    Práce seznamuje s metodami návrhu pro zvýšení výtěžnosti a omezení chyb ve shodných strukturách. Systematické a náhodné chyby jsou shledány zdrojem neshod mezi strukturami. Je představen model náhodných chyb za využití log-normálové hustoty pravděpodobnosti. Pomocí nové metodologie založené na celočíselném pogramování (celočíselné optimalizaci) je navržena optimalizace parametrické výtěžnosti integrovaných obvodů. Je představen algoritmus generování optimální topologie. Topologie je demonstrována na R-2R D/A převodníku a výsledky jsou porovnány s jivým řešením.Recent research in yield enhancement techniques and mitigation of device mismatch is presented. Systematic and random mismatch is studied and identified as the cause of device mismatch. Model based on log-normal PDF is introduced. Optimization of IC parameter yield is suggested and conducted with help of a new methodology based on mathematical programming. An algorithm for the impact based area allocation of critical matched devices is shown as well as algorithms for common centroid layout of different sized devices. Newly developed algorithms are presented on binary weighted R-2R DAC as it is a common IC and comparison to other solutions is given

    Data compression techniques applied to high resolution high frame rate video technology

    An investigation is presented of video data compression applied to microgravity space experiments using High Resolution High Frame Rate Video Technology (HHVT). An extensive survey of methods of video data compression, described in the open literature, was conducted. The survey examines compression methods employing digital computing. The results of the survey are presented. They include a description of each method and assessment of image degradation and video data parameters. An assessment is made of present and near term future technology for implementation of video data compression in high speed imaging system. Results of the assessment are discussed and summarized. The results of a study of a baseline HHVT video system, and approaches for implementation of video data compression, are presented. Case studies of three microgravity experiments are presented and specific compression techniques and implementations are recommended

    Leveraging Signal Transfer Characteristics and Parasitics of Spintronic Circuits for Area and Energy-Optimized Hybrid Digital and Analog Arithmetic

    While Internet of Things (IoT) sensors offer numerous benefits in diverse applications, they are limited by stringent constraints in energy, processing area and memory. These constraints are especially challenging within applications such as Compressive Sensing (CS) and Machine Learning (ML) via Deep Neural Networks (DNNs), which require dot product computations on large data sets. A solution to these challenges has been offered by the development of crossbar array architectures, enabled by recent advances in spintronic devices such as Magnetic Tunnel Junctions (MTJs). Crossbar arrays offer a compact, low-energy and in-memory approach to dot product computation in the analog domain by leveraging intrinsic signal-transfer characteristics of the embedded MTJ devices. The first phase of this dissertation research seeks to build on these benefits by optimizing resource allocation within spintronic crossbar arrays. A hardware approach to non-uniform CS is developed, which dynamically configures sampling rates by deriving necessary control signals using circuit parasitics. Next, an alternate approach to non-uniform CS based on adaptive quantization is developed, which reduces circuit area in addition to energy consumption. Adaptive quantization is then applied to DNNs by developing an architecture allowing for layer-wise quantization based on relative robustness levels. The second phase of this research focuses on extension of the analog computation paradigm by development of an operational amplifier-based arithmetic unit for generalized scalar operations. This approach allows for 95% area reduction in scalar multiplications, compared to the state-of-the-art digital alternative. Moreover, analog computation of enhanced activation functions allows for significant improvement in DNN accuracy, which can be harnessed through triple modular redundancy to yield 81.2% reduction in power at the cost of only 4% accuracy loss, compared to a larger network. Together these results substantiate promising approaches to several challenges facing the design of future IoT sensors within the targeted applications of CS and ML

    Design and development of auxiliary components for a new two-stroke, stratified-charge, lean-burn gasoline engine

    A unique stepped-piston engine was developed by a group of research engineers at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), from 2003 to 2005. The development work undertaken by them engulfs design, prototyping and evaluation over a predetermined period of time which was iterative and challenging in nature. The main objective of the program is to demonstrate local R&D capabilities on small engine work that is able to produce mobile powerhouse of comparable output, having low-fuel consumption and acceptable emission than its crankcase counterpart of similar displacement. A two-stroke engine work was selected as it posses a number of technological challenges, increase in its thermal efficiency, which upon successful undertakings will be useful in assisting the group in future powertrain undertakings in UTM. In its carbureted version, the single-cylinder aircooled engine incorporates a three-port transfer system and a dedicated crankcase breather. These features will enable the prototype to have high induction efficiency and to behave very much a two-stroke engine but equipped with a four-stroke crankcase lubrication system. After a series of analytical work the engine was subjected to a series of laboratory trials. It was also tested on a small watercraft platform with promising indication of its flexibility of use as a prime mover in mobile platform. In an effort to further enhance its technology features, the researchers have also embarked on the development of an add-on auxiliary system. The system comprises of an engine control unit (ECU), a directinjector unit, a dedicated lubricant dispenser unit and an embedded common rail fuel unit. This support system was incorporated onto the engine to demonstrate the finer points of environmental-friendly and fuel economy features. The outcome of this complete package is described in the report, covering the methodology and the final characteristics of the mobile power plant
