An Architectural Framework for Collaboration of Heterogeneous Communication Devices Using WAP and Mobile Device Augmented(MDA)Gateway Integration

    Get PDF
Within the last couple of years, the challenge of displaying collaborative multimedia information has become very important with the large diversity of communication devices such as Personal Computers, laptops, notebooks and handheld devices. The shared data and information may be presented with different views depending on the communication device used by a particular collaborator. The use of various web tools (HTML, WML etc) offers some solutions to the problem but if the target application requires more complex features such as rich multimedia data than is manageable using HTML or WML format, something else need to be done. In this paper, we propose a framework that integrates WAP and MDA Gateway to support collaboration among virtual teams and nomadic workers using heterogeneous communication devices. We then discuss an approach for augmenting mobile device small screen capabilities with surrounding large screen display device

A case study of MMO2's Madic: A framework for creating mobile internet systems

Mobile Internet applications on ubiquitous mobile networks allows real-time, anywhere, anytime connectivity to services. Due to its scalability and potential cost savings, mobile communication is being increasingly applied in the business and consumer communities to create innovative data and voice application, which run over the Internet infrastructure. This paper reports on a case study at an organisation that created an innovative approach to developing mobile applications developed by third party independent developers. A conceptual wireless reference model is presented that was used to define the various system components required to create effective mobile applications

Implementing Operations Support Systems in E-Health Based Systems

    Get PDF
Information and communication technologies have been introduced in different dimensions of the health care. e-Health is the use of advanced communications technologies such as the Internet, portable, wireless and other sophisticated devices to support health care delivery and education. It has the potentials of improving the efficiency of health care delivery globally. With the increasing demand for information at the point of care, health care providers could explore the advances provided by mobile technologies and the increasing capabilities, compactness and pervasiveness of computing devices to adopt operations supports systems (OSS) in e-Health based systems in order to provide efficient services and enhance their performances. In this paper, we present, the development and implementation of operations supports in e- Health based systems. The system promises to deliver greater productivity for health care practitioner

Modes of governance of new service development for mobile networks. A life cycle perspective

    Get PDF
This paper focuses on governance modes for service development ofmobile telephone networks (GSM, WAP, GPRS, UMTS). 'Services' refer toservices embodying a specific content. The paper shows that the phaseof the life cycle of the network and the service affects the choice ofgovernance mode of new service development projects. Governance modesinclude internal development by the telecom operator, several forms ofcollaboration between telecom operator and service firm, and onlyproviding a network by the telecom operator to the service firm, whichthen develops and provides its services (external). In this paper amodel is developed for the governance mode of service development indifferent phases of the life cycles of the mobile network and service, based on the degrees of uncertainty and urgency involved in thenetwork and service development processes. Four cases are presented ofservice development projects for mobile telecom networks. These casesindicate that the number of redesigns and the level of communicationcosts in collaboration projects indeed depend on the degree of urgencyand uncertainty involved in these projects, which are in turn affectedby the life cycle of the network and service.portfolio selection;technology adoption;mobile networks;collaboration for service development;product and service life cycles

Wireless Handheld Computers in the Preclinical Undergraduate Curriculum

    Get PDF
This report presents the results of a pilot project using wireless PDAs as teaching tools in an undergraduate medical curriculum. This technology was used to foster a transition from a passive to an interactive learning environment in the classroom and provided a solution for the implementation of computer-based exams for a large class. Wayne State Medical School recently provided model e570 Toshiba PocketPCs® (personal digital assistants or PDAs), network interface cards, and application software developed by CampusMobility® to 20 sophomore medical students. The pilot group of preclinical students used the PDAs to access web-based course content, for communication, scheduling, to participate in interactive teaching sessions, and to complete course evaluations. Another part of this pilot has been to utilize the PDAs for computer-based exams in a wireless environment. Server authentication that restricted access during the exams and a proctoring console to monitor and record the PDA screens will be described in this report. Results of a student satisfaction survey will be present

The Internet has brought about the concept of grobalilation, which has revolutionized the way business is transacted all over the world. The E-comnterce is of particular interest, though widely used but still has some security challenges in terms of transparency and confidentiality of transactiorts. This papei focuses on M-contnrcrce as an extensiott to E-commerce hnplementatiott with the Bankiltg industry proposed as core implementation consideration in ortler to guarantee high level security. We have reviewed some cqses of onlilrc frauds and eliscussed tlte emerging critical issues afficting software development of M-cornmerce applicatiotts. Afranrcworkfor M-commerce implementationis therefore, proposed for countries such as Nigeria, Romania and Indonesia where cases of online scam are alanning

    E-Voting Solution for Romanian Parliament

    Get PDF
Every year hundreds of millions of people vote in a variety of settings in many countries around the world. People vote in public elections to choose government leaders and also in private elections to determine the course of action for groups that people are organized in such as non-governmental organizations, unions, associations and corporations (shareholders). Voting is a widely spread, rather democratic, way of making decisions. More and more governments and private organizations realize that the use of new technologies such as the Internet can have beneficial impacts on elections - i.e. higher voter turnout and lower costs of conducting elections. The rules governing elections tend to be highly specialized to meet the specific needs of each type of organization. Most elections, however, require integrity, privacy and authentication.e-voting, elections, democracy, ngo, unions, government

A cooperative cellular and broadcast conditional access system for Pay-TV systems

Permission from IEEE must be obtained for all other users, including reprinting/ republishing this material for advertising or promotional purposes, creating new collective works for resale or redistribution to servers or lists, or reuse of any copyrighted components of this work in other works. The lack of interoperability between Pay-TV service providers and a horizontally integrated business transaction model have compromised the competition in the Pay-TV market. In addition, the lack of interactivity with customers has resulted in high churn rate and improper security measures have contributed into considerable business loss. These issues are the main cause of high operational costs and subscription fees in the Pay-TV systems. As a result, this paper presents the Mobile Conditional Access System (MICAS) as an end-to-end access control solution for Pay-TV systems. It incorporates the mobile and broadcasting systems and provides a platform whereby service providers can effectively interact with their customers, personalize their services and adopt appropriate security measurements. This would result in the decrease of operating expenses and increase of customers' satisfaction in the system. The paper provides an overview of state-of-the-art conditional access solutions followed by detailed description of design, reference model implementation and analysis of possible MICAS security architectures.Strategy & Technology (S&T) Lt
