The purpose of this study was to investigate usability of online library systems in Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). This study evaluated the usability of Sultanah Bahiyah Library’s web based systems by investigating the aspects of simplicity, comfort, user friendliness, control, readability, information adequacy/task match, navigability, recognition, access time, relevancy, consistency and visual presentation. This study examined user’s views about the usability of digital libraries whereas current and perceived importance. A sample of 45 students of Master of Business Administration (MBA) has been chosen. The Sultanah Bahiyah Library’s web based systems is very important especially for students and academic staffs of Universiti Utara Malaysia. The usability of the Library’s web based systems makes students easy to connect and for that the website should be helpful and attractive within good contents. The result found that the parallel nature of the users’ current views about the usability of digital libraries and users’ perceived importance of digital library usability allows direct comparison of all usability properties. The overall results yielded significant difference for the variables of user’s current views and perceived importance

The Influence of Product Aesthetics and Usability over the Course of Time: A Longitudinal Field Experiment

    Get PDF
A longitudinal field experiment was carried out over a period of two weeks to examine the influence of product aesthetics and inherent product usability. A 2 x 2 x 3 mixed design was used in the study, with product aesthetics (high / low) and usability (high / low) being manipulated as between-subjects variables and exposure time as a repeated-measures variable (3 levels). A sample of 60 mobile phone users was tested during a multiple-session usability test. A range of outcome variables was measured, including performance, perceived usability, perceived aesthetics, and emotion. A major finding was that the positive effect of an aesthetically appealing product on perceived usability, reported in many previous studies, began to wane with increasing exposure time. The data provided similar evidence for emotion, which also showed changes as a function of exposure time. The study has methodological implications for the future design of usability tests, notably suggesting the need for longitudinal approaches in usability research

Analisis Kualitas Layanan Pada Website Perguruan Tinggi Yang Ideal Menurut Webqual 4.0 (Studi Kasus: Unika Musi Charitas, Universitas Tridinanti, Universitas Terbuka)

This research looks at the level of user satisfaction with the university's website services. The method used in this study is Webqual 4.0. Usability, Information Quality, and Interaction Quality variables as independent variables, while User Satisfaction as the dependent variable. The sample in this study were 96 students from each Unika Musi Charitas College, 86 respondents from Tridinanti University, and 100 respondents from the Open University to determine the number of samples using the Slovin formula with a Simple Random Sampling technique. The results showed that variables that did not partially affect User Satisfaction were usability variables in Unika Musi Charitas and Open University, while at Tridinanti University were Information Quality and Variable Usability, Information Quality, and Interaction Quality variables together influencing User Satisfaction the three Universities. The websites of the three Universities do not fulfill all WebQual 4.0 indicators when viewed based on user satisfaction perceptions so that the university website is not ideal according to WebQual 4.0. The difference between each website is in the display and placement of information

Social Influence, Usability And Security On The Intensity Of DANA e-Wallet Use

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of social, usability and security on the intensity of DANA e-Wallet use. The data used in this research is primary data by distributing questionnaires openly via google form. The method used in sampling is non-probability sampling with convenience sampling technique with a total sample of 200 student respondents using DANA e-Wallet in Subang Regency. Data analysis using IMB SPSS Statistics 22.                The results of the study the coefficient of determination R2 was 25.9% while the remaining 74.1% was influenced by variables not examined in this study. The results of the partial test (T test) of social influence variables, usability variables, and security variables have a positive effect on the intensity of using DANA e-Wallet. The results of the simultaneous test (F test) show that the social influence, usability, and security simultaneously affect the intensity of using DANA e-Wallet

The development of information and communication technology offers convenience for its users.  The use of information and communication technology also has a positive impact on the business world.  For example, the use of advances in information and communication technology in the transportation sector.  Cizqi Rent A Car is a Turkish company that launched a mobile application for online car rental service providers which is expected to make it easier for tourists or local residents who want to rent a car to travel in Turkey.  By conducting usability analysis with the WEBUSE method, this study aims to determine the usability level of the Cizgi Rent A Car application.  From the results of data analysis it is known that this application is quite famous because it has been downloaded by more than 10,000 downloaders from several countries including Indonesia.  This application is used by Indonesians who make work visits and travel to Turkey.  The usability level in the Content, Organization & Readability variables and the Navigation and Links variables can be said to be Good.  The usability level for the User Interface Design variable can be said to be quite bad.  The usability level for the Performance and Effectiveness variables can be said to be moderate

Finite element analysis of a composite material interface

    Get PDF
A finite element model of a composite material interface is developed to study the influence of the interface on the thermal strain in the composite. A plane stress model is used with an axisymmetric model as a check. The interface thickness, thermal coefficient, modulus, Poisson's ratio and the percent of mineral in the composite are variables in the study. The results confirmed the usability of the finite element model in studying the polymer-mineral interface

    Analysis of Usability Cost-Benefit Models

    Get PDF
There are few development organizations that have fully integrated usability activities as an integral part of their product development projects. One reason for this is that the benefits of better usability are not visible for the management. In this paper, the characteristics of selected published usability cost-benefit models are analyzed. These models have different approaches for identifying, approaching and categorizing the costs and benefits of usability. The analyzed models provide general guidelines for estimating the costs and benefits of usability but in most cases provide only little details. It is proposed that the business type of development organization and the type of the developed product as variables could be taken into account when analyzing the benefits of better usability

Visual aesthetics and user experience: a multiple-session experiment

    Get PDF
The article reports a longitudinal lab experiment, in which the influence of product aesthetics and inherent product usability was examined over a period of 7 weeks. Using a 2 × 2 × 7 mixed design, visual aesthetics (high vs. low) and usability (high vs. low) were manipulated as between-subjects variables whereas exposure time was used as a repeated-measures variable. One hundred and ten participants took part in the study, during which they carried out typical tasks of operating a fully automated coffee machine. We measured user experience by using the following outcome variables: perceived usability, perceived attractiveness, performance, affect, workload and perceived coffee quality (gustatory aesthetics). We found no effect of visual aesthetics on user experience (including perceived usability as the chief outcome variable), which is in contrast to a considerable number of previous studies. The absence of such an effect might be associated with influencing factors that have not yet been given sufficient attention (e.g., user identification with product, sensory dominance, characteristics of specific products)
