    A multidimensional approach to the environment for entrepreneurship in selected CE countries

    Nations around the world are bent on creating an efficient and inclusive socio-economic environment and ethos for enterprises and business. The aim is to create a business setting and system of innovation in which standard macroeconomic policies are more effective and increase private sector development and economic growth. The research and innovation system in Central Europe (CE) has not been studied in sufficient depth, at either the theoretical or empirical level. Apart from their similar pattern of transition from planned to mixed economy, the national research and innovation systems of the selected countries evolved into rather diverse systems in terms of their size, enterprise composition, research intensity and structural configuration. The countries’ economic profiles play a crucial role in their integration with the EU and their global competiveness. The economic structure, level of research, technological development, human resources in science and technology (HRST), innovation, and SME competitiveness clearly testify to the diverse level of the region's economic competitiveness. The aim of this article is to describe the differences among selected Central European countries in order to demonstrate that efforts to build a single European innovation system are still far from complete. Selected composite indices such as the Global Innovation Index (GII), the Networked Readiness Index (NRI), and the Global Enabling Trade Index (ETI) show that countries in Central Europe need improvements in terms of competitiveness, innovation and technology development. Economies’ performance as regards the environment for entrepreneurs was also analysed based on several composite indices with sufficient complexity to capture the multidimensional nature of entrepreneurship. The article concludes that an efficient use of European structural and investment funds (ESIF) and the application of smart specialisation strategies are promising mechanisms for European integration processes

    Multichannel Anomaly of the Resonance Pole Parameters Resolved

    Inspired by anomalies which the standard scattering matrix pole-extraction procedures have produced in a mathematically well defined coupled-channel model, we have developed a new method based solely on the assumption of partial-wave analyticity. The new method is simple and applicable not only to theoretical predictions but to the empirical partial-wave data as well. Since the standard pole-extraction procedures turn out to be the lowest-order term of the proposed method the anomalies are understood and resolved.Comment: 5 page

    Innovation in central Europe

    The chapter discusses opportunities, needs and challenges of innovation development of the selected Central European transition countries with the aim to shed some additional light on institutions and policies that affect the level of innovation dynamics and competiveness. The analysis is based on the statistical indicators and systemic approach to describe the current level of innovation capacities and factors for their improvements. The information presented covers three areas: (1) national policies on innovation in the Czech Republic, Croatia, Hungary, Poland and Slovenia; (2) institutional responses and progress achieved by individual universities, research labs, university-based science and innovation centers, accelerators and incubators; and (3) firm-level innovation: products, services, processes, and business models which exemplify the implementation of the new innovation paradigm. Prezi, Ravimed, Rimac Automobili, Invea-tech and GEA cases are presented to show how the new paradigm generated innovation, sophisticated solutions, and ideas which have opened up new markets or solved long-standing business problems

    The detailed mechanism of the eta production in pp scattering up to the Tlab = 4.5 GeV

    Contrary to very early beliefs, the experimental cross section data for the eta production in proton-proton scattering are well described if pi and only eta meson exchange diagrams are used to calculate the Born term. The inclusion of initial and final state interactions is done in the factorization approximation by using the inverse square of the Jost function. The two body Jost functions are obtained from the S matrices in the low energy effective range approximation. The danger of double counting in the p-eta final state interaction is discussed. It is shown that higher partial waves in meson-nucleon amplitudes do not contribute significantly bellow excess energy of Q=100 MeV.     Strong evidence for nucleon resonances near 1900 MeV

    Data on the reaction γp → KþΛ from the CLAS experiments are used to derive the leading multipoles, E0þ, M1−, E1þ, and M1þ, from the production threshold to 2180 MeV in 24 slices of the invariant mass. The four multipoles are determined without any constraints. The multipoles are fitted using a multichannel L þ P model that allows us to search for singularities and to extract the positions of poles on the complex energy plane in an almost model-independent method. The multipoles are also used as additional constraints in an energy-dependent analysis of a large body of pion and photoinduced reactions within the Bonn-Gatchina partial wave analysis. The study confirms the existence of poles due to nucleon resonances with spin parity JP ¼ 1=2−, 1=2þ, and 3=2þ in the region at about 1.9 Ge

    N∗ resonances from KΛ amplitudes in sliced bins in energy

    The two reactions γp→K+Λγp→K+Λ and π−p→K0Λπ−p→K0Λ are analyzed to determine the leading photoproduction multipoles and the pion-induced partial wave amplitudes in slices of the invariant mass. The multipoles and the partial-wave amplitudes are simultaneously fitted in a multichannel Laurent+Pietarinen model (L+P model), which determines the poles in the complex energy plane on the second Riemann sheet close to the physical axes. The results from the L+P fit are compared with the results of an energy-dependent fit based on the Bonn-Gatchina (BnGa) approach. The study confirms the existence of several poles due to nucleon resonances in the region at about 1.9 GeV with quantum numbers JP=1/2+,3/2+,1/2−,3/2−,5/2−JP=1/2+,3/2+,1/2−,3/2−,5/2−

    Evidence for the fourth P11 resonance predicted by the constituent quark model

    It is pointed out that the third of five low-lying P11 states predicted by a constituent quark model can be identified with the third of four states in a solution from a three-channel analysis by the Zagreb group. This is one of the so-called ``missing'' resonances, predicted at 1880 MeV. The fit of the Zagreb group to the pi N -> eta N data is the crucial element in finding this fourth resonance in the P11 partial wave.Comment: 8 pages, revtex; expanded acknowledgement

    Induced pseudoscalar coupling of the proton weak interaction

    The induced pseudoscalar coupling gpg_p is the least well known of the weak coupling constants of the proton's charged--current interaction. Its size is dictated by chiral symmetry arguments, and its measurement represents an important test of quantum chromodynamics at low energies. During the past decade a large body of new data relevant to the coupling gpg_p has been accumulated. This data includes measurements of radiative and non radiative muon capture on targets ranging from hydrogen and few--nucleon systems to complex nuclei. Herein the authors review the theoretical underpinnings of gpg_p, the experimental studies of gpg_p, and the procedures and uncertainties in extracting the coupling from data.
