Challenges of Internet of Things and Big Data Integration
The Internet of Things anticipates the conjunction of physical gadgets to the
In-ternet and their access to wireless sensor data which makes it expedient to
restrain the physical world. Big Data convergence has put multifarious new
opportunities ahead of business ventures to get into a new market or enhance
their operations in the current market. considering the existing techniques and
technologies, it is probably safe to say that the best solution is to use big
data tools to provide an analytical solution to the Internet of Things. Based
on the current technology deployment and adoption trends, it is envisioned that
the Internet of Things is the technology of the future, while to-day's
real-world devices can provide real and valuable analytics, and people in the
real world use many IoT devices. Despite all the advertisements that companies
offer in connection with the Internet of Things, you as a liable consumer, have
the right to be suspicious about IoT advertise-ments. The primary question is:
What is the promise of the Internet of things con-cerning reality and what are
the prospects for the future.Comment: Proceedings of the International Conference on International

Shopping For Privacy: How Technology in Brick-and-Mortar Retail Stores Poses Privacy Risks for Shoppers
As technology continues to rapidly advance, the American legal system has failed to protect individual shoppers from the technology implemented into retail stores, which poses significant privacy risks but does not violate the law. In particular, I examine the technologies implemented into many brick-and-mortar stores today, many of which the average everyday shopper has no idea exists. This Article criticizes these technologies, suggesting that many, if not all of them, are questionable in their legality taking advantage of their status in a legal gray zone. Because the American judicial system cannot adequately protect the individual shopper from these questionable privacy practices, I call upon the Federal Trade Commission, the de facto privacy regulator in the United States, to increase its policing of physical retail stores to protect the shopper from any further harm
An Integrated Framework for Sensing Radio Frequency Spectrum Attacks on Medical Delivery Drones
Drone susceptibility to jamming or spoofing attacks of GPS, RF, Wi-Fi, and
operator signals presents a danger to future medical delivery systems. A
detection framework capable of sensing attacks on drones could provide the
capability for active responses. The identification of interference attacks has
applicability in medical delivery, disaster zone relief, and FAA enforcement
against illegal jamming activities. A gap exists in the literature for solo or
swarm-based drones to identify radio frequency spectrum attacks. Any
non-delivery specific function, such as attack sensing, added to a drone
involves a weight increase and additional complexity; therefore, the value must
exceed the disadvantages. Medical delivery, high-value cargo, and disaster zone
applications could present a value proposition which overcomes the additional
costs. The paper examines types of attacks against drones and describes a
framework for designing an attack detection system with active response
capabilities for improving the reliability of delivery and other medical
applications.Comment: 7 pages, 1 figures, 5 table
Internet of robotic things : converging sensing/actuating, hypoconnectivity, artificial intelligence and IoT Platforms
The Internet of Things (IoT) concept is evolving rapidly and influencing newdevelopments in various application domains, such as the Internet of MobileThings (IoMT), Autonomous Internet of Things (A-IoT), Autonomous Systemof Things (ASoT), Internet of Autonomous Things (IoAT), Internetof Things Clouds (IoT-C) and the Internet of Robotic Things (IoRT) etc.that are progressing/advancing by using IoT technology. The IoT influencerepresents new development and deployment challenges in different areassuch as seamless platform integration, context based cognitive network integration, new mobile sensor/actuator network paradigms, things identification(addressing, naming in IoT) and dynamic things discoverability and manyothers. The IoRT represents new convergence challenges and their need to be addressed, in one side the programmability and the communication ofmultiple heterogeneous mobile/autonomous/robotic things for cooperating, their coordination, configuration, exchange of information, security, safetyand protection. Developments in IoT heterogeneous parallel processing/communication and dynamic systems based on parallelism and concurrencyrequire new ideas for integrating the intelligent “devices”, collaborativerobots (COBOTS), into IoT applications. Dynamic maintainability, selfhealing,self-repair of resources, changing resource state, (re-) configurationand context based IoT systems for service implementation and integrationwith IoT network service composition are of paramount importance whennew “cognitive devices” are becoming active participants in IoT applications. This chapter aims to be an overview of the IoRT concept, technologies, architectures and applications and to provide a comprehensive coverage offuture challenges, developments and applications

Towards evaluation design for smart city development
Smart city developments integrate digital, human, and physical systems in the built environment. With growing urbanization and widespread developments, identifying suitable evaluation methodologies is important. Case-study research across five UK cities - Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, Milton Keynes and Peterborough - revealed that city evaluation approaches were principally project-focused with city-level evaluation plans at early stages. Key challenges centred on selecting suitable evaluation methodologies to evidence urban value and outcomes, addressing city authority requirements. Recommendations for evaluation design draw on urban studies and measurement frameworks, capitalizing on big data opportunities and developing appropriate, valid, credible integrative approaches across projects, programmes and city-level developments
A (digital) finger on the pulse
Complex Event Processing (CEP) is a computer-based technique used to track, analyse and process data in real-time (as an event happens). It establishes correlations between streams of information and matches to defined behaviour
