Privacy Issues of the W3C Geolocation API
The W3C's Geolocation API may rapidly standardize the transmission of
location information on the Web, but, in dealing with such sensitive
information, it also raises serious privacy concerns. We analyze the manner and
extent to which the current W3C Geolocation API provides mechanisms to support
privacy. We propose a privacy framework for the consideration of location
information and use it to evaluate the W3C Geolocation API, both the
specification and its use in the wild, and recommend some modifications to the
API as a result of our analysis
A W3C szabvĂĄnyosĂtĂĄsi törekvĂ©sei

IVOA Provenance data model: hints from the CTA Provenance prototype
We present the last developments on the IVOA Provenance data model, mainly
based on the W3C PROV concept. In the context of the Cherenkov astronomy, the
data processing stages imply both assumptions and comparison to dedicated
simulations. As a consequence, Provenance information is crucial to the end
user in order to interpret the high level data products. The Cherenkov
Telescope Array (CTA), currently in preparation, is thus a perfect test case
for the development of an IVOA standard on Provenance information. We describe
general use-cases for the computational Provenance in the CTA production
pipeline and explore the proposed W3C notations like PROV-N formats, as well as
Provenance access solutions.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, to appear in ADASS XXV proceedings, edited by N.

Accessible Website Content Guidelines for Users with Intellectual Disabilities
Background: The W3C Web Accessibility Initiative has issued guidelines for making websites better and easier to access for people with various disabilities (W3C Web Accessibility Initiative guidelines 1999). - \ud
Method: The usability of two versions of a website (a non-adapted site and a site that was adapted on the basis of easy-to-read guidelines) was tested with two groups of 20 participants. One group had intellectual disabilities but could read, the other group had no identified intellectual disabilities. In a 2 Ă 2 experimental design, it was investigated whether the easy-to-read website was indeed better accessible and usable for the participants with intellectual disabilities. - \ud
Results: The adaptation of the website worked well for participants with intellectual disabilities. Users without identified intellectual disabilities were as effective with the adapted site as they were with the non-adapted site. - \ud
Conclusion: The results form an empirical basis for recommendations about applying guidelines for easy-to-read text on websites for people with intellectual disabilities
RĂĄmpĂĄt a honlapokra - Ășton az akadĂĄlymentes honlapok felĂ©
A W3C Magyar Iroda mĂĄr több mint hat Ă©ve azon munkĂĄlkodik, hogy hazĂĄnkban minĂ©l jobban megismertesse az Ă©rdeklĆdĆket a legĂșjabb webes technolĂłgiĂĄkkal, szabvĂĄnyokkal a W3C legfrissebb fejlesztĂ©si eredmĂ©nyeivel. SzerencsĂ©re napjainkban a W3C legismertebb szabvĂĄnyain kĂvĂŒl (HTML, XHTML, CSS, XML) szĂĄmos mĂĄs, korĂĄbban kevĂ©sbĂ© elterjedt szabvĂĄny is egyre szĂ©lesebb körben kezd ismerttĂ© vĂĄlni.
morph-LDP: an R2RML-based Linked Data Platform implementation
The W3C Linked Data Platform (LDP) candidate recom-
mendation defines a standard HTTP-based protocol for read/write Linked
Data. The W3C R2RML recommendation defines a language to map re-
lational databases (RDBs) and RDF. This paper presents morph-LDP,
a novel system that combines these two W3C standardization initiatives
to expose relational data as read/write Linked Data for LDP-aware ap-
plications, whilst allowing legacy applications to continue using their
relational databases
Regulatory Compliance and Web Accessibility of UK Parliament Sites
This research seeks to review whether web accessibility and disability laws lead to strong compliance among UK e-government web sites. This study samples 130 sites of the UK members of Parliament using an online accessibility testing tool and determines if the site design complies with disability laws and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). Awareness is raised about issues disabled users face when attempting to use UK e-government sites. A discussion of UK and international disability law is reviewed in light of web accessibilty: the UKâs Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) of 1995 and the UN Treaty on the Rights of the Disabled. Although these mandates aim to provide equality in access to web sites for people with disabilities, the results of this study show that total openness of these sites is not widespread and the mere existance of laws does not guarantee compliance
