Virtual 3D Support Contents Oriented to Interactive Self-Learning

    Get PDF
In the educational project described in this paper, new virtual 3D didactical contents have been developed to achieve specific outcomes, within the frame of a new methodology oriented to objectives of the European Higher Education Area directives. The motivation of the project was to serve as a new assessment method, to create a link between new programs of study with the older ones. In this project, new rubrics have been developed to be employed as an objective method of evaluation of specific and transversal outcomes, to accomplish the certification criteria of institutions like ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology)

Developing an Online Library for Faster Retrieval of Mold Base and Standard Parts of Injection Molding

    Get PDF
This paper focuses on developing a system to transfer mold base plates and standard parts faster during the stage of injection mold design. This system not only provides a way to compare the file version, but also it utilizes Siemens NX 10 to isolate the updated information into a single executable file (.dll), and then, the file can be transferred without the need of transferring the whole file. By this way, the system can help the user to download only necessary mold base plates and standard parts, and those parts downloaded are only the updated portions

In this project, our objective was to thoroughly investigate the feasibility of automating a process at Ficocables by integrating a robotic arm. Specifically, we focused on automating the joining of two separate processes while eliminating the need for manual intervention in the second operation. The equipment involved in the process includes a Roboco Zamak injection machine and a Babyplast polymer injection machine. With well-defined project requirements, we explored various solutions and sought guidance from Fluidotronica, a renowned expert in this domain. With their support, we identified the collaborative robot JAKA Zu 3s, equipped with a long-finger gripper, as the optimal solution for our needs. To assess the financial viability, we conducted a meticulous financial analysis using methods like NPV and payback period, both of which demonstrated promising results. Although the implementation of the robotic arm is still pending, the outcomes of our study highlight its remarkable versatility for future applications within Ficocables. This project exemplifies the potential advantages of automation and offers valuable insights for forthcoming initiatives in this field.

This paper describes knowledge-based oriented, parametric, modular, and feature-based integrated CAD/CAE system for mould design. The proposed system integrates Pro/E system with developed original module for calculation of parameters of injection moulding and mould design calculation and selection. The system interface uses parametric and CAD/CAE feature-based database to make the process of design, editing, and reviewing smoother. An example is provided to demonstrate our approach in rule-based representation. Also presented the lists of KBE techniques used for building the knowledge-based system and especially production rules reasoning

    Promoting Innovation in Albania

This project, based in Tirana, Albania, aims to promote innovation through the creation of a makerspace community, a space where people with creative ideas for new products can find the tools to develop them. A makerspace provides its members with resources such as prototyping tools, and a collaborative working atmosphere. This is much needed in Albania, since we found that students there often mention a lack of hands-on experience in their education. We worked with our local sponsor, Protik ICT Resource Center, to establish the makerspace and to plan future projects. We developed recommendations based on our work mentoring students in the Young Innovators Club and participating in Startup Weekend Tirana

    Reference Architecture for Collaborative Design

    Get PDF
Issues and themes of Collaborative Design (CD) addressed by research done so far are so extensive that when running a project of collaborative design, people may lack directions or guidelines to support the whole picture. Hence, developing reference architecture for CD is important and necessary in the academic and the empirical fields. Reference architecture provides the systematic, elementary skeleton and can be extended and adapted to diverse, changing environments. It also provides a comprehensive framework and enables practices implemented more thoroughly and easily. The reference architecture developed in this re-search is formed along three dimensions: decision aspect, design stage, and collaboration scope. There are five elements in the dimension of decision aspect: (1) participant, (2) product, (3) process, (4) organization, and (5) information. The dimension of design stage includes three stages: (1) planning and concepting, (2) system-level design and detail design, and (3) testing and prototyping. The dimension of collaboration scope includes three types of collaboration: (1) cross-functional, (2) cross-company, and (3) cross-industry. Because of the three reference dimensions, a cubic architecture is developed. The cubic reference architecture helps decision-makers in dealing with implementing a CD project or activity. It also serves as a guideline for CD system developers or people involved in the design collaboration to figure out their own responsibility functions and their relations with other members. Demonstration of how to use the reference architecture in developing design collaboration activities and specifying the details for cross-company CD is also provided in this research
