Electron Spectral Functions of Reconstructed Quantum Hall Edges
During the reconstruction of the edge of a quantum Hall liquid, Coulomb
interaction energy is lowered through the change in the structure of the edge.
We use theory developed earlier by one of the authors [K. Yang, Phys. Rev.
Lett. 91, 036802 (2003)] to calculate the electron spectral functions of a
reconstructed edge, and study the consequences of the edge reconstruction for
the momentum-resolved tunneling into the edge. It is found that additional
excitation modes that appear after the reconstruction produce distinct features
in the energy and momentum dependence of the spectral function, which can be
used to detect the presence of edge reconstruction.Comment: RevTeX, 5 pages, 4 figures; replaced with the published version;

Slow cross-symmetry phase relaxation in complex collisions
We discuss the effect of slow phase relaxation and the spin off-diagonal
-matrix correlations on the cross section energy oscillations and the time
evolution of the highly excited intermediate systems formed in complex
collisions. Such deformed intermediate complexes with strongly overlapping
resonances can be formed in heavy ion collisions, bimolecular chemical
reactions and atomic cluster collisions. The effects of quasiperiodic energy
dependence of the cross sections, coherent rotation of the hyperdeformed
intermediate complex, Schr\"odinger cat states and
quantum-classical transition are studied for Mg+Si heavy ion
scattering.Comment: 10 pages including 2 color ps figures. To be published in Physics of

Direct X(3872) production in e+e- collisions
Direct production of the charmonium-like state in
collisions is considered in the framework of the vector meson dominance model.
An order-of-magnitude estimate for the width is found to
be 0.03 eV. The same approach applied to the charmonium
decay predicts the corresponding width of the order 0.1 eV in agreement with
earlier estimates. Experimental perspectives for the direct production of the
charmonia in collisions are briefly discussed.Comment: LaTeX2e, 11 pages, 1 figure, version published in Phys.Lett.
A Proximal Diffusion Strategy for Multi-Agent Optimization with Sparse Affine Constraints
This work develops a proximal primal-dual decentralized strategy for
multi-agent optimization problems that involve multiple coupled affine
constraints, where each constraint may involve only a subset of the agents. The
constraints are generally sparse, meaning that only a small subset of the
agents are involved in them. This scenario arises in many applications
including decentralized control formulations, resource allocation problems, and
smart grids. Traditional decentralized solutions tend to ignore the structure
of the constraints and lead to degraded performance. We instead develop a
decentralized solution that exploits the sparsity structure. Under constant
step-size learning, the asymptotic convergence of the proposed algorithm is
established in the presence of non-smooth terms, and it occurs at a linear rate
in the smooth case. We also examine how the performance of the algorithm is
influenced by the sparsity of the constraints. Simulations illustrate the
superior performance of the proposed strategy.Comment: accepted for publication in IEEE TA
