Responding to Cross Border Child Trafficking in South Asia: An Analysis of the Feasibility of a Technologically Enabled Missing Child Alert System
This report examines the feasibility of a technologically enabled system to help respond to the phenomenon of cross-border child trafficking in South Asia, and makes recommendations on how to proceed with a pilot project in the selected areas of Bangladesh, Nepal and India. The study was commissioned by the Missing Child Alert (MCA) programme which is an initiative led by Plan. MCA is an initiative to address cross-border child trafficking in South Asia, led by Plan. The aim of the programme is to link existing institutions, mechanisms and resources in order to tackle the phenomenon from a regional perspective. To achieve this, Plan propose to implement a technologically equipped, institutionalised system of alert that can assist in the rescue, rehabilitation, repatriation and reintegration of children who are at risk of, or are victims of, cross-border trafficking

Topological mechanochemistry of graphene
In view of a formal topology, two common terms, namely, connectivity and
adjacency, determine the quality of C-C bonds of sp2 nanocarbons. The feature
is the most sensitive point of the inherent topology of the species so that
such external action as mechanical deformation should obviously change it and
result in particular topological effects. The current paper describes the
effects caused by uniaxial tension of a graphene molecule in due course of a
mechanochemical reaction. Basing on the molecular theory of graphene, the
effects are attributed to both mechanical loading and chemical modification of
edge atoms of the molecule. The mechanical behavior is shown to be not only
highly anisotropic with respect to the direction of the load application, but
greatly dependent on the chemical modification of the molecule edge atoms thus

Molecular cloning and characterization of B-cadherin, a novel chick cadherin.
Calcium-dependent cell-cell adhesion is mediated in large part by a set of homologous integral membrane glycoproteins termed cadherins. In this report, antibodies to conserved domains in previously described cadherins have been used to isolate cDNAs encoding a novel chick cadherin. The deduced primary structure of this novel molecule, assigned the name B-cadherin, contains 726 amino acid residues which include five extracellular domains characteristic of this class of adhesion molecules, a single putative transmembrane spanning region, and a cytoplasmic tail. In each domain, B-cadherin shares extensive homologies with other cadherins, but is more closely related to E-cadherin, P-cadherin, and L-CAM than to N-cadherin. It is expressed in a wide variety of chick tissues at embryonic day 13. In particular, immunohistochemical staining and in situ hybridization localize B-cadherin protein and mRNA to the epithelial lining of the choroid plexus and to cells in specific layers of the optic tectum in chick brain. Levels of the protein and RNA transcript change dramatically as development proceeds in chick brain. These results suggest that B-cadherin has important functions in neurogenesis, in at least some epithelia, and in embryogenesis

The Real Estate Investment Trust: State Law Problems
We present a map of the three-dimensional (3D) distribution of dust in the Orion complex. Orion is the closest site of high-mass star formation, making it an excellent laboratory for studying the interstellar medium and star formation. We used data from the Gaia-TGAS catalogue combined with photometry from 2MASS and WISE to get the distances and extinctions of individual stars in the vicinity of the Orion complex. We use a Gaussian process and adopt a non-parametric method to infer the probability distribution function of the dust densities at arbitrary points throughout the region. We map the dust distribution towards different parts of the Orion complex. We find that the distance and depth of the cloud are compatible with other recent works, which show that the method can be applicable to local molecular clouds to map their 3D dust distribution. We also demonstrate the danger of only using colours of stars to derive their extinctions without considering further physical constraints, such as the colour-magnitude diagram (CMD)
Population structures in the SARA and SARB reference collections of Salmonella enterica according to MLST, MLEE and microarray hybridization
In the 1980's and 1990's, population genetic analyses based on Multilocus Enzyme Electrophoresis (MLEE) provided an initial overview of the genetic diversity of multiple bacterial species, including Salmonella enterica. The genetic diversity within S. enterica subspecies enterica according to MLEE is represented by the SARA and SARB reference collections, each consisting of 72 isolates, which have been extensively used for comparative analyses. MLEE has subsequently been replaced by Multilocus Sequence Typing (MLST). Our initial MLST results indicated that some strains within the SARB collection differed from their published descriptions. We therefore performed MLST on four versions of the SARB collection from different sources and one collection of SARA, and found that multiple isolates in SARB and SARA differ in serovar from their original description, and other SARB isolates differed between different sources. Comparisons with a global MLST database allowed a plausible reconstruction of the serovars of the original collection. MLEE, MLST and microarrays were largely concordant at recognizing closely related strains. MLST was particularly effective at recognizing discrete population genetic groupings while the two other methods provided hints of higher order relationships. However, quantitative pair-wise phylogenetic distances differed considerably between all three methods. Our results provide a translation dictionary from MLEE to MLST for the extant SARA and SARB collections which can facilitate genomic comparisons based on archival insights from MLEE
