Min-Max Predictive Control of a Five-Phase Induction Machine

    Get PDF
In this paper, a fuzzy-logic based operator is used instead of a traditional cost function for the predictive stator current control of a five-phase induction machine (IM). The min-max operator is explored for the first time as an alternative to the traditional loss function. With this proposal, the selection of voltage vectors does not need weighting factors that are normally used within the loss function and require a cumbersome procedure to tune. In order to cope with conflicting criteria, the proposal uses a decision function that compares predicted errors in the torque producing subspace and in the x-y subspace. Simulations and experimental results are provided, showing how the proposal compares with the traditional method of fixed tuning for predictive stator current control.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad DPI 2016-76493-C3-1-R y 2014/425Unión Europea DPI 2016-76493-C3-1-R y 2014/425Universidad de Sevilla DPI 2016-76493-C3-1-R y 2014/42

CBR and MBR techniques: review for an application in the emergencies domain

    Get PDF
The purpose of this document is to provide an in-depth analysis of current reasoning engine practice and the integration strategies of Case Based Reasoning and Model Based Reasoning that will be used in the design and development of the RIMSAT system. RIMSAT (Remote Intelligent Management Support and Training) is a European Commission funded project designed to: a.. Provide an innovative, 'intelligent', knowledge based solution aimed at improving the quality of critical decisions b.. Enhance the competencies and responsiveness of individuals and organisations involved in highly complex, safety critical incidents - irrespective of their location. In other words, RIMSAT aims to design and implement a decision support system that using Case Base Reasoning as well as Model Base Reasoning technology is applied in the management of emergency situations. This document is part of a deliverable for RIMSAT project, and although it has been done in close contact with the requirements of the project, it provides an overview wide enough for providing a state of the art in integration strategies between CBR and MBR technologies.Postprint (published version

On the role of pre and post-processing in environmental data mining

The quality of discovered knowledge is highly depending on data quality. Unfortunately real data use to contain noise, uncertainty, errors, redundancies or even irrelevant information. The more complex is the reality to be analyzed, the higher the risk of getting low quality data. Knowledge Discovery from Databases (KDD) offers a global framework to prepare data in the right form to perform correct analyses. On the other hand, the quality of decisions taken upon KDD results, depend not only on the quality of the results themselves, but on the capacity of the system to communicate those results in an understandable form. Environmental systems are particularly complex and environmental users particularly require clarity in their results. In this paper some details about how this can be achieved are provided. The role of the pre and post processing in the whole process of Knowledge Discovery in environmental systems is discussed

    Weighted Constraints in Fuzzy Optimization

    Get PDF
Many practical optimization problems are characterized by someflexibility in the problem constraints, where this flexibility canbe exploited for additional trade-off between improving theobjective function and satisfying the constraints. Especially indecision making, this type of flexibility could lead to workablesolutions, where the goals and the constraints specified bydifferent parties involved in the decision making are traded offagainst one another and satisfied to various degrees. Fuzzy setshave proven to be a suitable representation for modeling this typeof soft constraints. Conventionally, the fuzzy optimizationproblem in such a setting is defined as the simultaneoussatisfaction of the constraints and the goals. No additionaldistinction is assumed to exist amongst the constraints and thegoals. This report proposes an extension of this model forsatisfying the problem constraints and the goals, where preferencefor different constraints and goals can be specified by thedecision-maker. The difference in the preference for theconstraints is represented by a set of associated weight factors, which influence the nature of trade-off between improving theoptimization objectives and satisfying various constraints.Simultaneous weighted satisfaction of various criteria is modeledby using the recently proposed weighted extensions of(Archimedean) fuzzy t-norms. The weighted satisfaction of theproblem constraints and goals are demonstrated by using a simplefuzzy linear programming problem. The framework, however, is moregeneral, and it can also be applied to fuzzy mathematicalprogramming problems and multi-objective fuzzy optimization.wiskundige programmering;fuzzy sets;optimalisatie

The predictive functional control and the management of constraints in GUANAY II autonomous underwater vehicle actuators

Autonomous underwater vehicle control has been a topic of research in the last decades. The challenges addressed vary depending on each research group's interests. In this paper, we focus on the predictive functional control (PFC), which is a control strategy that is easy to understand, install, tune, and optimize. PFC is being developed and applied in industrial applications, such as distillation, reactors, and furnaces. This paper presents the rst application of the PFC in autonomous underwater vehicles, as well as the simulation results of PFC, fuzzy, and gain scheduling controllers. Through simulations and navigation tests at sea, which successfully validate the performance of PFC strategy in motion control of autonomous underwater vehicles, PFC performance is compared with other control techniques such as fuzzy and gain scheduling control. The experimental tests presented here offer effective results concerning control objectives in high and intermediate levels of control. In high-level point, stabilization and path following scenarios are proven. In the intermediate levels, the results show that position and speed behaviors are improved using the PFC controller, which offers the smoothest behavior. The simulation depicting predictive functional control was the most effective regarding constraints management and control rate change in the Guanay II underwater vehicle actuator. The industry has not embraced the development of control theories for industrial systems because of the high investment in experts required to implement each technique successfully. However, this paper on the functional predictive control strategy evidences its easy implementation in several applications, making it a viable option for the industry given the short time needed to learn, implement, and operate, decreasing impact on the business and increasing immediacy.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

Supervisory-plus-regulatory control design for efficient operation of industrial furnaces

    Get PDF
A two-level system engineering design approach to integrated control and supervision of industrial multi-zone furnaces has been elaborated and tested. The application case study is the three-zone 25 MW RZS furnace plant at Skopje Steelworks. The integrated control and supervision design is based on combined use of general predictive control optimization of set-points and steady-state decoupling,at the upper level, and classical two-term laws with stady-state decouling, at the executive control level. This design technique exploits the intrinsic stability of thermal processes and makes use of constrained optimization, standard non-parametric time-domain process models, identified under operating conditions, using truncated k-time sequence matrices, controlled autoregressive moving average models. Digital implementations are sought within standard computer process control platform for practical engineering and maintenance reasons
