    A framework to maximise the communicative power of knowledge visualisations

    Knowledge visualisation, in the field of information systems, is both a process and a product, informed by the closely aligned fields of information visualisation and knowledg management. Knowledge visualisation has untapped potential within the purview of knowledge communication. Even so, knowledge visualisations are infrequently deployed due to a lack of evidence-based guidance. To improve this situation, we carried out a systematic literature review to derive a number of “lenses” that can be used to reveal the essential perspectives to feed into the visualisation production process.We propose a conceptual framework which incorporates these lenses to guide producers of knowledge visualisations. This framework uses the different lenses to reveal critical perspectives that need to be considered during the design process. We conclude by demonstrating how this framework could be used to produce an effective knowledge visualisation

It also addresses challenges related to data integration, technology infrastructure, and ethical considerations. Through real-world case studies and examples, this conceptual review provides insights into successful implementations of information visualization in collection management. The paper concludes by emphasizing the potential of information visualization techniques to transform collection management practices in libraries, enhancing the accessibility, relevance, and impact of library resources

    The Evidence Hub: harnessing the collective intelligence of communities to build evidence-based knowledge

    Conventional document and discussion websites provide users with no help in assessing the quality or quantity of evidence behind any given idea. Besides, the very meaning of what evidence is may not be unequivocally defined within a community, and may require deep understanding, common ground and debate. An Evidence Hub is a tool to pool the community collective intelligence on what is evidence for an idea. It provides an infrastructure for debating and building evidence-based knowledge and practice. An Evidence Hub is best thought of as a filter onto other websites — a map that distills the most important issues, ideas and evidence from the noise by making clear why ideas and web resources may be worth further investigation. This paper describes the Evidence Hub concept and rationale, the breath of user engagement and the evolution of specific features, derived from our work with different community groups in the healthcare and educational sector

    Cheetah Experimental Platform Web 1.0: Cleaning Pupillary Data

    Recently, researchers started using cognitive load in various settings, e.g., educational psychology, cognitive load theory, or human-computer interaction. Cognitive load characterizes a tasks' demand on the limited information processing capacity of the brain. The widespread adoption of eye-tracking devices led to increased attention for objectively measuring cognitive load via pupil dilation. However, this approach requires a standardized data processing routine to reliably measure cognitive load. This technical report presents CEP-Web, an open source platform to providing state of the art data processing routines for cleaning pupillary data combined with a graphical user interface, enabling the management of studies and subjects. Future developments will include the support for analyzing the cleaned data as well as support for Task-Evoked Pupillary Response (TEPR) studies

    A Comparison of Intercultural Student Communities in Online Social Networks

    Abstract This work is geared to analyze informal learning processes in student conferences. In particular, it compares social network interactions occurring in conference-related Facebook pages - i. e. Taiwan-America Student Conference (TASC), Japan-America Student Conference (JASC) and Korea-America Student Conference (KASC) pages - within a period starting 30 days before and finishing 30 days after the application deadlines. This empirical study has been realized by adopting open source visualization tools and techniques freely available on the software market in order to perform Social Network Analysis (SNA) in a transparent and reproducible way. Such an analysis provides interesting information on interaction dynamics, emerging hot topics and sub-group formation of attending students
