Augmenting citation chain aggregation with article maps
Presentation slides available at: https://www.gesis.org/fileadmin/upload/kmir2014/paper4_slides.pdfThis paper presents Voyster, an experimental system that combines citation chain aggregation (CCA) and spatial-semantic maps to support citation search. CCA uses a three-list view to represent the citation network surrounding a โpearlโ of known relevant articles, whereby cited and citing articles are ranked according to number of pearl relations. As the pearl grows, this overlap score provides an effective proxy for relevance. However, when the pearl is small or multi-faceted overlap ranking provides poor discrimination. To address this problem we augment the lists with a visual map, wherein articles are organized according to their content similarity. We demonstrate how the article map can help the user to make relevant choices during the early stages of the search pro-cess and also provide useful insights into the thematic structure of the local citation network
International conference on software engineering and knowledge engineering: Session chair
The Thirtieth International Conference on Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering (SEKE 2018) will be held at the Hotel Pullman, San Francisco Bay, USA, from July 1 to July 3, 2018. SEKE2018 will also be dedicated in memory of Professor Lofti Zadeh, a great scholar, pioneer and leader in fuzzy sets theory and soft computing.
The conference aims at bringing together experts in software engineering and knowledge engineering to discuss on relevant results in either software engineering or knowledge engineering or both. Special emphasis will be put on the transference of methods between both domains. The theme this year is soft computing in software engineering & knowledge engineering. Submission of papers and demos are both welcome
Parametric Surfaces for Augmented Architecture representation
Augmented Reality (AR) represents a growing communication channel, responding to the need to expand reality with additional information, offering easy and engaging access to digital data. AR for architectural representation allows a simple interaction with 3D models, facilitating spatial understanding of complex volumes and topological relationships between parts, overcoming some limitations related to Virtual Reality. In the last decade different developments in the pipeline process have seen a significant advancement in technological and algorithmic aspects, paying less attention to 3D modeling generation. For this, the article explores the construction of basic geometries for 3D modelโs generation, highlighting the relationship between geometry and topology, basic for a consistent normal distribution. Moreover, a critical evaluation about corrective paths of existing 3D models is presented, analysing a complex architectural case study, the virtual model of Villa del Verginese, an emblematic example for topological emerged problems. The final aim of the paper is to refocus attention on 3D model construction, suggesting some "good practices" useful for preventing, minimizing or correcting topological problems, extending the accessibility of AR to people engaged in architectural representation
The scholarly impact of TRECVid (2003-2009)
This paper reports on an investigation into the scholarly impact of the TRECVid (TREC Video Retrieval Evaluation) benchmarking conferences between 2003 and 2009. The contribution of TRECVid to research in video retrieval is assessed by analyzing publication content to show the development of techniques and approaches over time and by analyzing publication impact through publication numbers and citation analysis. Popular conference and journal venues for TRECVid publications are identified in terms of number of citations received. For a selection of participants at different career stages, the relative importance of TRECVid publications in terms of citations vis a vis their other publications is investigated. TRECVid, as an evaluation conference, provides data on which research teams โscoredโ highly against the evaluation criteria and the relationship between โtop scoringโ teams at TRECVid and the โtop scoringโ papers in terms of citations is analysed. A strong relationship was found between โsuccessโ at TRECVid and โsuccessโ at citations both for high scoring and low scoring teams. The implications of the study in terms of the value of TRECVid as a research activity, and the value of bibliometric analysis as a research evaluation tool, are discussed
Structured Review of Code Clone Literature
This report presents the results of a structured review of code clone literature. The aim of the review is to assemble a conceptual model of clone-related concepts which helps us to reason about clones. This conceptual model unifies clone concepts from a wide range of literature, so that findings about clones can be compared with each other
