Second moment of the Husimi distribution as a measure of complexity of quantum states
We propose the second moment of the Husimi distribution as a measure of
complexity of quantum states. The inverse of this quantity represents the
effective volume in phase space occupied by the Husimi distribution, and has a
good correspondence with chaoticity of classical system. Its properties are
similar to the classical entropy proposed by Wehrl, but it is much easier to
calculate numerically. We calculate this quantity in the quartic oscillator
model, and show that it works well as a measure of chaoticity of quantum

Optics Correction in the LHC
Optics correction in the LHC is challenged by the tight aperture constrains and the demand of a highly performing BPM system. To guarantee that the LHC optics remains within a maximum allowable beta-beating of 20% several methods are being investigated through computer simulations and experiments at existing hadron machines. A software package to consolidate the implementation of the various techniques during LHC operation is underway (or nearing completion)
Expression, but lack of calcium mobilization by high-affinity IgE Fcε receptor I on human epidermal and dermal Langerhans cells
: In atopic dermatitis (AD) patients, IgE molecules are demonstrated on the surface of Langerhans cells (LC). FcεRI molecules, which are present on the surface of LC in AD patients as well as normal individuals, are responsible for this binding. In this study, we have investigated phenotypic and functional characteristics of FcεRI on epidermal and dermal cell populations. Epidermal and dermal cell suspensions were prepared enzymatically with dispase followed by either trypsin or collagenase treatment, respectively. Peripheral blood basophils were negatively selected by excluding other leukocytes with surface marker staining. Consistent with previous reports, both peripheral blood basophils and epidermal LC were positively stained with anti FcεRI monoclonal antibody. In addition, an FcεRI positive population was demon-strated among dermal HLA-DR positive cells. These cells express significant amounts of HLA-DR molecules (DR Hi ) and co-express CD la molecules, which identifies them as LC-like dendritie APC of the dermis. No other FcεRI positive population was found in the other dermal DR Mid or DR populations, except for a minor DR lo population, presumably mast cells. To analyze whether these FcεRI molecules are signal transducing for LC, intracellular calcium mobilization after crosslinking of FcεRI was measured with How cytometry. Following crosslinking, peripheral blood basophils clearly increased intracellular calcium. On the other hand, neither normal epidermal LC nor dermal DR Hi CD Ia + cells changed their intracellular calcium level after FcεRI crosslinking. Fine structure of the isoscalar giant quadrupole resonance in 40Ca due to Landau damping?
The fragmentation of the Isoscalar Giant Quadrupole Resonance (ISGQR) in 40Ca
has been investigated in high energy-resolution experiments using proton
inelastic scattering at E_p = 200 MeV. Fine structure is observed in the region
of the ISGQR and its characteristic energy scales are extracted from the
experimental data by means of a wavelet analysis. The experimental scales are
well described by Random Phase Approximation (RPA) and second-RPA calculations
with an effective interaction derived from a realistic nucleon-nucleon
interaction by the Unitary Correlation Operator Method (UCOM). In these results
characteristic scales are already present at the mean-field level pointing to
their origination in Landau damping, in contrast to the findings in heavier
nuclei and also to SRPA calculations for 40Ca based on phenomenological
effective interactions, where fine structure is explained by the coupling to
two-particle two-hole (2p-2h) states.Comment: Phys. Lett. B, in pres

Fluctuation properties of strength functions associated with giant resonances
We performed fluctuation analysis by means of the local scaling dimension for
the strength function of the isoscalar (IS) and the isovector (IV) giant
quadrupole resonances (GQR) in Ca, where the strength functions are
obtained by the shell model calculation within up to the 2p2h configurations.
It is found that at small energy scale, fluctuation of the strength function
almost obeys the Gaussian orthogonal ensemble (GOE) random matrix theory limit.
On the other hand, we found a deviation from the GOE limit at the intermediate
energy scale about 1.7MeV for the IS and at 0.9MeV for the IV. The results
imply that different types of fluctuations coexist at different energy scales.
Detailed analysis strongly suggests that GOE fluctuation at small energy scale
is due to the complicated nature of 2p2h states and that fluctuation at the
intermediate energy scale is associated with the spreading width of the
Tamm-Dancoff 1p1h states.Comment: 14 pages including 13figure
