Personalized Recommendation of Web Pages Using Group Average Agglomerative Hierarchical Clustering (GAAHC)
Entrepreneurs are investing heavily on marketing and promoting business through the websites to enhance their online reputation and draw the attention of the web users. Website structure plays the vital role in attracting the web users. Creating personalized website structure for individual user by restructuring the web site structure is a tedious and endless job. If the users do not find the required information easily in the websites, then users abandon such websites. Hence, personalized recommendation of web pages to the web users increases the user’s interest and the time they spend in the website. Personalization is the process of creating customized participation of users to a website, rather than providing a broad participation. Personalization allows the website to present the users with the unique participation bespoke to their demands and passion. Personalized recommendation is a challenging task, which has drawn the focus of many researchers. Personalization has to trace the behavior of individual users. Usage behavior can be traced by observing the individual navigation patterns using web log file of the specific website. This method requires session identification, clustering sessions into similar clusters and building a model for personalized recommendations using access time length and frequency of access. Most of the existing works on this topic have used K-Means clustering with Euclidean distance. K-Means suffers from choosing the initial random center and sequence of page visits is not considered. Web Site Personalization based on Link Analysis and Navigational Patterns
The continuous growth in the size and use of the World Wide Web imposes new methods of design and development of on-line information services. The need for predicting the users’ needs in order to improve the usability and user retention of a web site is more than evident and can be addressed by personalizing it. Recommendation algorithms aim at proposing “next” pages to users based on their current visit and the past users’ navigational patterns. In the vast majority of related algorithms, however, only the usage data are used to produce recommendations, disregarding the structural properties of the web graph. Thus important – in terms of PageRank authority score – pages may be underrated. In this work we present UPR, a PageRank-style algorithm which combines usage data and link analysis techniques for assigning probabilities to the web pages based on their importance in the web site’s navigational graph. We propose the application of a localized version of UPR (l-UPR) to personalized navigational sub-graphs for online web page ranking and recommendation. Moreover, we propose a hybrid probabilistic predictive model based on Markov models and link analysis for assigning prior probabilities in a hybrid probabilistic model. We prove, through experimentation, that this approach results in more objective and representative predictions than the ones produced from the pure usage-based approaches
Discovering the Impact of Knowledge in Recommender Systems: A Comparative Study
Recommender systems engage user profiles and appropriate filtering techniques
to assist users in finding more relevant information over the large volume of
information. User profiles play an important role in the success of
recommendation process since they model and represent the actual user needs.
However, a comprehensive literature review of recommender systems has
demonstrated no concrete study on the role and impact of knowledge in user
profiling and filtering approache. In this paper, we review the most prominent
recommender systems in the literature and examine the impression of knowledge
extracted from different sources. We then come up with this finding that
semantic information from the user context has substantial impact on the
performance of knowledge based recommender systems. Finally, some new clues for

The Partial Evaluation Approach to Information Personalization
Information personalization refers to the automatic adjustment of information
content, structure, and presentation tailored to an individual user. By
reducing information overload and customizing information access,
personalization systems have emerged as an important segment of the Internet
economy. This paper presents a systematic modeling methodology - PIPE
(`Personalization is Partial Evaluation') - for personalization.
Personalization systems are designed and implemented in PIPE by modeling an
information-seeking interaction in a programmatic representation. The
representation supports the description of information-seeking activities as
partial information and their subsequent realization by partial evaluation, a
technique for specializing programs. We describe the modeling methodology at a
conceptual level and outline representational choices. We present two
application case studies that use PIPE for personalizing web sites and describe
how PIPE suggests a novel evaluation criterion for information system designs.

A Hybrid Web Recommendation System based on the Improved Association Rule Mining Algorithm
As the growing interest of web recommendation systems those are applied to
deliver customized data for their users, we started working on this system.
Generally the recommendation systems are divided into two major categories such
as collaborative recommendation system and content based recommendation system.
In case of collaborative recommen-dation systems, these try to seek out users
who share same tastes that of given user as well as recommends the websites
according to the liking given user. Whereas the content based recommendation
systems tries to recommend web sites similar to those web sites the user has
liked. In the recent research we found that the efficient technique based on
asso-ciation rule mining algorithm is proposed in order to solve the problem of
web page recommendation. Major problem of the same is that the web pages are
given equal importance. Here the importance of pages changes according to the
fre-quency of visiting the web page as well as amount of time user spends on
that page. Also recommendation of newly added web pages or the pages those are
not yet visited by users are not included in the recommendation set. To
over-come this problem, we have used the web usage log in the adaptive
association rule based web mining where the asso-ciation rules were applied to
personalization. This algorithm was purely based on the Apriori data mining
algorithm in order to generate the association rules. However this method also
suffers from some unavoidable drawbacks. In this paper we are presenting and
investigating the new approach based on weighted Association Rule Mining
Algorithm and text mining. This is improved algorithm which adds semantic
knowledge to the results, has more efficiency and hence gives better quality

SemWeB Semantic Web Browser – Improving Browsing Experience with Semantic and Personalized Information and Hyperlinks
Imagine a Web browser that can understand the context of a Web page and recommends related semantic hyperlinks in any Web domain. In addition, imagine this browser also understands your browsing needs and personalizes information for you. The aim of our research is to achieve this in open Web environment using Semantic Web technologies and adaptive hypermedia techniques. In this paper, we discuss a novel Semantic Web browser, SemWeB, which utilizes linked data for context-based hyperlink recommendation and uses a behavior-based and an ontology-driven user modeling architecture for personalization on Web documents.
