Metamodel Instance Generation: A systematic literature review
Modelling and thus metamodelling have become increasingly important in
Software Engineering through the use of Model Driven Engineering. In this paper
we present a systematic literature review of instance generation techniques for
metamodels, i.e. the process of automatically generating models from a given
metamodel. We start by presenting a set of research questions that our review
is intended to answer. We then identify the main topics that are related to
metamodel instance generation techniques, and use these to initiate our
literature search. This search resulted in the identification of 34 key papers
in the area, and each of these is reviewed here and discussed in detail. The
outcome is that we are able to identify a knowledge gap in this field, and we
offer suggestions as to some potential directions for future research.Comment: 25 page
A Vernacular for Coherent Logic
We propose a simple, yet expressive proof representation from which proofs
for different proof assistants can easily be generated. The representation uses
only a few inference rules and is based on a frag- ment of first-order logic
called coherent logic. Coherent logic has been recognized by a number of
researchers as a suitable logic for many ev- eryday mathematical developments.
The proposed proof representation is accompanied by a corresponding XML format
and by a suite of XSL transformations for generating formal proofs for
Isabelle/Isar and Coq, as well as proofs expressed in a natural language form
(formatted in LATEX or in HTML). Also, our automated theorem prover for
coherent logic exports proofs in the proposed XML format. All tools are

XML Security in Certificate Management - XML Certificator
The trend of rapid growing use of XML format in data/document management system reveals that security measures should be urgently considered into next generation's data/document systems. This paper presents a new certificate management system developed on the basis of XML security mechanisms. The system is supported by the theories of XML security as well as Object oriented technology and database. Finally it has been successfully implemented in using C&#, SQL, XML signature and XML encryption. An implementation metrics is evidently presented
Identification of Design Principles
This report identifies those design principles for a (possibly new) query and transformation
language for the Web supporting inference that are considered essential. Based upon these
design principles an initial strawman is selected. Scenarios for querying the Semantic Web
illustrate the design principles and their reflection in the initial strawman, i.e., a first draft of
the query language to be designed and implemented by the REWERSE working group I4
Global Numerical Constraints on Trees
We introduce a logical foundation to reason on tree structures with
constraints on the number of node occurrences. Related formalisms are limited
to express occurrence constraints on particular tree regions, as for instance
the children of a given node. By contrast, the logic introduced in the present
work can concisely express numerical bounds on any region, descendants or
ancestors for instance. We prove that the logic is decidable in single
exponential time even if the numerical constraints are in binary form. We also
illustrate the usage of the logic in the description of numerical constraints
on multi-directional path queries on XML documents. Furthermore, numerical
restrictions on regular languages (XML schemas) can also be concisely described
by the logic. This implies a characterization of decidable counting extensions
of XPath queries and XML schemas. Moreover, as the logic is closed under
negation, it can thus be used as an optimal reasoning framework for testing
emptiness, containment and equivalence
Issues about the Adoption of Formal Methods for Dependable Composition of Web Services
Web Services provide interoperable mechanisms for describing, locating and
invoking services over the Internet; composition further enables to build
complex services out of simpler ones for complex B2B applications. While
current studies on these topics are mostly focused - from the technical
viewpoint - on standards and protocols, this paper investigates the adoption of
formal methods, especially for composition. We logically classify and analyze
three different (but interconnected) kinds of important issues towards this
goal, namely foundations, verification and extensions. The aim of this work is
to individuate the proper questions on the adoption of formal methods for
dependable composition of Web Services, not necessarily to find the optimal
answers. Nevertheless, we still try to propose some tentative answers based on
our proposal for a composition calculus, which we hope can animate a proper
discussion

Capturing and Shaping Shifting Requirements using XML and XSLT: A Field Study
This paper explores Extensible Mark-up Language (XML) and Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformations (XSLT) for authoring, presenting and managing system requirements. A field study is presented that explores the influence of XML schema and XSLT rendering and modeling templates on stakeholder communications. The study is of an e-commerce project where an evolving business model and changing partnerships forced the requirements team to continually adapt XML and XSLT tools to capture requirements. Coding procedures categorized resulting repositories of XML documents, XML schema, XSLT templates, stakeholder interviews, field notes, e-mails, and business documents. Qualitative techniques are applied to derive a model summarizing the influence of XML schema, and XSLT rendering and modeling templates. Implications for researchers and practitioners are discussed, including how XML tools support stakeholders by customizing presentations, assisting negotiations and enhancing traceability
