School democratization in prefigurative form: two Brazilian experiences
Recent moves towards greater pupil participation in school decision-making have in part been based on instrumental rationales, such as increases in test scores and improvements in behaviour. This article assesses a different approach - that of the 'prefigurative' - through which the school embodies the democratic society it aims to create.Two examples of prefigurative initiatives in Brazil are assessed: The Landless Movement, a social movement for agrarian reform that runs a large network of schools in its rural communities, and the Plural School, a framework of social inclusion in the municipal education system of Belo Horizonte. Qualitative case studies of the two showed significant enhancement of the democratic culture of the schools and changes in the teacher-student relationship. However, a number of problematic issues were also raised, including the difficulties in extending participation to the whole student body, and the tensions with teachers when students began to exert greater influence in school. The origin of the spacetime metric: Bell's `Lorentzian pedagogy' and its significance in general relativity
The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the `Lorentzian pedagogy' defended
by J.S. Bell in his essay ``How to teach special relativity'', and to explore
its consistency with Einstein's thinking from 1905 to 1952. Some remarks are
also made in this context on Weyl's philosophy of relativity and his 1918 gauge
theory. Finally, it is argued that the Lorentzian pedagogy - which stresses the
important connection between kinematics and dynamics - clarifies the role of

lim+, delta+, and Non-Permutability of beta-Steps
Using a human-oriented formal example proof of the (lim+) theorem, i.e. that
the sum of limits is the limit of the sum, which is of value for reference on
its own, we exhibit a non-permutability of beta-steps and delta+-steps
(according to Smullyan's classification), which is not visible with
non-liberalized delta-rules and not serious with further liberalized
delta-rules, such as the delta++-rule. Besides a careful presentation of the
search for a proof of (lim+) with several pedagogical intentions, the main
subject is to explain why the order of beta-steps plays such a practically

Aspects of Inner-Korean relations examined from a German viewpoint
This paper series takes a look at several aspects of inner-Korean relations, primarily in the area of international relations and economic cooperation, from a German viewpoint. In fact, the complexity of the respective subjects touched in this frame would require a deeper and more comprehensive analysis than developed here. The underlying idea is to stimulate further thought in several areas of pre- and post unification aspects by deriving inspiration from Germany's historical experience. The pre-unification phase and, specifically, the post-unification experience in Germany are of value to both Koreas.
