The disturbances can be of narrow band type (simple or multiple) or of broad band type. A model can be associated to these disturbances. The knowledge of this model allows to design an appropriate control system in order to attenuate (or to reject) their effect upon the system to be controlled. The attenuation of disturbances by feedback is limited by the Bode Integral and the "water bed" effect upon the output sensitivity function. In such situations the feedback approach has to be complemented by a "feedforward disturbance compensation" requiring an additional transducer for getting information upon the disturbance. Unfortunately in most of the situations the disturbances are unknown and time-varying and therefore an adaptive approach should be considered. The generic term for adaptive attenuation of unknown and timevarying disturbances is "adaptive regulation" (known plant model, unknown and time-varying disturbance model). The paper reviews a number of recent developments for adaptive feedback compensation of multiple unknown and timevarying narrowband disturbances presented at ECC13, Zurich (benchmark on adaptive regulation). Il also reviews recent developments in adaptive feedforward compensation of broad band disturbances in the presence of the inherent internal positive feedback caused by the coupling between the compensator system and the measurement of the image of the disturbance. Experimental results obtained on a relevant active vibration control system will illustrate the performance of the various algorithms presented. Some open research problems will be mentioned in the conclusion

    Advances in Youla-Kucera parametrization: A Review

    International audienceYoula-Kucera (YK) parametrization was formulated decades ago for obtaining the set of controllers stabilizing a linear plant. This fundamental result of control theory has been used to develop theoretical tools solving many control problems ranging from stable controller switching, closed-loop identification, robust control, disturbance rejection, adaptive control to fault tolerant control.This paper collects the recent work and classifies the maccording to the use of YK parametrization, Dual YK parametrization or both, providing the latest advances with main applications indifferent control fields. A final discussion gives some insights on the future trends in the field

    Commande robuste et calibrage des systèmes de contrôle actif de vibrations

    Dans cette thèse, nous présentons des solutions pour la conception des systèmes de contrôle actif de vibrations. Dans la première partie, des méthodes de contrôle par action anticipatrice (feedforward) sont développées. Celles-ci sont dédiées à la suppression des perturbations bande large en utilisant une image de la perturbation mesurée par un deuxième capteur, en amont de la variable de performance à minimiser. Les algorithmes présentés dans cette mémoire sont conçus pour réaliser de bonnes performances et maintenir la stabilité du système en présence du couplage positif interne qui apparaît entre le signal de commande et l'image de la perturbation. Les principales contributions de cette partie sont l'assouplissement de la condition de Stricte Positivité Réelle (SPR) par l'utilisation des algorithmes d'adaptation Intégrale + Proportionnelle et le développement de compensateurs à action anticipatrice (feedforward) sur la base de la paramétrisation Youla-Kučera. La deuxième partie de la thèse concerne le rejet des perturbations bande étroite par contre-réaction adaptative (feedback). Une méthode d'adaptation indirecte est proposée pour le rejet de plusieurs perturbations bande étroite en utilisant des filtres Stop-bande et la paramétrisation Youla-Kučera. Cette méthode utilise des Filtres Adaptatifs à Encoche en cascade pour estimer les fréquences de perturbations sinusoïdales puis des Filtres Stop-bande pour introduire des atténuations aux fréquences estimées. Les algorithmes sont vérifiés et validés sur un dispositif expérimental disponible au sein du département Automatique du laboratoire GIPSA-Lab de Grenoble.In this thesis, solutions for the design of robust Active Vibration Control (AVC) systems are presented. The thesis report is composed of two parts. In the first one, feedforward adaptive methods are developed. They are dedicated to the suppression of large band disturbances and use a measurement, correlated with the disturbance, obtained upstream from the performance variable by the use of a second transducer. The algorithms presented in this thesis are designed to achieve good performances and to maintain system stability in the presence of the internal feedback coupling which appears between the control signal and the image of the disturbance. The main contributions in this part are the relaxation of the Strictly Positive Real (SPR) condition appearing in the stability analysis of the algorithms by use of Integral + Proportional adaptation algorithms and the development of feedforward compensators for noise or vibration reduction based on the Youla-Kučera parameterization. The second part of this thesis is concerned with the negative feedback rejection of narrow band disturbances. An indirect adaptation method for the rejection of multiple narrow band disturbances using Band-Stop Filters (BSF) and the Youla-Kučera parameterization is presented. This method uses cascaded Adaptive Notch Filters (ANF) to estimate the frequencies of the disturbances' sinusoids and then, Band-stop Filters are used to shape the output sensitivity function independently, reducing the effect of each narrow band signal in the disturbance.     Modified Direct Adaptive Regulation Scheme Applied to a Benchmark Problem

    International audienceA direct adaptive regulation scheme using a FIR Youla-Kučera Filter has been proposed for solving the EJC Benchmark [4] for rejection of multiple unknown and time-varying narrow-band disturbances. Despite the excellent results this approach requires a careful design of the central controller in terms of selection of some of the assigned closed-loop poles. A modified scheme is proposed in this paper which will incorporate a particular adaptive IIR Youla-Kučera Filter. Called ρ-notch structure (the denominator is a projection inside the unit circle) of the model of the disturbance which has roots on the unit circle. The adaptive scheme estimates separately the numerator and denominator parameters of the IIR Youla-Kučera Filter. Stability and convergence proofs are given along with simulation and real-time results. Comparison with results already obtained for the EJC Benchmark are provided. The use of this approach drastically simplify the design of the central controller and provide even better results than [4] with the advantage to use a single central controller independently of the number of narrow band disturbances

    Robust hybrid estimation and rejection of multi-frequency signals

    We consider the problem of output regulation for LTI systems in the presence of unknown exosystems. The knowledge about the multi-frequency signals exosystem consists in the maximum number of frequencies and their maximal value. The control scheme relies on two main components: an estimation algorithm, to reconstruct the signal generated by the exosystem, and a controller, to enforce the output regulation property to the closed-loop system. To tackle the first task, we propose a hybrid observer for the estimation of the (possibly piece-wise continuous) number and values of the frequencies contained in the exogenous signal. The hybrid observer is particularly appealing for numerical implementations, and it is combined with a self-tuning algorithm of the free parameters (gains), thus improving its performance even in case of noisy measurements. Semi-global exponential convergence of the estimation error is provided. As far as the second task is concerned, a robust hybrid regulator is designed for practical rejection of the multi-frequency disturbance signal acting on the plant. The result is achieved by exploiting the frequencies estimated by the hybrid observer. The effectiveness of the proposed control scheme is shown by means of numerical simulations

    Commande Robuste et Contraintes d'Optimisation

    This thesis presents an overview of my research activities carried out since my PhD in 2001. In the first section, description of the projects, my different contributions to robust control applied to the spatial field and underwater robotics, are highlighted. My research project for the coming years is then presented; I propose an original and efficient methodology to compute simple control laws by combining \textit{robust control} and \textit{global optimization}. The second part of this thesis is dedicated to the scientific aspects that will help clarify the proposed research project. As a starting point, Youla parametrization is presented as a tool to \textit{render convex} the control problem, and the subsequent work is used as a foundation to establish specifications based on the constraints related to optimization. This theme has served as a driving thread in illustrating how industrial requirements could lead to a control problem. Parallel to this, the question also arose as to the practical realization of results from these methodologies, that is, how they might be implemented in an embedded system. Ariane 5 launcher control is taken as an example for research on the structured control and validation.Ce mémoire présente un panorama des activités de recherche menées depuis ma thèse de doctorat en 2001. Dans une première partie, à travers la description des projets, sont mises en avant les différentes contributions à la commande robuste appliquée au monde spatial et au monde de la robotique sous-marine. On montre alors comment s'est construit le projet de recherche proposé pour les années à venir. Il s'agit de proposer une méthodologie originale et efficace pour régler des lois de commande simple à implémenter en combinant \textit{commande robuste} et \textit{optimisation globale}. La seconde partie de ce mémoire est consacrée à quelques aspects scientifiques qui aident à comprendre le projet de recherche proposé. On y trouve comme point de départ la paramétrisation de Youla en tant qu'outil pour \textit{convexifier} le problème de commande et les travaux qui en ont découlés pour traduire un cahier des charges en terme de contrainte dans un problème d'optimisation. Cette thématique a été un fil conducteur important pour faire le lien avec la demande industrielle de savoir comment les exigences étaient traduites dans le problème de commande. En parallèle, s'est posée la question de la réalisation pratique des résultats issues de ces méthodologies, c'est-à-dire leur implémentation sur un système embarqué. On prendra comme exemple les activités de recherche sur la structuration de correcteur et leur qualification pour les lois de pilotage des lanceurs Ariane 5
