On-board B-ISDN fast packet switching architectures. Phase 1: Study
The broadband integrate services digital network (B-ISDN) is an emerging telecommunications technology that will meet most of the telecommunications networking needs in the mid-1990's to early next century. The satellite-based system is well positioned for providing B-ISDN service with its inherent capabilities of point-to-multipoint and broadcast transmission, virtually unlimited connectivity between any two points within a beam coverage, short deployment time of communications facility, flexible and dynamic reallocation of space segment capacity, and distance insensitive cost. On-board processing satellites, particularly in a multiple spot beam environment, will provide enhanced connectivity, better performance, optimized access and transmission link design, and lower user service cost. The following are described: the user and network aspects of broadband services; the current development status in broadband services; various satellite network architectures including system design issues; and various fast packet switch architectures and their detail designs
This project is a solution to the specified requirements by the primary client, based on
the design and installation of a fiber optic communication between different air
navigation sites in an airport.
Inside an airport there are many sites that have air navigation aids and the
communication is essential between them. The Control Tower is the principal site where
you can control and manage all aircraft operations. Also includes various sites that
support the landing, takeoff and navigation.
A revision of the existing communication technologies will be provided, such as those
based on frequency, time and wavelength division multiplexing. Also the
communications protocols such as SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol),
TCP (Transport Control Protocol), IP (Internet Protocol) and Ethernet.
To solve this project, SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) has been used as the main
technology in this project. Regarding SDH, it can be highlighted improvements in
transmission speed, higher reliability with automatic mechanical failure protection and
highly scalable in the future.
Design and implementation will be carried out in compliance with standard guidelines,
which meet standards of project management, using tools such as the timing diagram,
safety regulations, monitoring reports, etc.
Finally, technical conclusions for the enhancement in future project carried out in
similar conditions, will be obtained.Ingeniería Técnica en Sistemas de Telecomunicació
Internet performance modeling: the state of the art at the turn of the century
Seemingly overnight, the Internet has gone from an academic experiment to a worldwide information matrix. Along the way, computer scientists have come to realize that understanding the performance of the Internet is a remarkably challenging and subtle problem. This challenge is all the more important because of the increasingly significant role the Internet has come to play in society. To take stock of the field of Internet performance modeling, the authors organized a workshop at Schloß Dagstuhl. This paper summarizes the results of discussions, both plenary and in small groups, that took place during the four-day workshop. It identifies successes, points to areas where more work is needed, and poses “Grand Challenges” for the performance evaluation community with respect to the Internet
Campus Communications Systems: Converging Technologies
This book is a rewrite of Campus Telecommunications Systems: Managing Change, a book that was written by ACUTA in 1995. In the past decade, our industry has experienced a thousand-fold increase in data rates as we migrated from 10 megabit links (10 million bits per second) to 10 gigabit links (10 billion bits per second), we have seen the National Telecommunications Policy completely revamped; we have seen the combination of voice, data, and video onto one network; and we have seen many of our service providers merge into larger corporations able to offer more diverse services. When this book was last written, A CUT A meant telecommunications, convergence was a mathematical term, triple play was a baseball term, and terms such as iPod, DoS, and QoS did not exist. This book is designed to be a communications primer to be used by new entrants into the field of communications in higher education and by veteran communications professionals who want additional information in areas other than their field of expertise. There are reference books and text books available on every topic discussed in this book if a more in-depth explanation is desired. Individual chapters were authored by communications professionals from various member campuses. This allowed the authors to share their years of experience (more years than many of us would care to admit to) with the community at large.

Ethernet, Frame Relay e incluso redes móviles.

Data Driven Network Design for Cloud Services Based on Historic Utilization
In recent years we have seen a shift from traditional networking in enterprises with Data Center centric architectures moving to cloud services. Companies are moving away from private networking technologies like MPLS as they migrate their application workloads to the cloud. With these migrations, network architects must struggle with how to design and build new network infrastructure to support the cloud for all their end users including office workers, remote workers, and home office workers. The main goal for network design is to maximize availability and performance and minimize cost. However, network architects and network engineers tend to over provision networks by sizing the bandwidth for worst case scenarios wasting millions of dollars per year. This thesis will analyze traditional network utilization data from twenty-five of the Fortune 500 companies in the United States and determine the most efficient bandwidth to support cloud services from providers like Amazon, Microsoft, Google, and others. The analysis of real-world data and the resulting proposed scaling factor is an original contribution from this study
The thesis to provide a tool for monitoring, configuration or reconfiguration of VLANs through software. The tool has several modules, such as: SNMP GET, SNMP SET, SNMP GETNEXT, MONITOR, SNMP VIEWER and NETSTATISTICS. The porpuse was made a tool free, because each vendor has developed its own proprietary VLAN product. The parts of the tool, modules, work in local and remote environments. Tha tool use the TCP/IP and UDP protocols for analizing traffic statistics of the network. There is a protocol called SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol), the protocol is used to manage, monitor and configurate nodes in local or remote form. The protocol use the ports 160 and 161 to communicate information about nodes confgurations. For analizing the network the tool capture frames and dispaly information about network performance, the tool provide filtering, security and traffic flow management, for example: a) Capture frames about a particular node. b) Capture frames about a particular network. c) Capture frames with a particular evaluation criteria. d) Whatever criteria. The tool can enhance modular scalability, security, and network management without problem. The modular architecture permit to increase modules for security, for example a firewall or SSH protocol, so, the information from nodes will be protected. Therefore, the tool is flexible due to simplify task when additions, moves or changes to the architecture are necessary. Additional Information is given in the structure of the thesis which is divided in several chapters
