Effect of motion smoothness on brain activity while observing a dance: An fmri study using a humanoid robot

Motion smoothness is critical in transmitting implicit information of body action, such as aesthetic qualities in dance performances. We expected that the perception of motion smoothness would be characterized by great intersubject variability deriving from differences in personal backgrounds and attitudes toward expressive body actions. We used functional magnetic resonance imaging and a humanoid robot to investigate the effects of the motion smoothness of expressive body actions and the intersubject variability due to personal attitudes on perceptions during dance observation. The effect of motion smoothness was analyzed by both conventional subtraction analysis and functional connectivity analyses that detect cortical networks reflecting intersubject variability. The results showed that the cortical networks of motion- and body-sensitive visual areas showed increases in activity in areas corresponding with motion smoothness, but the intersubject variability of personal attitudes toward art did not influence these active areas. In contrast, activation of cortical networks, including the parieto-frontal network, has large intersubject variability, and this variability is associated with personal attitudes about the consciousness of art. Thus, our results suggest that activity in the cortical network involved in understanding action is influenced by personal attitudes about the consciousness of art during observations of expressive body actions

エネルギー貧困の健康への影響に関する実証的な洞察: ベトナムの事例

本研究は、エネルギー貧困が入院率に及ぼす影響を、2016年ベトナム生活水準調査（VHLSS）のデータを用いて分析する。 潜在的な内生性の問題を軽減するために、情報通信技術（ICT）インフラの発展を操作変数とした2段階最小二乗（2SLS）回帰を適用する。 分析の結果、エネルギー貧困は入院率を有意に増加させることが示された。 また、一連の頑健性検証を行い、結果の安定性を確認した。 さらに、エネルギー貧困とベトナムにおける健康への影響の関係は、生活習慣上のリスク行動や世帯の生活環境によって媒介されることが明らかになった。This research investigates the impact of energy poverty on hospitalization rates using data from the 2016 Vietnam Household Living Standard Survey. To mitigate potential endogeneity concerns, a two-stage least squares regression is applied, leveraging the expansion of information and communications technology infrastructure as an instrumental variable. The findings indicate that energy poverty significantly increases hospitalization admissions. Additionally, a series of robustness tests confirm the stability of these results. Further analysis reveals that the relationship between energy poverty and health outcomes in Vietnam is influenced by lifestyle risk behaviors and household living conditions.research repor

市場に齟齬をきたす,すなわち需要と供給の不一致をもたらす要因として,価格の一時的非弾力性,需要の不確実性,そして,生産ラグが指摘されてきたごとくである。生産ラグのうち,とりわけ,引渡しラグ,すなわち,商品の発注と納入の間の時間差の存在は,それが価格に反映されるところでは,時間差のばらつきは価格のばらつきを意味し,それは,価格変動を嫌う消費者ないし需要者にとって商品の有効性自体の低下と同義となる。 しかるに,資本財に関する引渡しラグは,資本設備の発注,その納入,設置,さらに操作等に関する労働者の教育を経て稼動化され,資本として生産に寄与し始めるまでの時間差を表わし,資本財市場の際立った特徴を構成する。かかる資本財に関する引渡しラグについては,生産現場の経験を経た実証作業の蓄積が先行し,1970年代に入って漸く理論的対応が試みられるに至った。 以下では,引渡しラグを含む問題の動学性を考慮し,ラグをともなう制御変数をもつ最適化問題に対する最適制御の手法の適用可能性をまず確認する。 次いで,引渡しラグに直面する企業の資本財に対する投資決定に際し,投資計画作成にともなう計画費用と設置,教育にともなう設置費用とから成る投資の調整費用の概念を導入し,一定のラグ期間の下での投資,資本ストックの最適時間経路を導く。 最後に,上の均衡時間経路が定常解に収束する鞍点安定性をもつことが確かめられる。さらに,ラグ期間をパラメータとみなすとき,ラグの拡大は定常解を中心として均衡時間経路を反時計周りに回転させることが確かめられる。また,ラグの拡大が均衡体系の定常解にHopf 分岐をもたらす可能性が例示される。departmental bulletin pape

Empowering Women Through ICT: Enhancing Employment Opportunities in Vietnam

This research examines the impact of ICT development on female labor market outcomes in Vietnam, drawing insights from four waves of the nationally representative Vietnam Household Living Standard Surveys panning from 2012 to 2018. By capitalizing on the variance in ICT development levels among provinces as an exogenous factor, fixed effects models are employed to analyze the data. Our findings underscore that a 10 percent enhancement in ICT accessibility correlates with a notable increase in contract job opportunities, particularly benefiting married women, low-educated married women, and married women from minority ethnic backgrounds. These results affirm the positive role of ICT development in bolstering the local labor market and facilitating improved job matching for vulnerable women across Vietnam.research repor

Urbanization and Health Expenditure: An Empirical Investigation from Households in Vietnam

This study examines the effects of urbanization on household health expenditure. Using a unique bi-annually household-level dataset from 2012 – 2018 from Vietnam, we obtain key findings as follows. First, urbanization significantly reduces Vietnamese households’ inpatient and outpatient health expenses. Second, the self-treatment expenses of households increase as the process of urbanization advances. Our results survive several robustness checks. Furthermore, we propose different ways to explain these results, including health insurance expenses and household income.working pape
