Nutritional habits affect performance directly or indirectly in weight class included sports. The aim of this study was to compare the dietary habits of elite female and male weightlifters. After getting official records of athletes from Turkish Weightlifting Federation, a survey was conducted on several factors of the athletes such as weight class, education level, national and international success, income level, weight reduction condition, whether the athlete has knowledge about nutrition, fluid intake, dietary approach before competitions, and type of ergogenic usage. The correlation analyses were completed to determine the relationship between the groups. One-way ANOVA was used to compare the groups. Fischer’s exact tests were calculated again to compare the dietary preferences between different groups. Results of this study showed that lower income, weight category, lower age and level of education of male weightlifters negatively affect the performance. Male weightlifters underestimate the importance of fluid intake and they consumed different types of diets. The use of ergogenic products in female weightlifters was differentiated according to their education levels, weight classes and the competition category. Again, the international female weightlifters consumed more ergogenic substance than national level weightlifters. Both male and female weightlifters showed no significant correlations between the performance variables and all other conditions. It can be suggested that the socio-economic status and education level related to sport nutrition in weightlifters should be increased for enhancing of the weightlifting performance

The purpose of this study investigation of the effect of sport training and education on Q angle in young males and females. The Quadriceps Q angles of 240 female and 600 male subject were measured in both supine and standing positions by goniometer. It was used t-tests for statistical analyses. In this study, the average age was found to be 19.16 for women and 21.120 for men. The vast majority of participants are in the 17-22 age range. In this study, was found the mean Q angle of female and male subjects at supine position 15.710 and 13.020. On the other hand Q angle of female and male subjects at standing position were 17.050 and 14.040 respectively. The difference between mean Q angle of female and male subject was statistically significant (p0.05). Finally, the mean dominant knee Q angle of young females and males seemed to be in normal range. The high value of the knee Q angle of the dominant leg should be considered to be greater than 17 for males and 20 for females. The effect of physical activity on Q-angle should be investigated more extensively. It is thought that sport education has a decreasing effect on Q angle

<p>This study investigates the Optimal Performance Mood State in sedentary women according to their behavioral change stages, perception of their health and appearance, and menstrual status. 774 sedentary women participated in the study. One-way analysis of variance was performed in statistical procedures. According to the behavioral change stages, a statistically significant change was found in the dimensions of task difficulty, awareness in action, clear goals, secondary notification, focus on the task, sense of control, transformation of time and experience of achieving the goal, and decrease in awareness subscales in optimal performance emotional state (p<0.001). When comparing the optimal performance mood and sub-dimension averages of sedentary women according to the "your health" variable, a statistically significant difference was found in all dimensions (p<0.05 and p<0.001). When comparing the optimal performance mood and sub-dimension averages of sedentary women according to the variable of your physical image relative to yourself, a statistically significant difference was found in all dimensions except decreased awareness (p<0.001). Conclusion: It was concluded that Optimal Performance Mood in sedentary women varies according to the stages of behavioral change and their perception of their health and appearance. As the exercise status of sedentary women increases, their optimal performance mood improves positively as they perceive their health as good and accept their appearance as good. Women should be encouraged to do sports regularly to improve their optimal performance mood, receive psychological support to perceive their health as good and encourage their desire to look beautiful. It may also be recommended that women receive support for regular menstruation to increase their optimal performance mood.</p&gt

In the current work, our target was to screen inhibitory potentials of 55 Turkish Salvia taxa, 28 of which are endemic, against acetylcholinesterase (AChE), which is a chief enzyme in pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, and methanol extracts prepared from 55 Salvia taxa were tested for their AChE inhibitory activity at 25, 50, and 100 mu g/ml using an ELISA microplate reader. The extracts were also screened for their scavenging effect against DPPH radical and iron-chelating capacity. Total phenol and total flavonoid contents of Salvia fruticosa were determined. Among the 165 Salvia extracts screened, only the dichloromethane extract of S. fruticosa showed inhibition towards AChE at 100 mu g/ml having 51.07% of inhibition, while only the dichloromethane and ethyl acetate extracts of Salvia cilicica had a notable iron-chelating capacity at 100 mu g/ml having 54.71% of chelating capacity. Most of the extracts showed remarkable scavenging effect against DPPH radical

In European folk medicine, Salvia species have traditionally been used to enhance memory. In our previous study of 55 Salvia taxa, we explored significant anticholinesterase activity of cultivated S. fruticosa. In this study, we compared the inhibitory activity of dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, and ethanol extracts of 3 wild-grown samples and 1 cultivated sample of S. fruticosa against acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase enzymes (which are associated with pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease) by using the spectrophotometric Ellman method. Antioxidant activities were assessed by determining 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical-scavenging activity, iron-chelating capacity, and ferric-reducing antioxidant power. The dichloromethane extract of the cultivated sample was then subjected to fractionation by using open column chromatography and medium-pressure liquid chromatography to obtain the most active fraction by activity-guided fractionation. All fractions and subfractions were tested in the same manner, and inactive subfractions were discarded. The essential oil of the cultivated sample was analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry

Aims: The addition of aflibercept to the fluorouracil and irinotecan (FOLFIRI) regimen significantly improved clinical outcomes in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (CRC) previously treated with oxaliplatin. We aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of second-line FOLFIRI and aflibercept combination in patients with metastatic CRC in real-life experience. Materials and Methods: Four hundred and thirty-three patients who treated with FOLFIRI and aflibercept in the second-line were included in the study. The clinical and pathological features of the patients were recorded retrospectively. Survival (overall and progression-free survival [PFS]), response rates, and safety data were analyzed. Results: The median age was 61. Majority of patients (87.5%) received first-line bevacizumab and 10.1% of patients received anti-epidermal growth factor receptor agents. About 80% of patients had KRAS, 18.6% of patients had NRAS, and 6.4% of patients had BRAF mutations. The median OS was 11.6 months (95% confidence interval [CI], 10.6-12.6) and the median PFS was 6 months (95% CI, 5.5-6.5). About 4.6% of patients had complete response and 30.6% of patients had partial response as best tumor response. Grade 1-2 toxicities were seen in 33.4% of patients, while grade 3-4 toxicities were recorded in 27% of patients. Eight patients (2%) died due to treatment toxicity. Conclusions: Overall and PFS were similar in routine clinical practice compared to phase III pivotal VELOUR trial. However, response rates were found to be higher. It was observed that there were fewer adverse events compared to the VELOUR trial
