Preloadable vector sensitive latch

A preloadable vector-sensitive latch which automatically releases when the force vector from a latch memebr reaches a specified release angle is presented. In addition, it contains means to remove clearance between the latched members and to preload the latch to prevent separation at angles less than the specified release angle. The latch comprises a triangular main link, a free link connected between a first corner of the main link and a yoke member, a housing, and an actuator connected between the yoke member and the housing. A return spring bias means connects the main link to a portion of the housing. A second corner of the main link is slidably and pivotally connected to the housing via a slot in a web portion of the housing. The latch housing has a rigid docking ring alignable with a mating locking ring which is engageable by a locking roller journalled on the third corner of the triangular main link

Retrospective study of the correlation of serum potassium concentrations and the findings of heart auscultation in calves with neonatal diarrhea

A retrospective study was conducted of clinical records of calves with neonatal diarrhea up to the age of 14 days concerning certain aspects of blood potassium concentration and heart rate and rhythm. No correlation could be found between heart rates and serum potassium concentrations. Bradycardia was no indicator of hyperkalemia, nor could hyperkalemia be ruled out in animals with tachycardia. Cardiac arrhythmias were not associated with pronounced kyperkalemia, and did not indicate a poor prognosis. It was concluded that, at least in clinical cases of neonatal calf diarrhea, heart rate and rhythm are subject to complex influences and yield no information on the actual serum potassium concentration in a particular animal

Developing 2015 High-Resolution Impervious Cover Estimates for the 52 Towns in the Piscataqua Region Estuaries Partnership: Final Report

Estimates of 2015 impervious cover (IC) for the 52 towns of the Piscataqua Region Estuaries Partnership (PREP) were generated from 2015 1-foot imagery (for the 42 towns in NH) and 2015 1-meter NAIP imagery (for the 10 towns in Maine). The 2015 IC mapping updated previous high resolution mapping developed from 2010 (New Hampshire) and 2011 (Maine) orthophotography for the study area. Impervious features covered 32,462 acres (5.8% of the land area) in the New Hampshire towns and 13,295 acres (5.3% of the land area) in the Maine towns, with a total of 46,634 (5.6% of the land area) acres mapped in the entire study area. The towns with the highest percent impervious cover in 2015 were in New Hampshire, and included Portsmouth (26.7%), New Castle (20.0%), and Seabrook (20.0%). The largest increases in IC between 2010 and 2015 occurred in Rochester, NH (122 acres), Wells, ME (64 acres), and Seabrook, NH (64 acres). Minimal amounts of IC increases occurred in most towns, with the least amounts in Madbury, NH (4 acres), New Castle, NH (2 acres), and Brookfield, NH (2 acres)

Forty Acres and Unfulfilled Promises

As part of the English 101.003 Writing Seminar taught by Dr. Anne Porter in Fall 2015 at Providence College, this essay was written in response to an assignment to articulate a central question about slavery reparations. The essay explores the question from various angles and makes reference to Justice: What’s the Right Thing to Do? by Michael J. Sandel, “The Case for Reparations” from The Atlantic (June 2014) by Ta-Nehisi Coates, as well as at least one additional, scholarly source. The essay is written for college-age readers, who are interested in the issue and asking the same questions. Abstract: In response to escalating racial tensions in American society, this essay analyzes the feasibility of reparations for racial injustices. As evidenced by historic orders like ³Forty Acres and a Mule², the government has failed to fulfill its promises to pay, only further perpetuating inequality. There is controversy as to whether reparations are still due and how they can be quantified. This essay evaluates the present-day value of these historic unfulfilled promises and assesses if this valuation could be used as a solution to the reparations debate. If America is able to quantify the value of reparations, the question remains whether it is the duty of modern-day American citizens to right the wrongs of the past

Conserving the Pawtuckaway River Focus Area and Kennard Hill Focus Area : Final Report

The Piscataqua Region Estuaries Partnership provided $8,000 to support the Southeast Land Trust of New Hampshire’s land conservation work within the Pawtuckaway River and Kennard Hill Focus Areas, two areas identified by the Land Conservation Plan for New Hampshire’s Coastal Watershed. Through this grant, the Southeast Land Trust has: permanently conserved two parcels totaling 90.55 acres within the Pawtuckaway River Focus Area; entered into four agreements to acquire and conserve 221.4 acres within the Pawtuckaway River Focus Area and 190 acres within the Kennard Hill Focus Area; and facilitated, through the Wetlands Reserve Program, the protection of 60 acres within the supporting landscape of the Kennard Hill Focus Area and Pawtuckaway River Focus Area. In total, more than 560 acres will be conserved upon the completion of all of these projects

Investigations using data from LANDSAT-2

The author has identified the following significant results. New lands for forestation were set aside in the coastal area of Bangladesh, based on LANDSAT mosaics (Chittagong - 195,000 acres, Noakhali - 450,000 acres, Barisal - 360,000 acres, and Patuakhali - 225,000 acres). LANDSAT imageries were used for identification of drainage patterns in both the old and and new Comilla district
