The present situation shows that the parking infrastructure in residential areas of Vilnius does not satisfy the existing level of motorization. Every evening people come home from work and end up parking cars on lawns, cycle and pedestrian paths, playgrounds, fire accesses and etc. In Lithuania, this problem emerged with the growing number of cars. There have been attempts to address parking shortage issues 20–30 years ago by building metal above-ground garages and underground car parks; but such solutions focused on existing burning needs alone. As a result, the current parking situation in residential areas is chaotic. This problem stems from the ineffectiveness of responsible institutions, which maintain the status quo. Consequently – as no car parking development projects are planned and implemented as well as no required statistical data is collected regarding conditions of car parking and etc. – people are forced to look for a solution by themselves, thus end up parking on lawns or playgrounds. This article aims to apply multi-criteria solutions (Multiple Criteria Decision Making – MCDM), which would allow indicating the worst passenger car parking conditions in residential areas from the social, economic and environmental points of view. Besides, it pursues identifying and substantiating the choice of territories that require the development of car parking solutions

Capstone Project submitted to the Department of Engineering, Ashesi University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the award of Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering, May 2020Finding a vacant parking spot is important to individuals to save time which can be spent on other things. The increase in the number of cars in the country has led to a difficulty in locating vacant parking spots and the increase in importance of car parking lot and structure management. To make it easier for drivers to locate vacant parking spots within structures or parking lots, some of the most common technologies were explored and applied to come up with a solution to this growing problem. This project provides a solution to this problem using sensors for car detection and displaying the status of the parking slots to the driver.Ashesi Universit

The bicycle, despite being rarely used in countries like Portugal, is an example of active mobility, being environmentally friendly and beneficial to the health of the citizen. In this sense, it is of the public interest to convey to citizens the message about the importance of cycling and how it can become a more environmentally friendly type of public transport. Currently, the Internet and smartphones are increasingly inserted in human life. Therefore, the implementation of an online platform (website and mobile application) is crucial to encourage the use of the bicycle. The project that this dissertation focuses on has to do with a Booking and Payments Platform associated with a Bike Sharing program. In general, the objective of this work is the creation of an online platform that allows the user to buy a pass through the PayPal payment method, in order to receive a quick response code (QR Code) that will serve to unlock the desired bicycle. This project is divided into two parts: a physical component related to the equipment used and integrated in the bicycle, and a virtual component that provides the citizen with its user interface. It was sought to adopt an interactive and innovative solution that seeks to simplify tasks. Regarding the physical component, a smart lock was used and it only unlocks the bicycle after the display of a valid QR Code. In the continuation of this matter, a microcontroller was used, which through its camera reads the QR Codes. In addition, a lateral distance sensor was implemented, which communicates with the microcontroller, creating the possibilty to alert the cyclist about possible danger situations. To make the connection between the physical component and the virtual component, a GPS+GSM/GPRS module was used that communicates with the server through TCP/IP connections, using a SIM card. GPS is used to collect bicycle coordinates and provides real-time locations. The virtual component of this dissertation is characterized by a remote server with programming languages like PHP, HTML, CSS and JavaScript. The data collected and sent by the mobile component is stored in a MySQL database, through an Apache server. Given this digital connection of everyday physical objects to the Internet, the system is based on an IoT environment.Mestrado em Engenharia Mecânic

Wireless mobile-based shopping mall car parking system (WMCPS)

The existing car parking system in Malaysia usually required the car drivers to search an empty parking space in the car park without providing detail direction toward the available parking space. As the result, drivers may waste a lot of time and unnecessary energy while they turn around in the car park without direction and may cause car traffic congestion in parking space. This paper investigates the problems of car parking system in Malaysia and finally proposed a Wireless Mobile-based Car Parking System using low cost SMS service. The implementation of SMS service into the car parking system enable drivers to receive information regarding the availability of car parking spaces. In this system, the drivers can resend SMS to request for new assignment of car parking spaces if they fail to get the previous assigned destination. This paper demonstrates the design and implementation of Wireless Mobile-based Car Parking System (WMCPS) using SMS services by Breadth First Search (BFS) algorithm in finding the nearest parking space for drivers. The stimulation results reveal the intelligence of this system can efficiently allocate and utilize the car parking spaces inside the car park
