never transfused (p= 0.001) and had higher total hemoglobin compared to XmnIGγ-/- (p= 0.01); while mean HbF was higher among XmnIGγ+/- patients compared to the other group but the difference was marginally insignificant (p=0.06).β-Thalassemia mutation IVS II-1 showed relatively higher XmnI polymorphism frequency (50%) and followed by its frequency among 10 undefined β-thalassemia mutations which was 20%. The frequency of positive heterozygote XmnI gene polymorphism was 11.6% among the TI group vs. 3.5% among the TM group (p= 0.4). Among 20 cases who received HU; 5/14 responders vs. 1/ 6 none responder had positive heterozygote XmnI gene polymorphism (p= 1.0).Conclusions and recommendations: In conclusion, molecular determination of genetic markers in childhood will help to identify phenotypes of our patients and to avoid over or under treatment strategies. Further prospective studies concerning the genetic markers that could predict the response to hemoglobin F inducers like hydroxyurea are highly recommended
Towards a Theory of Digital Stigma and Deep Fake Video Technology Stigmatization in a Digitally Mediated Environment
As social structures and IT becomes intertwined, there is a need for new theoretical perspectives that advance understanding of this intertwinement and its implications for IT and social actors, institutions, and society. This research attempts to develop a theory that conceptualizes the role of technology in creating and manipulating stigma symbols and the subsequent consequences of the resultant symbolic interaction on the social actors, technology, and society. Understanding the changing nature of stigma due to technology is essential in understanding resulting societal manifestations and aids in the timely management of societal implications of the dark side of technology
Social Media and Citizen Social Movement Process for Political Change: The Case of 2011 Egyptian Revolution
The power and role played by social media in developing social and political movements for political changes in North Africa and the Middle East have transformed how social media viewed and used. To date, few IS studies have investigated the role of Information Systems in the context of politics. The goal of this paper is to understand the role of social media including micro-blogs and social networking sites in activism, social movement, and revolutionary political change using the 2011 Cairo Revolts as part of narrative research. Particularly, we are interested in answering the research question: What is the process by which social media influence online activism and shape social movement for revolutionary political change? We develop a process-oriented view of the case of the Egyptian revolution and fall of Mubarak and present the story of the event that occurred in 2011 as an emergent and less than predictable event
