LATTE: Application Oriented Social Network Embedding
In recent years, many research works propose to embed the network structured
data into a low-dimensional feature space, where each node is represented as a
feature vector. However, due to the detachment of embedding process with
external tasks, the learned embedding results by most existing embedding models
can be ineffective for application tasks with specific objectives, e.g.,
community detection or information diffusion. In this paper, we propose study
the application oriented heterogeneous social network embedding problem.
Significantly different from the existing works, besides the network structure
preservation, the problem should also incorporate the objectives of external
applications in the objective function. To resolve the problem, in this paper,
we propose a novel network embedding framework, namely the "appLicAtion
orienTed neTwork Embedding" (Latte) model. In Latte, the heterogeneous network
structure can be applied to compute the node "diffusive proximity" scores,
which capture both local and global network structures. Based on these computed
scores, Latte learns the network representation feature vectors by extending
the autoencoder model model to the heterogeneous network scenario, which can
also effectively unite the objectives of network embedding and external
application tasks. Extensive experiments have been done on real-world
heterogeneous social network datasets, and the experimental results have
demonstrated the outstanding performance of Latte in learning the
representation vectors for specific application tasks.Comment: 11 Pages, 12 Figures, 1 Tabl
FLICK: developing and running application-specific network services
Data centre networks are increasingly programmable, with application-specific network services proliferating, from custom load-balancers to middleboxes providing caching and aggregation. Developers must currently implement these services using traditional low-level APIs, which neither support natural operations on application data nor provide efficient performance isolation. We describe FLICK, a framework for the programming and execution of application-specific network services on multi-core CPUs. Developers write network services in the FLICK language, which offers high-level processing constructs and application-relevant data types. FLICK programs are translated automatically to efficient, parallel task graphs, implemented in C++ on top of a user-space TCP stack. Task graphs have bounded resource usage at runtime, which means that the graphs of multiple services can execute concurrently without interference using cooperative scheduling. We evaluate FLICK with several services (an HTTP load-balancer, a Memcached router and a Hadoop data aggregator), showing that it achieves good performance while reducing development effort
Improving energy efficiency in wireless sensor networks through scheduling and routing
This paper is about the wireless sensor network in environmental monitoring
applications. A Wireless Sensor Network consists of many sensor nodes and a
base station. The number and type of sensor nodes and the design protocols for
any wireless sensor network is application specific. The sensor data in this
application may be light intensity, temperature, pressure, humidity and their
variations .Clustering and routing are the two areas which are given more
attention in this paper.Comment: 7 Pages, 2 Figures and 1 Tabl
FPGA-based enhanced probabilistic convergent weightless network for human iris recognition
This paper investigates how human identification and identity verification can be performed by the application of an FPGA based weightless neural network, entitled the Enhanced Probabilistic Convergent Neural Network (EPCN), to the iris biometric modality. The human iris is processed for feature vectors which will be employed for formation of connectivity, during learning and subsequent recognition. The pre-processing of the iris, prior to EPCN training, is very minimal. Structural modifications were also made to the Random Access Memory (RAM) based neural network which enhances its robustness when applied in real-time

Survey of unified approaches to integrated-service networks
The increasing demand for communication services, coupled with recent technological advances in communication media and switching techniques, has resulted in a proliferation of new and expanded services. Currently, networks are needed which can transmit voice, data, and video services in an application-independent fashion. Unified approaches employ a single switching technique across the entire network bandwidth, thus, allowing services to be switched in an application-independent manner. This paper presents a taxonomy of integrated-service networks including a look at N-ISDN, while focusing on unified approaches to integrated-service networks. The two most promising unified approaches are burst and fast packet switching. Burst switching is a circuit switching-based approach which allocates channel bandwidth to a connection only during the transmission of "bursts" of information. Fast packet switching is a packet switching-based approach which can be characterized by very high transmission rates on network links and simple, hardwired protocols which match the rapid channel speed of the network. Both approaches are being proposed as possible implementations for integrated-service networks. We survey these two approaches, and also examine the key performance issues found in fast packet switching. We then present the results of a simulation study of a fast packet switching network
