    Frame Relay (FR) represents an important paradigm shift in modern telecommunication. This technology is beginning to evolve from data only application to broad spectrum of multimedia users and potential to provide end users with cost effective transport of voice traffic for intra office communication. In this project the recent development in voice communication over Frame relay is investigated. Simulations were carried out using OPNET, a powerful simulation software. Following the simulation model, a practical design of the LAN-to-LAN connectivity experiment was also done in the Net Lab. From the results of the simulation, Performance measures such as delay, jitter, and throughput are reported. It is evident from the results that real-time voice or video across a frame relay network can provide acceptable performance

    The quality of service (QoS) concept, which appeared initially as a necessity to improve Internet users perception, deals actually with new valences along with information society maturation. At the organisation’s level, the Intranet network shall assure in a similar manner as the Internet all kinds of services, which are useful to the organisation’s users. Starting from the traditional QoS architectural models, network administrators shall plan and design a QoS architecture, which will map on the organisation’s requirements, having at disposal not only own network elements but also communication services provided by other operators.     Should QoS routing algorithms prefer shortest paths?

    Multimedia traffic and real-time e-commerce applications can experience quality degradation in traditional networks such as the Internet. These difficulties can be overcome in networks which feature dynamically set up paths with bandwidth and delay guarantees. The problem of selecting such constrained paths is the task of quality of service (QoS) routing. This paper considers link-state routing, and the choice of cost metric used to implement QoS routing. There are two schools of thought regarding the choice of link cost. It is commonly assumed that QoS routing algorithms should limit hop count so as to conserve resources for future connections. Others advocate load balancing mechanisms so as to increase overall network utilisation. This paper investigates which of these approaches gives the better performance. We show that there is no one general answer to this question. We also point out the dangers of drawing general conclusions about routing algorithm performance based on the study of only a limited set of network topologies
