Study on the use of metadata for digital learning objects in university institutional repositories (MODERI)
Metadata is a core issue for the creation of repositories. Different institutional repositories have chosen and use different metadata models, elements and values for describing the range of digital objects they store. Thus, this paper analyzes the current use of metadata describing those Learning Objects that some open higher educational institutions' repositories include in their collections. The goal of this work is to identify and analyze the different metadata models being used to describe educational features of those specific digital educational objects (such as audience, type of educational object, learning objectives, etc.). Also discussed is the concept and typology of Learning Objects (LO) through their use in University Repositories. We will also examine the usefulness of specifically describing those learning objects, setting them apart from other kind of documents included in the repository, mainly scholarly publications and research results of the Higher Education institution.En prens
Digital libraries with open access in science and research area and identification and metadata description of their objects
Thesis is devoted to the analysis of open accessible digital libraries in science and research and, at practical level, thesis puts Czech national metadata sets prepared within research and ETD digital libraries development in the Czech Republic. The second chapter presents terminology issues in digital libraries area and general models of digital libraries - "Kahn-Wilensky" architecture and Reference Model Open Archival Information System (OAIS) with special regard to institutional repositories. The third chapter contains the survey of development and current state of open access to information in science and research and its main resources including initiatives of its support. The fourth chapter presents selected systems of open access electronic archives or digital libraries in science and research. Included are selected systems and services in computer science, economics, library and information science, social science, the specific British system of internet resources Intute, digital libraries with citation services and ETDs digital libraries. Druhá kapitola pĹ™edstavuje problematiku terminologie v oblasti digitálnĂch knihoven a obecnĂ© modely (rámce) pro jejich budovánĂ, konkrĂ©tnÄ› klasickĂ˝ model "Kahn-Wilensky" a referenÄŤnĂ model OtevĹ™enĂ©ho archivnĂho informaÄŤnĂho systĂ©mu OAIS se zaměřenĂm na oblast institucionálnĂch repozitářů. TĹ™etĂ kapitola zahrnuje otázky vĂ˝voje a souÄŤasnĂ©ho stavu otevĹ™enĂ©ho pĹ™Ăstupu (angl. "open access") k informacĂm v oblasti vÄ›dy a vĂ˝zkumu, jeho hlavnĂch zdrojĹŻ vÄŤetnÄ› iniciativ na jeho podporu. ÄŚtvrtá, rozsáhlá kapitola pĹ™edstavuje vybranĂ© systĂ©my volnÄ› dostupnĂ˝ch elektronickĂ˝ch archivĹŻ nebo digitálnĂch knihoven ve vÄ›dÄ› a vĂ˝zkumu. Zahrnuty jsou vybranĂ© systĂ©my a sluĹľby z oboru poÄŤĂtaÄŤová vÄ›da, ekonomika, oboru informaÄŤnĂ a knihovnĂ vÄ›da, sociálnĂch vÄ›d, specifickĂ˝ britskĂ˝ systĂ©m pro vÄ›du a vĂ˝zkum (Intute), digitálnĂ knihovny s citaÄŤnĂmi sluĹľbami a digitálnĂ knihovny VĹ KP.
