Advancements in Image Classification using Convolutional Neural Network

Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is the state-of-the-art for image classification task. Here we have briefly discussed different components of CNN. In this paper, We have explained different CNN architectures for image classification. Through this paper, we have shown advancements in CNN from LeNet-5 to latest SENet model. We have discussed the model description and training details of each model. We have also drawn a comparison among those models.Comment: 9 pages, 15 figures, 3 Tables. Enhancing Organizational Performance: An Investigation of the Impact of Employees’ Commitment

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of employee commitment on organizational performance in a paper manufacturing industry in Melaka, Malaysia.  Three components of employee commitments (Affective Commitment, Normative Commitment and Continuance Commitment) were identified as the independent variables and organizational performance as the dependent variables.  The data was collected using a survey from 150 employees of the paper manufacturing company.  Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) was used to analyze the data collected from the respondents.  Correlation and regression analysis were performed to determine the association between the dependent and independent variables.  The research findings revealed that affective and continuance commitments have effects on organizational performance while normative commitment has no significant effect on organizational performance.  These results are significant in guiding top management in deciding the actions that they can take which could have a great impact on the organization performance.  Therefore, top management could focus more on building affective commitment and continuance commitment within the organization to enhance organizational performance

HOMOGENIZATION OF A NON-PERIODIC OSCILLATING BOUNDARY VIA PERIODIC UNFOLDING

    Get PDF
This paper deals with the homogenization of an elliptic model problem in a two-dimensional domain with non-periodic oscillating boundary by the method of periodic unfolding. For the non-periodic oscillations, a modulated unfolding is used. The L-2 convergence of the solutions and their fluxes are shown, under natural hypotheses on the domain

Implementation, use and analysis of open source learning management system “Moodle” and e-learning for the deaf in Jordan

    Get PDF
When learning mathematics, deaf children of primary school age experience difficulties due to their disability. In Jordan, little research has been undertaken to understand the problems facing deaf children and their teachers. Frequently, children are educated in special schools for the deaf; the majority of deaf children tend not to be integrated into mainstream education although efforts are made to incorporate them into the system. Teachers in the main stream education system rarely have knowledge and experience to enable deaf students to reach their full potential. The methodological approach used in this research is a mixed one consisting of action research and Human Computer interaction (HCI) research. The target group was deaf children aged nine years (at the third grade) and their teachers in Jordanian schools. Mathematics was chosen as the main focus of this study because it is a universal subject with its own concepts and rules and at this level the teachers in the school have sufficient knowledge and experience to teach mathematics topics competently. In order to obtain a better understanding of the problems faced by teachers and the deaf children in learning mathematics, semi-structured interviews were undertaken and questionnaires distributed to teachers. The main aim at that stage of research was to explore the current use and status of the e-learning environment and LMS within the Jordanian schools for the deaf in Jordan. In later stages of this research, semi-structured interviews and questionnaires were used again to ascertain the effectiveness, usability and readiness of the adopted e-learning environment “Moodle. Finally pre-tests and post-tests used to assess the effectiveness of the e-learning environment and LMS. It is important to note that it was not intended to work with the children directly but were used as test subjects. Based on the requirements and recommendations of the teachers of the deaf, a key requirements scheme was developed. Four open source e-learning environments and LMS evaluated against the developed key requirements. The evaluation was based on a software engineering approache. The outcome of that evaluation was the adoption of an open source e-learning environment and LMS called “Moodle”. Moodle was presented to the teachers for the purpose of testing it. It was found it is the most suitable e-learning environment and LMS to be adapted for use by deaf children in Jordan based on the teachers requirements. Then Moodle was presented to the deaf children’s to use during this research. After use, the activities of the deaf and their teachers were used and analysed in terms of Human Computer Interaction (HCI) analysis. The analysis includes the readiness, usability, user satisfaction, ease of use, learnability, outcome/future use, content, collaboration & communication tools and functionality

Islamic Law and Sustainable Development Goals

This study aims to analyze Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) prescribed by United Nations Development Program (UNDP) under Islamic Law. This paper is qualitative method of research analyzing SDGs under verses of Holy Qur'an and traditions of Prophet Muhammad ï·ș. This study found that what SDGs ask member states to do has been prescribed in Holy Qur'an and Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ï·ș way back 1400 years ago and demanded by Almighty Allah and the last Prophet Muhammad ï·ș for eradication of poverty, hunger, malnutrition etc. Islamic law prohibits usury, gambling, uncertainty and other illegal activities to protect poor people of the society against rich landlords. Therefore, member states are required to follow SDGs to achieve peace, harmony and economic growth for betterment of humanity which is also a duty under verses of Holy Qur'an and traditions of Prophet Muhammad ï·ș to achieve success in this world and in the hereafter

Development of a double-pole double-throw radio frequency micro electro-mechanical systems switch using an ‘S’ shaped pivot

    Get PDF
This paper investigates the design of a novel pivot for a seesaw, RF MEMS, double-pole double-throw (DPDT) switch, which has been developed to operate within mobile communication systems and devices. The pivot employs a unique ‘S’ structure at the nano scale, in the form of a, which helps to keep von-Mises stresses below 21 MPa. The pivot requires less pulling force than similar designs due to its flexibility which allows the beam and contacts a greater space of separation while the switch is off. This in turn results in improved contact isolation of greater than −77 dB at 5 GHz. The RF MEMS switch is an improvement over the previously published paper (Al-Amin et al. in International symposium on microelectronics, vol 2013, no 1, pp 000831–000835, 2013. doi:10.1109/ECS.2014.6892558), since the pulling force of the electrostatic plates can be generated with a voltage which is greatly reduced from 14 to 8 V using the same electrostatic plate area size. The switch is a progression from SPST and DPDT seesaw switching since it provides improved flexibility over the previously described devices. With the redesign of the pivot the switch attains a greater ‘air-gap’ between the contacts when open-circuited which therefore allows for improved isolation during the off-state

A roadmap towards the smart factory

    Get PDF
Industry 4.0 is the transformation of industrial manufacturing through digitisation and the use of different emerging technological advancement, when coupled together forms the smart factory. However, the roadmap of adoption is a journey rather than an absolute solution. The objectives of this paper are to give general insights and a roadmap towards the smart factory. A six-gear roadmap concept is proposed and discussed together with different challenges and practical ways of overcoming them. The significance of this paper can serve as a steppingstone for a detailed strategic roadmap for a successful implementation and transformation into a smart factory
